View Full Version : Air-con
I've noticed that my climate-control isn't keeping the car very cool.
The last three cars (Toledo, Bamma and the R) all had/have climate control and I've always left them set at 18 degrees. But the R seems to blow warmish air when the cabin is already quite warm. Switching to 'lo' blows nice chilled air but back to 18 and the air goes warm again.
The cabin temp. is always warm so it's not like the cabin needs to be warmed up to 18 degrees, it needs cooled.
Any ideas?
A temp sensor/thermostat problem?
Could well be a problem with the Climate control unit. Possibly the sunlight sensor on the dash.
Get the fault codes checked out.
My Toledo has just developed this as well.
Used to work fine now anything other than Lo pumps out warmish air !!
Have to tag along on this one and say that my MY03 Cupra does this also, though I only noticed yesterday whilst stuck in traffic!
I had thought it was something to do with the load on the engine 'cos I had all the toys on! ;)
could be a couple of things in my opinion:
Temp sensor or you might be lossing your freon (or whatever they use now) charge through a small leak.
Looking to get the car into the dealer this thursday to see what the problem is.

Is it set to manual....?
If not sometimes even on Auto I bave to press tbe snowflake symbol to qet tbe compressor to work.
Is tbe snowflake symbol sbowinq?
'Snowflake' is showing and I've made sure it's on AUTO.
It's booked in for Monday so we'll see what happens.
You have most likely lost some or all of your gas - will probably just need a top-up and then keep an eye on performance - if it deteriorates again you must have a leak.
My mate had the same problem with his Prelude Vtec.
He got it re-gassed and it gets bloody cold now :yikes: whereas before it only made it cool.

I've heard elsewhere that aircon has to be used at least once a week or the seals fail...happened to my brothers jag and they advised him to use it at least once a week to prevent a reoccurance:(
I wouldn't say once a week, but once a month is a defo must due type thingy.
Car's just been to the dealer this morning.
New compressor on order
M
Don't have the list on me at the moment, but I'm sure that via the aircon diagnostics you can get the temperature that the internal sensors are reading.....if these look hight then that's probably the problem.
If it supplies chilled air when on "lo" then the compressor must be working.
mine was just supplying cooler outside air. Not cold.
I realised that just after I posted :hammer:
No chilled = knackered compressor.
Chilled on "lo" only implies fauly interior temp sensor.
:)
No probs Mik.
Compressor on order - whatever that means - delears says 48 hours or back order ??

The compressor isnt engaged and the air con isnt on if the 'snowflake' symbol isnt displayed.
