if the amp gives me either option, is it always better to go for 1 ohms final impedence?

and if i went for a sub which had dual 2 ohms, is the disadvantage that i won't be able to use an amp that only goes down to 2 ohms?

You will get more power from the amp at 1 ohm than 2, so it will really depend on how much power the sub needs.

If you use an amp that will only go down to 2 ohm's but you wire the sub to show 1 ohms then you will be putting to much load on the amp, causing it to over heat and possible die!
