Due to recent carjackings in this wonderful town called Bradford, I rang the salesman from JCT600 to book the car in for this particular safety feature to be enabled, after reading about it in this splendid forum. He said he'd ring me back (he never did, the tosser)so I rung him back. He told me that the Ibiza Tdi 130 model I bought in November, did not have an anti hijack facility, but the newer versions do. Newer versions? Is he taking the p*ss? Anyone in the know enlighten me? Much appreciated!

It appears they changed the software spec and enabled "auto locking" on later model 130's.

Mine has it.

I can only assume its a function of software. Ask your dealer to reflash your ECU with the latest software to activate it. I presumne that you don't have "one touch three flash" indicators either ?

Its one of the features I like the most that I only have to hit the indicator stalk once to know that it has flashed three times. Great for motorway manouvers.

Mines a May 2002 car and the dealer enabled it at the first service for me. Mine also doesn't have the 3 flash indicators and the slow-down-when-you-stop wipers, but they'll have a go at adding them next time it's in. It's all software.

I think he is talking B******T.I got mine from JCT @ Bradford in October and it came already enabled with anti-hijack. Who did you talk to at JCT (Mick!)? Try ringing straight through to service and speak to one of the technicians there or probably better still go to another dealer as I have seen bad reports about JCT that makes me think it will be better going elsewhere when mine is due for service.

So, IIRC, the door locks activate at and above 5 mph? Whats the point in that? May be valid, but I don;t see it at the minute, although I'm sure someone will enlighten me!!!;)

They stay locked after they activate until you take the ignition key out.

Stops scum opening your doors / boot when you're stopped in traffic etc. I like the feature 'cos I read enough carjacking stories on Scoobynet to get into the habit of locking myself in my Scoob.

Presuambly the autolocking unlocks if the airbags deploy? Anyone want to try it ;)

I think they do unlock in an emergancy situation but you can unlock a door by two pulls on the lever anyway incase it doesn't.

How does the car know your in an emergency situation?

There's a hidden microphone in the roof. If you scream overa certain level it knows it's an emergency ;)

Haven't you read the manual everyone. Just under the drivers seat is a clever little device that detects the odour of brown stuff eminating from the posterior. The ECU then says aha emergancy situation and unlocks the doors so that they can be opened to evacuate the deadly smell. Oh and of course save the upholstery from an untimely death.

Guys...Thanks for your replies. Gonna persue it further I think. I actually got the car from JCT600 in Rawdon. I won't deal with them again, because there aftersales service is crap. " I'll ring you right back " being my particular favourite. Same old story, innit.....Once they have your money........

My local dealer aint the best either - I have been waiting since before christmas for a new boot catch, they said they would call when it arrived. I rang on friday and he said "oh, its due in on monday" - what a coincidence eh!? (still cant fit it until the 8th March though)

lol after the scream and poop sensors

it uses the airbag sensors

which are variable in tolerances

if you have it installed - drive over a kerb @ 60 or hit a wall head on to test it :p lol

If an airbag is deployed it will automatically unlock doors and cut off fuel pump relay to kill engine. Very simple and logical until you get an airbag control unit fault and your car stops:(
