Just got vag com and the cable is due in 2-3 days. Ive been having a look at the software but am finding it very confusing!!!! I want to be able to measure performance i.e. bhp, torque, max boost top speed 1/4mile etc etc on a run in the car. What do i need to do (Measuring blocks numbers??) and how is it then imported into a proggy like excel??

all help appreciated

thanks

mike

Mike,

Your questions depend on what kind of ECU your car is using with reference to the measurement blocks you need to log.

However, I suggest you join the VAGCOM forum and search for more info as it has been discussed before.

Block numbers I use, are 003, 115, 118, 120
120 is derived torque output in Nm

when you log in using VAG-COM you will see descriptors for the blocks as you scroll through them.

DO NOT go into the Airbag controller. It will die when using VAG-COM

you can log to a csv file, which then can be post processed in Excel. eg like this>> http://www.badger5.demon.co.uk/bin/dynoplot-vagcom2.xls

Bill,

The airbag problem (which is a VW firmware bug) is only specific for some models.
See http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vw_issues.html

If you visit the Car Info and procedures page (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/index.html) under the section "Some useful off-site links" you can find some URLs pointing to ready to download XLS examples in order to use your VAG-COM as a measurement tool for Dyno plots and other infos by using the measurement blocks feature of VAG-COM.

I suggest the following

Some excellent customer-generated block 120 & 115 graphs and spreadsheets
The "Butt Dyno" Spreadsheet
Shiftpoint Analysis Spreadsheet

Unfortunately, I suppose you got the Serial to OBDII cable and VAG-COM 208.1. There is a USB to OBDII cable sold along with the VAG-COM (works with the beta version 212.2) from Ross-Tech for computers without serial ports. Since you only have the Serial to OBDII cable i suppose you can buy (try before you buy) a USB to Serial converter, in order to connect the cable to your PC.

yeah vag-com 208.1, but didnt get cable from ross tech got cheaper else where. Tried USB-Serial convert but no luck wouldn sync with software invalid baud etc etc. Sor order a serial PCMCIA card which ross tech recomend. £68 all in so hopefully all is good
