I have just ordered some 6x9 Infinity 6953i (£75) rear speakers to replace the crappy standard ones in the rear of my Ibiza 20VT. Does anybody have pics of these installed on the rear parcel shelf to show how they did it. I see from an earlier thread that 1/2" MDF is recommended, is this cos the shelf is too flimsy to support the weight of 6x9's? Also, I presume you need to hack off the current connectors to the rears and extend the wire's to the new speakers and if so how is it best done i.e. block connectors, bullet crimps etc. As a bit of a novice I'm not too sure the best way to do it but am willing to give it a try, can't be too difficult?

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed

auto leads do a nice 4 way connector that will fit in to the tab on the shelf support :)

the shelf is strong enough to hold the speakers , BUT it is hollow , so take some time / planning when cutting +mounting

i want to try with , grille on top , and speaker underneath (TIDY) but will drop in from top no problem , just fits nice

and with shelf being hollow , wires are easy to hide

New 6x9 speakers are now in place and are a great improvement on the standard ones. Wires also hidden in hollow shelf all neat and tidy, thanks for that one Flapper. A really simple job, I would thoroughly recommend this upgrade to anyone who isn't an ICE freak but just wants a decent sound from their stereo without paying loadsa money.
