Aye Aye Fella's..
I noticed either on someone elses thread or on a website somewhere some details about a new adjustable turbo boost pressure kit.
It obviously attaches to your ECU and then the box is inside the car and you can turn the boost up or down depending on how much whiplash you want.
Has anyone else heard of this style of thing? is it definetly available? is it any good? does it work? are you better off just getting the motor chipped permanently or getting the existing chip remapped?
I am trying to find a minimal invasive measure of increasing power a little, that isn't going to make major changes to the car and invalidate my warranty just yet.
Does anyone know?
Sounds to me like it is a bleed valve inline with the boost pressure sensor,
have you got a link that you can post here so that we can have a look at it?
are these the things we used to see on R5's and RS turbo's a few years back ??
some sort of in line pressure restrictor ??
FORGE motorsport do em , saw one today and forgot to ask
(anyone got an old MAX power :) )

They are like the one's that use to be available for the Renault 5 GT-Turbo yeh..
Adjustable boost pressure gadget.
I saw one on a website for the VAG 1.8T, only I can't remember which site it was on..
I will have a hunt around and see if I can find it.
It may well have been forge actually.. I will check and make sure.
will let you know..
The ecu should adjust the mixture automatically for you, the only concern is what pressure the turbo is designed to cut out at if it detects too much boost pressure,
but i can see that giving you useful additional power subject to the cutout pressure being high enough,
Although you can forget your warranty probably if any garage see this!, cos you have to cut your pipe to the boost regulator and insert the remote bleed valve there for it to work!and that would be very difficult to hide or remove come service time!

Assuming it is a bleed valve we are all talking about then i wouldn't bother as this is the main reson y u c R5 turbo's sitting at the side of the road and giving them there relieable reputation!!
Its very tempting to turn that boost knob that little bit further and further to the point that the engine can't take it and gives up!! Melted pistons anyone?
On R5's the mixture is not requlated like the 20VT lump. They were carbed so this may explain things (ie running to lean) on ours the lambda probe should adjust the mixture automatically so
maybe there is a possibilty??
There are electronic devices out there that do the same thing but the problem is that the ecu will reconise that the engine is over boosting and shut it down giving a nice flat spot. ( I think some of you out there already have this??)
Anyway here is the electronic one http://www.impossible-performance.cwc.net/abdracing.htm
Choose mk4 golf, The enter...Then click on performance parts on the bar on the left and scroll down.
its called the Split Second Boost controller.

Thats the little puppy on that url posted above.. knew I had seen it somewhere..
From your comments I assume that it is a no go and probably worse than getting my chip either remapped or replaced..
Oh well... just thought I would ask..
Cheers anyways fella's..
I have a mate who had an R5 and he melted his engine indeed. Had the thing boosted up so high it would wheel spin in 4th gear when floored. He has an S8 now.. all civilised and sedate.. until he puts his foot on the pedal and the HUGE engine and turbo's start to wind up.. very nice motor, however a little large for my liking.
I thought the Audi S8 had a 4.2 litre V8 340bhp that was normally aspirated......or am I wrong:confused:

Yes you are right! S8's are n/a cars. The new one is twin turbo V8 though! Should be fun
mmmmm..... wonder if one of those could be squeezed into a Leon:D :D :D

It's brand spankers.. dunno if he even has it yet.. all I know is he said he has got a new one.
He had an S4 after his R5 but he is doing the family man thing (he is quite a bit older than me). He said last time I spoke that he had got a new S8... I aint seen it or owt.. so dunno which one it is... ??
I assumed it was the new turbo one..
I have been in the old n/a S8's, and they are scary quick for such a huge car. With turbo's should be very fun to drive.

Yo Guys,
Have a look at http://www.autonetperformance.com/Blitz/
Choose boost controller.

Jabbasport do a proper adjustable boost switch,The knob turns from 7 0 clock (standard boost) to 5 0 clock(full mapped boost)
Very good piece of kit, have one myself. its about £160 fitted
Also APR do a adjustable program so you can switch between chipped boost and standard boost.
The problem with bleed valves and other forms of boost control is that only the boost pressure is increased and not the fueling causing the car to run lean which in turn leads to detonation and melted pistons.
An EPROM chip that increases bothy boost and fueling is the best option IMO
the adjustable boost controller will not work on the 1.8 t engines as the boost is electronically controlled. if fitted it would send daft signals to the ecu which would just shut down the boost controller.
as mentioned above the only way u can do it is to have an electronic controller as i have. however u will need to get a remap so that fuel is correct when boosting higher pressures. best person to speak to is mike at jabbasport, this is where i got mine done and it is superb.
