I'm moving house soon and will be doing 20k miles a year. I don't want to sell the LCR as I love it to bits and thought the best thing to do would be to get a cheap second car to rack up the mileage (diesel escort or something). It turns out I can only use my no claims bonus for one car, so my quote for the second car (1.8tdi escort) is £680 - which is what I'm paying for my modded LCR. Are there any companies out there that let you use your no claims discount on both cars? If not I'm going to have to sell my beloved LCR and go back to a diesel!

Quite a few companies offer mirror bonus for 2nd cars. As long as youve got proof of NCB that sometimes is acceptable.

The only other way is to cancel the cover on the LCR, ( garage it for a while) use the bonus from the LCR to Insure your second car. Then use the same bonus to insure the LCR again. not technically ethical but use it to your advantage.

When we say use the bonus , all it is , is a piece of paper.

Thats what I was going to suggest. You shouldn't need to cancel the cover on the LCR, just find your last renewal notice and send that off.
Just don't crash in the first year!

I'm confused, is that assuming I'm insuring the cars with different insurers? Basicallly, not telling each insurer I have another car that is using the no claims bonus?

Can you give me some names please. I'm having difficulty finding them!

Yeah, you keep the LCR insured with your usual insurer and go with someone else for the new car. When they want proof of no claims you send them your last renewal notice.

I think admiral do a multi-car policy.

A Plan or Elephant.

Also try the high street and small independent brokers. The majority of business is now transacted on statement of fact which means the broker holds onto the documents, ie Insurer never sees them. Like Si says, just take your renewal notice in, say you sold your car etc.

Also ask Neil from Greenlight, he may do a mirror bonus for you

Anyone would think that Im an Insurance Broker

Direct Line do matched no-claims - you even earn proper no-claims on the second car!

Can't believe people are seriously suggesting cheating on it - arent there enough people driving around with dubious insurance already??

A Plan matched my NCB on a 2nd car I had (old banger).

I've now gone just gone with Admiral Multi-car quote for the Scooby and Ibiza with 2 drivers on each. We both still gain NCB's as i'm a main driver on one car and her the other.

Saved me about £400 this year by combining the with admiral than running 2 separate policies.

I've changed over to ****** now, as they gave me a really good price on the LCR and they confirmed that they do mirror the NCB on a second car.

Cheers guys, it's saved me £300 on the LCR and god knows how much when I get a second car! :D

Admiral/Bell/Elephant are really good with second cars, they'll insure a second car on your policy for 3 months but they'll also discount a second policy if you want to run it for longer.

Sensible man. You don't really want to try and pull the wool over an insurance company, do you. They'll do anything to backheel a claim in the event of an accident, and this is just the sort of thing they'll love. Yep, they'll take your money for a year, safe in the knowledge that if you don't have an accident then they're quids in. If you do have an accident then they'll just refund your premium and tell you you're not (and in fact never were) insured.

Anyone know if greenlight mirror the NCB?

They weren't very helpful when I rang them to find out, they didn't seem to be able to understand that I wanted to insure a diesel run-about as a second car. The response I got was "we only insure modified cars"
