View Full Version : Multiple Threads are OK?
I base my reasoning on that the Wolfpack Meet thread which snowballed was in the Cupra R section, with hundreds of replies (until a certain busy-body redirected the thread) although his unwelcome intervention, which was badly received by members (they told me today to my face at the Meet) but happily his snide actions did not derail the successful Meet this afternoon.
The Meet was also originally posted in the Local Meets Section, which received less than 10 replies. So the multiple post worked.
I muse, would Admin rather close multiple threads, even if the end result of just one of them would be successful and beneficial to members. This is not spamming, it is widening the scope of reading a topic.
Therefore, I propose a change to the no-multiple posts rule.
Admin, your views are welcomed.
I can see where your comming from Brian, but we wont allow multiple threads.
To give a subject the best all round viewing we would make it a sticky or an announcement.
As was said, would be nice to be asked, then we can help.
We have a website, spam mail and stickys at our disposal, but as you must see these as unimportant sections of the site, or unable to request these without critisism, then don't expect us to ask when we move or delete multiple threads.
Good meet though, spot on respect for it.
Sorry i couldn't make it, bit of a distance for me, but had prior engagement at a family gathering. :bored2:
Lee...
Okey dokey.
I agree, it's a fine line between spamming and genuine enthusiasm for promoting a topics content, but I feel that if the threads were left to lie and develope for a few days and then to be condensed into one thread then it would result in a better outcome.
Zboyd...
With all due respect, prior notification of threads being moved etc would be more courteous, giving the thread's author a chance to either edit or delete a post/thread by him/her self, rather than the current practise of Admin, for want of a better word, of "putting the boot in".
BTW - I realise that the Wolfpack Meet was a long distance for you to travel to, no apologies needed. Thanks for your appreciative words.
Sometimes multiple threads with the same initial topic can become quite diverse - just in the course of discussion.. so does the topic on the top of the thread mean that much? I would imagine if threads go OT they could still be worth keeping, even if there's another thread with the same subject heading...
Just a thought.
Subvert. Question :)

i would have thought most people on here use the "view recent posts" so a single post might be as useful, ive seen in the past people answering the same post on several different threads, to me it just dilutes the focus on one post. my tuppence.
From what I've seen, different members view and use the site in many different ways.
Some regularly scan New Posts, some only view sections appropriate to their car, some explore the forums fully.
The New Threads List is automatically deleted after about 6 hours, as I believe. Therefore many threads will be missed by members reliant on following "New Threads".
In the past, I have mooted a facility for a Posts Un-viewed, Last 24 hours, Last 72 hours listing facility. No reply or acknowledgement from Admin was received but it may not be available on this forum's set-up, but it is available on other forums and works very well.
I feel that if these facilities could be incorporated into the site then it would lessen the need for Multiple Posts and members could keep up with the ever increasing number of threads and posts.
And i'll say it again, if something is important, then all that needs to be said is can we please make this thread sticky please and if its for a mega meet or something, we'll pimp it on the spam mail, website, and banner if neccersary.
All you need to do is ask. Its really easy to do.
I tend to use new posts, which on my computer last days if I havent been on the site.
Also tend to email z about bits which dont tend to have anything to do with seatcupra.net (other than a 8cm sticker) such as our rallying exploits and it always gets posted on the main 'tinternet site
