How does the MPG computer work? Does it work off the gear box??

I know that when you put big wheels on a small car the speedo reads wrong by a few percent. my question is will this work the same with MPG on the computer?

I struggle to get over 30mpg in my cordy and was wondering whether the 17's could be causing the computer to think its not travelled as far as it really has??

test it out.

fill your car to the brim, then drive it about normally & then fill it up again, noting the mileage between the fill ups & also the number of litres used.

www.seatcupra.net/files/mpg.exe is a handy took mark sheerin knocked up to work it out.

you'll loose mpg with the bigger wheels (or so i have each time) due to increased rolling resistances.

30mpg aint that bad. i get 15mpg from my 1.4 :)

34mpg was the best I have EVER had and that was not easy.

I find the comp. to be pretty acurate. The autonomy counter is a bit off especially when the is in reserve (a couple of quick bends and it goes from 30km left to 0 and back to 30).

I've notice the l/100km go down by just switching from 205 to 225 (both on the 17's).
