Well, not really - but tonight I've acquired a winter hack about

R plate 2.0 8v GTi, sunroof, ABS & two airbags. newish 020 gearbox

Bought from a fellow forum member ;) today with 12 months MOT to boot.

Volcano red, with 16v wheels (I took a pic, but it's pitch black)

Should get me to work safer than the bike on the A43 at night!

Looking forward to not modding it..... but that won't happen:whistle:

Suspension for certain, a stereo :), new tyres & probably 280's (which I have a set of)

ARB's, general servicing etc and a bit of tidying up.

• New car posts? do we really need to read that in 5 years time? yes - we're all VERY excited that yet another person has a Cupra TDI, but in a few hours, it's just another database filler - stick it in General off topic chat so it can be sacked off in 30 days.

buhahaha

It makes it even better that you said it (albeit 3 years ago).

I think that pimp rims might not be the best idea for winter

Current thoughts are G60 steelies for the van, mk3 20V 5 spokes for the ibiza. it's all going to rotate around new tyre costs, and how many I need.

new tyres on, HID's ordered, alignment will come on the weekend if I don't go to work.

Headunit to be ordered up, and a thorough washing is needed!

not yet. 24hrs time it will have a modded intake.... too quiet by far

pulled the throttle cable through so I get full throttle now

T-cut the bonnet with a mechanical polisher - looks much better now... just the rest of the panels to do now.

washed it al quite well.... will get in there with the engine cleaner on the inner arches tomorrow though

I've bought some spacers now

drilled the airbox on Saturday too, that's sounding much better since removing all that inlet crap out of the way.

andyj
09-10-2007, 22:46
mark,

you need to do a "must-do" list for new owners of Mk2's.....

1. FIt rear spacers
2. Replace orange side repeaters with clear ones
3. Remove all air intake junk
4. Drill airbox
5. Pull accelerator cable taught, providing full throttle
6......

etc

:D

that would be schweet mOrk i just bought my 8v cuprasport gti and need all this little info as this is my first beeza.

I did have a cordie sx (1.6 version) but i sold it for a faster car and immediately missed it so i suppose i got the bug!!!

andyj
10-10-2007, 09:12
If you open the bonnet, and look at the airbox on the left hand side of the bay, there is a load of plastic cowling etc around the back of the drivers side haedlamp....

this basically restricts the airflow into the airbox....

it doesn't 'do' anything and can quite easily be removed ;)

as for drilling the airbox, have a search, it's been covered hundreds of time !!! ;)

Ive ordered my spacers, need to replace the side repeaters and get HIDs!!!

m0rk
11-10-2007, 18:43
Well, my Spacers turned up today - fitted them (made sure they sent me ones with a chamfer) - they arrived 'next day'

My HID's also arrived - posted Monday from China.

Fitted both HID's and spacers inside 30 mins - HID's cause zero dial resetting, and I've not seen the interior lights dim etc.

best bit - they're the cheapest ones I could find - at £22..... and are just the same as the £180 set I have in my garage with the wrong bulbs

F2 Stu
11-10-2007, 18:45

m0rk
11-10-2007, 20:01

a quick run up the road in the dimpsy light around dusk left me wondering how I'd managed a week without them

piccy piccy piccy hahaha

Mckellar
11-10-2007, 20:03
yeah definately, i had a 1.4 with them, then when i knew i was getting the cupra, i ordered them and fitted them at the sellers house.

Couldnt go without them now, yellow light just doesnt cut it!

m0rk
11-10-2007, 20:07
Will get some pics over the weekend, I need to replace the very yellow looking dim dip bulb first.

Also need to rewire the switch to run HID Dip beams with full beam, rather than switching between them

craig87
11-10-2007, 20:14
are they easy to wire up???

m0rk
11-10-2007, 20:28
yeah, they did come with some instructions - but I didn't read them

undo the positive & negative terminals for the old bulb, clip into the HID wiring loom.... clip HID wiring loom together & it's all OK

Mckellar
11-10-2007, 20:34

No, there's carriage on top, but all in it was sub £43 delivered.

Winter hack cars don't need too much investment - all driving in traffic etc anyway, so not 'much' chance to use

I forgot how good spacers are.

craig87
11-10-2007, 20:58
how wide spacers you running on the rear??

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:02
what fitment are the HIDs for the beeza??

Mckellar
11-10-2007, 21:16
H1 for the gti.

id imagine - 15mm spacers?

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:18
only reason asking bout spacers i got 20mm ones coming and 10mm ones and got mk3 cupra rims on coilovers and wanted to know how the 20mm ones will sit on the back i.e. will i need arches rolled??

I got quite a heavy sound system in the boot so i dont want it slammed on the rear jus sittin above the tyres by a finger really would this be ok??

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:19
There is some 'bosch' HIDs from china on ebay for £50 with p and p included maybe ill try these??

m0rk
11-10-2007, 21:20
H1 for the gti.

id imagine - 15mm spacers?

correct on both counts

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:24
you havent got urs slammed tho have you mOrk?? How do the wheels sit under the arches with the 15mm spacers?? Will i need my arches skimmed for 20mm spacers

m0rk
11-10-2007, 21:26
The GTi is on std springs

there's nothing to really skim off the arches though.... it's kinda structural

on the other car (when it was on 16*7 rims) I don't think 20mm spacers would have cleared the arch

http://www.seatcupra.net/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5146&g2_serialNumber=6

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:28
what do you mean by wouldnt have cleared the arch??

m0rk
11-10-2007, 21:29
I think the tyre would batter the rim/lip of the arch if you run 7"+ wheels & 20mm spacers & normal tyres (and lowered)

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:32
lol so the mk3 cupra alloys + 20mm spacers = battered arch lip!!!

That why i bought the 10mm ones as well will they be ok??

m0rk
11-10-2007, 21:34
Mk3 20VT rims like I run on it now with 20mm spacers should be OK if you're on 195 section tyres, might catch periodically on bumps though.

205's caught all the time on my old cordie coupe when that was lowered though

10mm hubcentric?

craig87
11-10-2007, 21:36
i believe they are 10mm hubcentric i am waitin for them to be delivered bought them off of greg on here as well as the 20mm ones.

I am running 195 tyres mate

couple of bits of rust on the slightly warped bonnet, and a little on the nearside arch. easily sorted out though.

eagle eyes will notice the lower bumper 'grille' is missing (it's in the boot) but I'll pick a new one up at some point

UncleFester
13-10-2007, 15:53

Not really. engine mounts need beefing up, and I'm undecided what brakes to put on - but the car is purely functional.

my money pit is going to get almost 2 weeks work on it over the next 3 weeks as I use up holiday, so my 'pimp my vario' thread will be where it's at (hopefully!)

crezz
16-11-2007, 08:29
hi mork, you seem to be the right man to ask, im running compleatly standard, not lowered and running the white ronals. will 20mm spacers each side be ok? ive accuired some and would like to use them? any info will be great!

cheerz

Mckellar
16-11-2007, 11:23
20mm is fine, especially if youu havent lowered it. which i assume you'll be doing?

my porsche ones were 25, but that was to reduce a ridiculously high offset of 52, so brought it down to ET27, no bother.

they bolt straight onto your original hubs using small allen key nuts, then you out the wheel back on over the spacer where the ring is and all the holes should align correctly.

crezz
16-11-2007, 11:28
cheers david, so will they still be fine once its lowered? i wont be 'slamming it' down, lol

Mckellar
16-11-2007, 11:35
yeah should be fine mate, even if you get catching issues its as simple as selling the 20s and buying some 10/15mm ones, but if your not lowering after -60mm you'll be fine.

crezz
16-11-2007, 11:37
cheers buddy, could they be skimmed down slightly smaller anyway?

Mckellar
16-11-2007, 12:09
No, because the adaptors have rings on each side to hold onto:
inside > the hub
outside > the wheel

cant be slimmed, just need to get another set.

I assume you know you need longer bolts?

crezz
16-11-2007, 12:12
no the set ive got has 8 holes and a set of small bolts, the small bolts bolt the spacer to the hub. the other four holes is where i assume my wheel bolts bolt into? would that be correct? sorry if its a bit dim, and 20 questions! lol

Mckellar
16-11-2007, 12:37
yes, small allen key bolts bolt directly onto your existing hub holes (where the wheels would usually bolt onto.

Becuase i bolted porsche wheels on, i needed thicker and longer bolts, i dont know how it works with standard spacers, if you just directly bolt the wheels to the spacer with original bolts or if you need to longer ones, someone like Mark (m0rk) will know as he has spacers on his vario.

Hope this helps a bit.

crezz
16-11-2007, 13:20
cheers buddy

m0rk
16-11-2007, 18:43
mine bolt right through to the disc, using long bolts - but I did have 20mm with about -60mm drop on my coupe & that caught a lot. 15's should be fine though

crezz
16-11-2007, 18:50
the ones ive got are 20mm, my wheels should bolt to the spacer the same as it did to the hub tho, without using longer bolts, shouldnt it?

when i get some coilovers i wana drop the back about 50mm, will this still rub?

cheers

Brummy
16-11-2007, 18:51
gonna be doing the rears after winter.. (still got those estorils to put on) so will be kicking them out a fair bit, methinks

m0rk
16-11-2007, 18:53
I would guess so. bolt the spacer to the hub, then the wheel to the spacer - use enough copper grease, and make sure and make sure some more that the spacer is secure.

I think they'll still catch though.

crezz
16-11-2007, 18:55
okey dokey, how low could i go before it will catch? any ideas?

crezz
17-11-2007, 14:30
just spoke to a local chap (mechanic) and he asked about my car and what mods im doing. i told him panel filter and so on. i then said about the spacers and he believes that they are not any good for the car. is this correct?
cheers

ibiza_95
17-11-2007, 14:42
theyre not beneficial to the car in anyway but looks, and will help you in renewing your rear bearings but not a major issue

crezz
17-11-2007, 14:53
oh right, is the 20mm a bit of an over kill? only wanted 15mm ones but couldn't find any hubcentric ones, i want sum that bolt to the hub, and the wheel to the spacers. thats what mine are like now but i 20mm.

dunno what to do

theyre not beneficial to the car in anyway but looks, and will help you in renewing your rear bearings but not a major issue

They help the handling. And people have had them on for years and had no problems with bearings.

oh right, is the 20mm a bit of an over kill? only wanted 15mm ones but couldn't find any hubcentric ones, i want sum that bolt to the hub, and the wheel to the spacers. thats what mine are like now but i 20mm.

dunno what to do

Check out my reply (and pics) to you in your coilover thread.
I've got the Weitec GTN kit, lowered approx 30mm from original Cupra height and now fitted with Delta Mics 20mm hubcentric spacers (spacers bolted to hub, then wheels bolted to spacers).
I've had no rubbing issues, with or without passengers.

Direct Line / Autoglass get a thumbs up from me.

called me at 9am saying they had (the right) glass in stock & can they fit it now? I'd just got to the hospital with Lorna, so put them off - they said "how about this evening?" booked 5-7.

However, I'm back early as all went well & called them up & he's coming out.

MIght be water tight by dew point tonight!

Well happy. Might go for a run out tonight to 'dry' it out a bit

correct on both counts

15mm with standard bolts?
stopped using my 20mm spacers due to issues with bolts and stud conversions. maybe I need to get some 15 or 10mm ones and use the standard bolts if they are long enough?

what length for 10mm spacers?
does bill still do these or where else can I get them?

bill sells studs, which you glue in & cut down. I can't remember how much they are, but that's what I have on the vario

ryand

thanks mark, but been there done that x2 sets, had issues with both so took them off the car along with spacers, so would need bolts really if i was to get 10mm spacers - do they do hubsentric ones, as could sell my 20mm ones on here I guess.

boring update....

I'd pretty much slicked my front tyres, so I've fitted the 5 spokes from the van.

they're staying :D much prefer them

The ronals clear my 312's on the van anyway, so all's good

I have a huge box of bits to fit now

top mounts, wishbones, ball joints, rod ends, thermostat

I was going to do it today, but I remembered that if I'm taking the wishbones off I'll snap the ARB link, so I'll order a pair tomorrow to get that sorted

GSF parts are shit & don't fit I decided after 1) their HT leads are wrong & expensive b) the rotor caps are shit & don't work.

otherwise it's doing OK. thermostat is required because I don't think it has one, or if it does it's stuck open.

not broken down once, or failled to start... might even do some polishing stuff at some point

Today someone ran fairly lightly into the back of me 5-10mph tops - didn't brake, since he was fetching stuff from his passenger footwell as we crawled through traffic to get to a roundabout.

and for the £100 they get tax til October (and MOT) 3/4 tank of fuel and about £150 of spares that are likely to be useful....

I have no further use for it, plus I'm expecting £500 from the insurance - luckily my neck isn't twinging, so I should be happy riding for the rest of the year, maybe buying something later in the year again.

I used to have a g60 corrado. it was an amazing car. 212 bhp and 300 lb/ft of torque![B)] all done by 5.5k revs! 0-60 in 8 seconds (only did 55 in second gear) but 60-120 took only 4 seconds! and it revved out at 155 mph! one of the best handleing cars i've ever had and with the body being made by karmann and not VW it didn't rust much. i miss it very dearly!

comfy cruiser... has some overboost thing, but to be honest it's not a bad car (funny seating position!)

I can justify 'having' it due to not wanting to have the boot broken into (you could pull it open if you were he-man) and get damp from the split in the floor.

I'm not claiming any PI, mainly because I've had two proper shunts & my necks not that bad... so I see that running about in an ST for three weeks is their way of "making it up to me" for having a dopy driver run into me :)

Ken overheard my convo with them on Saturday on the way through belgium, I was quite concise with them when they told me the guy that bumped me didn't think there was any damage...

jenk
03-06-2008, 22:39
All they need to do is see your car, I cant belive people try and get out of it. They should get a mark on there record for being a mess about that hikes up there insurance........thats a good idea! Took me a whole year to settle a claim, silly fool got points and a fine in the end which pushed the insurace through........if it wasnt for that it would have took longer still.

Ken overheard my convo with them on Saturday on the way through belgium, I was quite concise with them when they told me the guy that bumped me didn't think there was any damage...

Was he wearing the same acme X-ray specs when he was looking where he was going through the footwell?

Ive been thinking of trying to get my hands on a pretty cheap corrado that I can have as a project.

How much you willing to spend, i may be able to get you what you're after.

David.

Well, I called the insurance company today & got told what they'd offer me for the car that I bought in September, with 12 months MOT, but since needs 2 tyres, top mounts & has a matt black bonnet, and dents in the roof and an MOT in a few months... :(

needless to say, adding 7k to the already "high" mileage leaves it at 110k almost exactly - I didn't hold out for a high settlement especially given "private poor" on Parkers was valuing it at £435, and I think Glasses was £380

it really leaves me with no option, but to sell it (buyer lined up)...

any guesses on what they offered?

If its cheaper than what i got mine for, i'll be peeved..

Then again.. my mileage is way lower than that
:)

*Edited to say my car is two years younger, though..

C'mon Mark, Spill the beans

Well, I paid tom £750 for it in September

Third party will pay me £810 for the car, and I keep it - and it doesn't go on the register... and I sell the car for £x00

I grudgingly accepted their first offer :D

The list 'so far' is:

MX5/Eunos - highly saleable, good retained value - it can't loose any more money!. but it's old, and parts are not cheap
Arosa - Cheap to run, maintain etc. Small tank, but I don't do miles in this one
Puma - Cheap to run, maintain - unknown qty, but based on Fiesta's, and there's loads of them
BMW Compact - :w4nk:, but RWD

Sadly a Pisrat for lil old me to get to work in is overkill... we have the Mitsi Colt for doing miles in

Not sure what else? MGF... bit unreliable & shit looking, but RWD

whats the feasability of an Arosa/lupo with something like a G40/g60 for a stealth sleeper/ track missile?

Another Mk2? Mk3 Golfs seem to be going cheap too, doubt you would loose any money on that?

Missus has just had a mk2 xm5, cracking little motor. If I cant get insurance on a westie I would seriously think about a mk1 as a toy. Cracking thing about them........roof off in seconds! non of this fandangled electric poop.
