A small vid of a 6th gear run....

I am planning on a few good videos for youtube, but need to find the time.

Here is a short one of a little stretch in 6th gear last week on the motorway.

This is just flooring from 6th on a straight.

Remember its a (modded) TDI

180-245km/h ( dunno in Miles... But its fast. )

Ok Gents...

A few more updates...

Had the Electronics redone... ECU Remaped and Turbo Altered.

It now opens at 2000RPM (keep in mind its a much larger turbo - so its a great achievement )

Got my dummy exhaust closed at the back.

The real piping faces down so that the car does not get a black ass after a thrashing...

It was open before and when cars where stopped behind me at night, one could spot the fake rear.

http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/7386/img1003xy8.jpg

Ive left the FK Coilovers aside for a while. Fitted Weitec GT
( Same as KW V1 - But not made in INOX. Just normal steel).

New Ride Height.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9624/img1008zy5.jpg

Ride is slightly more comfortable and a little jumpier on poor roads.

Lifted the front by almost nothing as im getting an aluminum sump guard made.

Had the plastic console painted and the gauge finally functioning.

I might go for a Black console again after i get tired of this grey OEM look.

Also got the function switch (button) inside the ashtray next to the lighter.

007 would love this... Open ashtray - touch a button and read all the loads of info the gauge provides. :) PEAKS, TEMPS, bla bla bla bla

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6331/img0970ld5.jpg

A few teasers of the Recaros.

http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/158/img0989dd7.jpg

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/2649/img0981uo7.jpg

Managed to get the Airbag issues sorted with some dummy plugs and VAG-COM reset.

Now i just need to get them functioning electrically

And finally, this curious little fellow ... decided to jump inside while i was quickly taking the pix last night.

Since he was so brave... I will show him to the world...

MDS
10-10-2007, 20:40
The leds I have in the foglights are merely for show.
They are not really very funcional.
If you use your fogs, I DO NOT recomend them

The ones I have in the park lights are the ones with 6 Heads.
These have a wider angle and spread the light much better within the headlights.

Comparing a normal LED with the 6/1.

I havent had a chance to get it on the rollers yet, here in the Algarve there are no Dynos close by.

I am expecting HP to be in the mid 200´s and about 500 Nm.

This judging from what it was before when I had just a remap.

Hoping to get it done early next year.

Probably due to my lack of knowledge! But cant see how an FMIC that is efficient already and putting a bigger FMIC that will aid cooling but doesnt alter lower the amount of fuel being burnt which causing the smoke? The car got bigger injectors or running on stock injectors still?

Well, I have heard many diferent opinions and seen a few articles.

Some say it will do the trick. Other say nothing will change.

So I have decided to try and see for myself.
I am sure that it must bring some positive result,

I will post up the results once fitted...

I havent opted for upgraded injectors (Race 783) as I do not want more smoke.

Injectors are probably the only things I havent fitted ... for now...

jonjay
20-02-2008, 14:23
I really do hope you hit 250BHP as your car is the dogs bollox however I heard that the standard 150PD injectors max at at 230BHP. Much past that and its melt down

Lets see the results when done :)

How hard is it to fit and wire the S3 leathers? and what you got in the Rear?

Its as easy as making babies...

The rear had a panel covering the rear seats.

In Portugal 150 cars where made as comercial vehicles.

This was an overdue stock selling excercise, as the 1P Leon was on sale already. (The car is registered as a 2006 model)

I purchased the Leon without rear seats, and had a huge discount on the car.

Even though its a 4 door car, and Seat offered the Seats, it is mainly an idiotic tax law.

You will see many 2 seater comercial cars here in Portugal.

They do not cover up the rear windows like in some countries.

Vans here are just norma cars without rear Seats.

The Ibiza is a popular model for that here...

Just pull.

Remember where the OEM stickers start at the top.

Align them well, and stick and peel slowly.

Use a credit card or spatula for tinted windows.

Make suer the doors are nice n clean.

No big deal really. Its a cheap mod and has quite a cool end result.

Just do that in a dust free environment, I did mine outdoors the first time round and got a few bubbles inside.

Good Luck. ;)

I really do hope you hit 250BHP as your car is the dogs bollox however I heard that the standard 150PD injectors max at at 230BHP. Much past that and its melt down

Lets see the results when done :)

Well, if it does not hit 250BHP, I dont want it anymore...

Just with the Nasty Remap and a few other bits i had it at 207BHP.

Now it has the "motherload" and it better go past 230.

However the dyno is supposedly the most honest one around.

All you DYNO freaks have probably heard of them MAHA LPS 3000.

I am getting it Dyno´d on the 5 April... Hopefully.

If it wont hit 250 on the MAHA... its a DUD! :headhurt:

Hey all.

Been a lil absent...

So ill leave a few updates.

Got the car Dyno´d... on the latest MAHA Dyno.

Supposedly the most DEADLY ACURATE rollers around.

Even though I still made the "Most Powerful TDI" of the day, I was not very impressed with the figures. but they where spot on with my moddest expectations

Then we where given an explanation of the new Dyno Norms (no longer measured in DIN, but now in EWG) which supposedly chomp a whole lot of horses when compared to other Dynos.

The high temperatures also played a huge role from what they said.

Other examples of sheer disappointment :

Audi RS4 = 300hp
E46 M3 (Remaped) = 314hp
Volvo T5R (Remapped) = 239hp

Mine cleared 254hp.

All in all ,... i took it as a positive note , this way theres room for "alot" more improvement.

Even though i had it tailored this way, the map is a little shitty according to many.

So next mod is the FMC (Arguable Benefits) and once i get some time, I want to get it remapped once again.

Maybe I will go back to the DYNO to compare charts later.

Got this one from a DEAD LCR in Spain.

Since mine is a TDI, i have a dummy tailpipe.

The real exhaust tip faces down not to dirty the boot with smoke.

The LCR tip is just for show, It has black plates in the back not to show the real downward facing system.

It's illegal to have tints in a country where the sun actually shines for more days than it rains?

I thought Norway didn't make sense, but that doesn't make sense.

Bloody hell though MDS. 254BHP is an amazing figure for a TDI...I am surprised that the stock injectors can handle that much power but there you go. Gives us TDI boys in the UK hope.

Surely you need a diff to cope with all that power, wheel spin must be immense...?

MDS
21-05-2008, 10:19
Firstly the upgraded FMIC has almost double the volume (in capacity)

Secondly it stays directly in front (or behind) the bumper, the OEM one sits behind the radiator and air conditioning system, thus receiving less air.

I will let you fellas know about performance, havent driven the car for a while but I am sure it must make a diference, after all cooler air = more oxygen.

I know it will eat up more of the smoke, which is good.

I have removed them already, rolling on the Sportecs again.

The 17s made the car a little lower... too low.. for the iron lids and potholes and all the rest.

Interestingly they belonged to a user from this forum : HUDDS...

So they came from that side of the pond :D

The car was much faster off the mark and also reached top speed much better with the 17´s.

I didnt really take note of the consumption ..

It fits on the steering boss.

Its not custom made, they are available for Golf 4.

I imported it from the US.

Since I have now upgraded the power again, and will have to take more attention to boost pressures, I will be fitting the gauge there.

The pics dont do much justice, but once fitted it will look very neat.

Great motor, and doing diesel's proud with that power, and maybe even more since by the sounds of it!

I recently changed my turbo, and was looking a custom manifold to bolt on something bigger, however didnt and just opted for the next step up, and am running 230bhp and just over 500nm.

I am however interested in your turbo set up, do you have pictures of the manifold and turbo set up? I have watched a few vids and the smoke seems to be OK, and if you have since taken some of that away with the new FMIC, would be just waht id be after, enough for people to know its a diesel as you go past, a!

I am going for a water IC kit next and hope to push my turbo up to what its good for a max. 260bhp.

I also might be popping down to Spain next year to see my brother, might come over to portugal to say hello

Great work on a awesome car.

Great work on a awesome car.Unfortunately i don’t have many pics of the engine parts and mods...

Most of the stuff on TDI upgrades has to be custom made... unfortunately...

My manifolds are made from aluminum and sort of curved in an 3 like pattern.

My last turbo (Garret 2256) popped a few weeks ago due to an EVIL REMAP. :cartman:

At the moment I am running a larger unit found on the new gen 6 Cyl. Merc. CDI engines. (Garrett 2056).

Its larger than the 2256, and has´nt had the tubines reworked, thus giving me more lag...
At the moment it opens up a little late, but when it kicks in ... all hell breaks loose...
But I may just keep it like this as it allows me to hold back on throttle a little more… not so tempting !!!

Now it has much less smoke, coz the FMIC and Large turbo eat it all up... you will only see the occasional black puff when gears are changed... which is also how I like it…

I dont know what turbo you are running, but 260 is a already a nice figure for a TDI...

That’s more than enough on a TDI , Surely enough to thrash almost any car in its class...

My last controversial Dyno Test kicked out 254bhp/490 Nm, but I am sure its much more powerful with this new setup (Turbo + Remap).

My aim is 270hp... on an accurate Dyno.

I must take some time to make a few vidz shortly....

Please do visit when on this side of the world... you are most welcome... drinks on me…

I visit your side of the pond a few times also... without the Leon of course....

Thanks for the reply's I am only running a PD150 turbo hybrid, so the manifold is all standard. However in time I will look at custom manifolds to bolt on a different turbo. Why did you not choose the 3.0 V6 turbo found on VW's?

Keep it VAG? :D

Mine is running 230bhp at the moment, but on a tame map, they usual run 240bhp+ so im hoping to get a IC spray then re-remap for more power. What sort of RPM's do you have power from and to?

Thanks for the compiments... ;)

Re-Map will do most of the work... but map it after the FMIC is in place...

Initially my remap had power from about 2200 - 4500.

Now at the moment with the new hardware and software it opens up at 3000(for now) and has practically no limit... I can take it to the red ...[B)]

But when giving it stick i change at 5500rpm

Regarding the Turbo, at the time most big turbo´d VAG Diesels where 2.5 - 5 Cyl. which envolved a little more work in modding the manifolds.

The Turbos featured on Mercedes enginesare also known to last alot longer and behave better under stress. ie: dont break so often.

The Turbos on Alfa-Romeo 2.4 JTD angines are also said to be very nice...

Thats interesting indeed for future reference with my plans :) I am interested at your revs. You said you now take it to 5,500rpm, standard limiter is 5,100rpm so I assume you have uppped the limiter? Does it still feel like it has torque/power that high up?

Mine currently comes in just before 2,100rpm, and goes to 4,750rpm id say before the last 300 or so rpms of nothing. If be tempted to up the rpm's at a later date also.

Yes...

I cant say i notice any noise...

Its not that tipical induction noise... I cant hear absolutely nothing...

but then again other noises probably deaden the filter...

I guess performance from this depends on your setup...I guess the BMC alone wont do much... but it is a little quicker off the mark...

And seems to contribute the eating up smoke...
