I HAVE A V-99 CUPRA SPORT 2.0 8V - 21K MILES. WHO HOW AND HOW MUCH CAN DO A P-EX ENGINE TRANSPLANT?
I WANT A 1.8 20V TURBO.
ANY IDEAS
MANY THANKS
WILL
(MY BONNET LOOKS FAT - MY ENGINE LOOKS THIN)
AND YES I AM AN UNGRATELFUL LAD WHO ALWAYS WANTS MORE - BUT SPEED, POWER, NOISE AND THRUST IS SOMETHING WE CAN ALL AGREE TO BEING HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND PLEASUREABLE.
I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN SO WILLINGLY AND UNNECISARILY - AND I CAN'T SPELL EITHER!
See the Amd or Awesome websites. They often have whole engines for sale. Not sure about p/x though cos the engines are normally sold for individuals looking for cash. Jabba may have some ideas and also any VW breakers, see PVW.
The cost of the transplant wil be substantial, probably almost as much as your car is worth.

buy a 20VT or will cost about 2.5K-3K for 20VT conversion.

I've seen a few 40k FTO Ralliart 2.0 v6 tiptronic going for arounf 6-8 grand. loads about, great value - being jap imports, and as the cupra ibizas are not excactly oversold, my car could fetch 6k, which is what i bought it for. ok book price isn't generous, but i had to travel a long way to get my car with such low mileage and young like v-99. therefore, the ftos should depreciate faster than my cupra sport, and if i wait till my insurance is up for renewal - could sell mine for the same or even more than i could buy an fto for.
any thing i should now about fto's? you must agree they do look sweet.
oh sh=t hope i'm not loosing loyalty to the seat - but if i've got 6k on my driveway and i can buy a better(?) car for that, then it's worth considering.
the cost of modding a car is too high without guarantee of what it will be like - plus, surely it is best, and abit conservative, to buy what you want rather than try and make what you want. you dont seem to get your money back on resale once modded?
You'd do very well to get £6k for your 8v. Look at the car in the for sale section.
You never get your 'money back' on mods, unless it's really extra special.
'Make what you want' is part of the fun.

very true ed, although i know it is silly money for the head/cam job for the amount of power you actually get but hey, no one else has had it done yet and im sure it will make the car very entertaining:D more smiles per miles
I bet it has been done before. Certainly on Golf that use the same engine and prob been a few Ibizas too. Still, not to say that you won't have a near-unique set-up. Also, you know this will work because it's a tried and tested mod.

very true, at least i will know it is a good modification and a definite modification which will make the dirveability much more fun!!
cant wait for it the work to be done, roll out the credit card....:D ;)
although yes it has been done on other golfs, there is only really RobT who has had it done on here, now i am proud to say i am the first 8v owner on this site to get it done. i just hope i am pleased with the end result but i hear from people such as Bill that AutoTechnik are very good and certainly know their stuff and will do a very good job.
Better start saving for a 20V head conversion on throttle bodies then :D That would be quite unique if a little damaging on the wallet.

i think i got a quote for throttle bodies once, about £1300 or more i think will bring it up to about 180-190BHP and their will be bags of torque but i just heard my wallet landing on the floor with a huge thud, its just had a heart attack.....OUCH!!!:D

I think this should see 220bhp quite comfortably with a couple of other inexpensive (ish) mods and a good bit of development might see it nearer 250 perhaps.
Still I don't have the money for this but it's a nice idea.

i just had probably the best drive to work ever.
what was different?
driving an 8v without booting it in each gear, leaves the rest of the cars performance to the imagination as you can feel the power and torque just waiting, but never really being allowed.
then at the last minute, boot - and i have to say just the cat bypass and induction has made this more enjoyable. substantially.
plus, stick on classic fm.
yeh, thats right.
i usualy enjoy the noise of my car too much to close the window or have any vibes on - but the relaxed, calm classical music made the car seem even more rebellious.
oh, and i also drove past my work exit for a few more miles and turned back.
i do love my car.
sometimes you just want more, but will that ever stop, no matter how much more i spend?
i'm gonna sit tight. get other priorities sorted, and then if i still reckon i want more - i'll probably take good tony's advice and send her off to autotechnic. amd obviously have a good reputation, but seem so f;;;ing negative about results, if any! - they do make you feel that you got a shit car with no potential. well the 8v's have to be the best value for money, reliable, low mileage models easy to acquire, sporty, fun, great looking and great sounding and solid cars! yes a 16v is quicker, doesn't seem as torquey lower end, but all have higher mileage and cost more. the 20vt have sooo much potential, but s/h you are looking at 9,500+ with above average mileage.
very keen to see the results tony. you are doing this for every other 8v driver (unintentionally!)
See BBSparky's 8v. He's had work done by AmD and got 130 bhp from a remap and a couple of other bolt-ons. I think AmD are realistic. It'a a case of potentially you can see this figure maybe more but it depends how god your motor is to start with.

as much as doing it for myself, yes i suppose i am guiding the way for the 8v's as well, kind of a shining torch in the dark depths of the Seat 8v world!!;) :p
well i look forward to may,and i am sure i will be happy with the results. stick with what you have got Dom, loads of potential in a small car, good fun to drive, hell there are always gonna be cars faster than yours, but this is what you can afford now and enjoy it while you have it
i could of been silly and bought a Subaru WRX, with high mileage etc. but along with that high maintenance, very high insurance and alot of petrol money instead of a Seat but then i had to be sensible, set myself a budget of what car i could afford, how much insurance, maintenance etc.
my limit was £7000 and my Seat fell into this category perfectly, so i was happy to get a nice car within my agreed budget, no point over stretching yourself too much just for a car and not having any other money to live on or enjoy yourself with, that would be silly.

tony - couldn't agree more. my budget was 6-7. was looking for golf vr6, my mate had a fantastic wrx up for 7 with 45k - but insurance was a bit steep, but not stupid - and he reckon'd i'd have killed myself in it. i did fall in love with a highline spec vr6 in green (not too keen) but with cream leather (to go with sofa) but dealer was an arse hole re p-ex and i had to try and sell my new almera to dealers myself cos it was too new for him. lovely car the vr6, but the only thing i liked was the build quality, leather, and the vr6 sound and pull - but the golfs are too common and really don't look anything great - and sooooo overpriced. the mitsi fto is a consideration for later on, but if its worth the same as mine, then obviously it aint gonna last as long cos mines only 21k, they're all 38/40k+. i'm gonna sit tight and enjoy what i've got.
went for a spin home at lunch to get an office cd and couldn't wipe the smile off my face. how often does one get to boot it anyway? is it really worth all your money to go faster - you're absolutely right, beer, food, a social life and not sweating over bills and rent is far more satisfying/important if you already have a cupra.
did you celebrity driving school this week?
the 'suits you' guys from fast show made me piss myself -
swiss tony: "you see, learning to drive is very much like making love to a beautiful woman, a bit nervous getting in, not sure whether to go fast or slow, can find your self going the wrong way up a back street, and you must always make sure your instructor is completely satisfied before pulling out." ! ! ! !
tony - top comment.
