View Full Version : baffled sump
looking a baffled sumps. who does them apart from jabba?
is jabbas any good?
HoocH
SEAT Sport make them (buy though Bill, as they don't deal direct)
Jabba's is a Pro-alloy copy, but doesn't have a couple of features that the SEAT Sport one has (bash plate for starters)
£270 rings a bell pricewise.
i did think the jaaba one looked inadequate (spelling ?)
hence this thread!
you know when bills back?
Keep me posted on this one hooch, been thinkin about it myself.
why not go dry sump setup??????

Make your own for $1400
And then wonder where you're going to put the tank in the spacious bonnet area
battery in boot.oil tank where battery was.
easier to get one from pace as they done the ones for formula palmer audi so they know exactly what you need and have got them in stock
ive got loadsa spare spots for a tank luckily

Been using the Jabba one for a while now on 1.8T engined Lotus Elise racecars on slicks and not had any problems with it.

The engine in the Palmer Audi is mounted longitudinally. Are you sure they make one suitable for transverse installation ?
Bernard
235 quid from Jabbsport hooch, its on their website.
they are both the same. you wont get oilstarvation because whats in the tank(not the sump)will be lubracating the system
almost identical to a vauxhall 2.0 xe unit there fitted to a fwd astra and to mk 1 and 2 escorts using exactly the same parts fith no alterations reqd for fwd or rwd setup.

Hmmm, still a bit worrying because the sustained G forces are at 90º to each other in the two installations. If you pull high g for long enough won't the tank be emptied ?

cheers phil
think im going for the seat sport one tho :)

Just check the JS one (Pro-Alloy) has the rubber flaps firmly in situ....
There has been one definate failure on one of these sump flaps resulting in engine/turbo carnage from oil starvation when the rubber flap got sucked into the oil pickup pipe, blocking it.
I'll stick with the genuine Seat Sport item myself.
i forgot to ask you when i spoke to you earlya bill. can you get me one? how much?
cheers

Yeah i know what your taking about.
The exact same happened on your old golf Bill when my mate bought it, sucked up a rubber baffle on his way home from buying it off the lad.
Hooch, if your gonna get one, get a good one.

when you fly into a corner all the oil serges to one side of the sump, potentially causing oil starvation ( which is bad)
A baffled sump prevents this happening.
In my opinion its not needed for road use.
depends how you drive matt!?
Running an oil pressure gauge will give you an idea if you need one. Good to have anyway (Gauge) IMO.

I dont drive that hard on the road.
But if i were to go to a track then it would be a different story.
DPJ, agree with you, a gauge is a good way to monitor this.
on the road you shouldn't drive at such speed on the kind of corners that will cause this....
sticky tyres also have an effect on this - but judging by some of the video's you've posted, I don't think you're a sensible driver... so all bets are off.
