Yes High Intensity Discharge, they're expensive but well worth the 800 euro's....
I'm still confused
What are they exactly ?
Any links ?
HID is more commonly called Xenon (the real ones).
Its called HID because of the way they work. Besides the bulb you got something called a ballast (which controls the bulb ignition and burning). Basically it causes 20kV across the 2 metal plates (inside the bulb). The 20kV causes an arc across the plates.
ok I thought it had something to do with lights ! :D

I've got to ask Zboyd to add a section for quantum physics.;)
Hello.
Could you put here some fotos of your light improvement.
Which one do you choose? How much Kelvin(color temperature)?

Hi and welcome to the forums.
I have the how-to almost ready! Will have pictures as well.
I choose the autolamps kit, cus it seeed to be very good quality wise. I'm using the OE 4300K. The 6000k color is a bit to annoying for me (at least with the free form headlamps used on the Leon/toledo).

does that mean that you have tried both kits then ?
Look forward to seeing the write up.

I had actually picked up the 6000k for a friend's leon a few months after mine. After doing the install we found it to be a tad bit annoying. It does not output more light than the 4300k (actually its output is a bit less), just that the color output hurts your eyes a bit more. Ended up selling the 6000k kit to another friend with a 5-series BMW.
That was one of my doubts, concerning the color temperature. There are a large offer on the net, and i never know which is the nearest to an original that i see in other cars.
I'm thinking about the 5200K kit, more than this i think itīs to blue with less efective light.
These are the links that i prefer:
http://www.misterjung.com/
http://www.autolamps-online.com/home.htm
http://www.xenonvalot.com/
What do you think about them offer?
PRC - I already see your fotos on the link but curiously you don't put any of one of the major improvements that you have on your car, the XENON Lights.!
I would like to see some fotos of this modification.
Itīs a pity, this car donīt offer the xenon light originally like the competition, such as audi A3 or Golf TDI150.
I have another question. Itīs about the auto-leveling system needed to be realy legal?!
Can we adapt other manufacturer like Audi or VW system to this car? Anyone is trying to solve this problem?

was the output measured or a guestimate with them both switched on next to each other ?
I had read that the 6000k was supposed to give a better distance than 4300k & 8000k, maybe it's just the FF cases that make the difference ?
Were they as easy to install as they suggest, and what about the location of the balast, or is tere enough slack to find a suitable place ?
Maybe i should just wait untill the ' how to do it ' guide is finished.
Only kidding....
I spend 4 months researching the possiblilities and came down to 2:
autolamps & hid4less
Why: at that time they offered the best kits. IMO they still do. The link is to Pete's Icecavern site so only the ICE mods are up.
I will eventually work on my own site (time permitting) and have picks of everything.
autoleveling from another car is not possible, because it has a bunch of car specefic sensors. Hella is working on a universal one with 2 sensors on the rear axle.
OEM Philips D2S is 3200lm bright (+/-450lm) and 4300K colortemp.
Philips Ultinon D2S is 2400lm bright (+/-250lm) and 5800K colortemp.
It is pretty easy, since it was the 1st time I went for the overkill approach :D (you still need to remove front bumper though)!
Ok.
When PRC make available his "how to do it" guide i hope to take off all my doubts about this.
Donīt forget to share with us your knowledge.
mmmm 800 euros odd
and bulbs are about Ģ100 to replace ?
is it worth it ?
mind you twin lamp kits used to be Ģ300/400 so i spose so
lol the price of fashion

Well Flapper,
1st off - the HID last an avg of 3000 hrs (about the cars lifetime). Halogen last on avg 100 hrs (IMO the vision+ last a bit less).
Tires your vision alot less! Output is awesome!
There's certainly the chi-chi factor!!
Then again oncoming traffic might be calling you a few names.
:scream: :uzi:
i agree - better light
and to be honest - get that king o the road feeling
just going by the fact that i am seeing full standard systems blow bulbs @ a worrying rate
and @ Ģ130 a bulb too :(
but i'd have one though - they can only get cheaper

WHY

WHY
The bulb itself has two leads which go to balast. You need to drill through the outer plastic cover to get the wires (kit comes with a grommet) through. You can do it in 2 places the underside of the lamp or through the removable back cover. Since I didn't want to have it through the back cover, I removed the headlamps and drilled through the inderside.
Why I didn't want it through back cover:
1- easier back cover removal for main beam and turning signal replacement.
2- on passenger side of car (your driver side) the balast is glued dirrectly onto the cover.
That's all I'm telling otherwise you won't read the write-up:D

It's pretty much finished (saturday at latest). Now I just need to get the digi camera back to take pics and everything will be done.

And to keep within the law you will also be fitting headlamp washers?
(This question assumes that you don't have them already fitted)

Actually No. They'll never be leval anyway 'cus your using a Halogen headlamp and you don't have the auto-levelling.
The washing system costs a bundle, cus you need to change the bumper cover + get the washing system + new washer bottom and an extra pump.
Besides, I don't really believe that the washing system will remove dead flies from the headlamp.
The write-up is already done and available to selected viewers:p
Kidding!
Have taken some pics already, but the USB port died on me last night so I couldn't get them to the PC.
I knew about the washers but I'd obviously misunderstood the levelling aspect. I thought you were OK if you could adjust them from within the cabin electonically. Didn't realise it had to be automatic.
Thanks, I've now learnt something.
I have a question that i think itīs pertinent, about the headlamp washers.
Really, to be legal they have to exist, but letīs look at itīs efficiency. There is no automatic mechanism to make them work!! You have to use them manually from the interior. I donīt know anybody with cars with xenon light, that remembers to use it. My friends had used them only for experience and then they never remember again. For some way they are not much necessary then it seems, except for an inspeccion purpose.
Am i wrong with this thought?
:D Who wants to contribute to a new USB port for "prc"? :D
Curiosity itīs growing up!! :D
Have sent all information and pics (-1 pic I'll send tonight) to (ZBOYD). I'm sure he'll get it up as soon as possible. A couple of things though:
In the comparison shots, you really can't tell that the HID setup gives you an extra 10 meters in depth, plus it's also alot wider than the halogen as well, but I can't stop in the middle of 3-lane highway to get a pic.;)
This will be able on guides section or in other section?
It should go in the guides section of the main page.
Got it all ready to publish, just require the last picture, as soon as i get that, and once i get home from work this evening i will publish it.
It will be in the guides section.

It really depends on what you think your present lighting is like. After installing the HIDs I never ever use the fogs anymore, even in pouring rainstorms.

Mark's working to get the guide up as fast as possible.
Paulo's superb guide is now posted. You can view it by following this link, or the one from the main webpage.

Thanks Paulo.
Yep i'll sort the discount forum tonight so Leo can post up the details of this group buy tomorrow.
Wow, what excellent work Mark. Didn't think I'd make the main page.:D
If anyone has questions or needs help, feel free to e-mail me at:

Yep. If you go through the rear back plate instead of through the bottom you will be able to do it. Be very careful with the glarebox movement though. I can't mention this enough. Good luck.
PS. I might be able to get 2-3 guys buying the kit, will keep you posted.
