OK, I'll start this in the right place rather than hijack a Cupra R thread...

On Saturday I'm booked in for a 2.5" cat-back Powerflow system. I'm now wondering if it's worth having a cat replacement pipe as well, so what do you guys think?

Is it going to be worth it?

Is it legal to run an '02 car with no cat (assuming it passes emissions).

Is there any chance of it passing emissions without a cat?

Does it matter, or should I just stick the cat back in when (if) I need to MoT the car and run it without the rest of the time?

Any comments appreciated...

You only have to worry about it in 2005!

Just leave it out. Most MOT stations will pop it back in for your MOT when you need one. Should be a long time off though.

Generally your car is not going to pass without one, should give you a few sound effects though.

Is it not true that the Leon has two.

If your 101 db or more you can't run at Haynes (and i don't mean ICE!)

Sorry guys but the TDI are very quite. The difference with & without is negligible (sound wise that is).:)

Quiet is good for Haynes m8 so no need to be sorry :p

Quiet is good for peeps who sit in the car for up to 40 hours a week on the motorway too.

40hrs a week holy sh@t. I thought my 20 or so was bad.

That's worst case if I'm all over the place and go home every night. 20 would be more like normal.

Still a sh@t load of time to spend in "el coche". I'm lucky I guess because I don't really get loads of traffic (I get in and out of work before or after rush hour).

Isn't it ironic that people who may be in a rush or seem to be in a rush end up going nowhere fast:confused:

LOL:D

Then again, there's another thing that intregues me:

Why are the guys that fly up into space called astronauts and the things people have on their butts called hemoroids , shouldn’t it be the other way around?;)

What sort of times do you think you will get? 1/4 mile & 0-60.
do you get lots of wheel spin/Torque steer.

Man thats alot of Torque....:D

I don't really know what it would do from a standing start. Some sources saythe transmission is only good for 258lb/ft, so I haven't tried sidestepping the clutch. It'll do 30-100 in 4th in 13 secs, and 50-70 in 3rd in 3.7 (IIRC).

The new generation TCS is pretty good; it allows a little bit of wheelspin / understeer but nothing ridiculous. On a wet roundabout even the standard car just goes straight on if you floor it with the TCS switched off.

There's very, very little torque steer, I'm pleasantly surprised by that. The tyres lose about 1mm per 1,000 miles though... :)

the CAT has to be on the car to pass. it does nt matter if the car has low emissions without it.

Have a read

http://www.motuk.com/mot_manual/6-4.htm#14

I've trawled through this & asked the questions @ MOT centres

If you can find it - i'll be happy to retract it - but as long as it passes without the cat, it does not need one (see comment about modified engines)

I've only had a quick look at the link, but it's talking about spark ignition engines, so it doesn't apply to me.
