After battery removal, I needed to enter radio code. I cocked it up and the unit is now locked in SAFE mode
Having no luck in unlocking despite a call to SEAT and the advice of the local dealer. I have a 2001 Toledo V5 with a satnav unit
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Not sure about loss of power, but when I accidentally upset mine, I left the unit switched on (ignition off, keys out !). Took about an hour for me (depends on how many times you entered the wrong code), then you should be able to enter the code again.
Don't listen to the user manual where it says preferably leave the unit switch off - its tosh!

Can't believe they are all that bad!
Try another one or SEAT technical line (numbers in your service book package etc)
Good dealers to try are :-

Don't know if it's anywhere near similar, but I did the same thing to my dad's new Alfa :D and the instruction manual reckoned I had to leave the ignition on for about 30 mins (if I remember right), but not the engine running. This got the stereo out of the safe mode.
I could then enter the code as before.

As Grey Fox said, leave the stereo on for an hour or two (keys out, car locked) Come back and the stereo should be waiting for the code

seen some take 2 hours - others have needed over night before now
leave it on as long as possible
the more wrong tries the longer it takes
some have been known to just STICK that way
best test - leave on overnight - no joy - time for a new unit

Thanks for all the advice. At long last, it has unlocked itself (5 days on and off) :-)
Shame I had the wrong radio code and I had to wait another day till I got the right one
I had problems entering the radio code, and the radio kept going into safe mode, only when I tried a different combination of numbers to what the previous owner had written in the front of the radio book did I manage to unlock it. Its helpdful things like that, that make this life so wonderful ;)
lol safe mode is activated by WRONG CODE
if in doubt
CHECK @ a dealer for correct one
can usually be obtained same day (fax)
they will need serial number off the unit , so best take car in
bobclarke - glad ya ok - in the end LOL 5 days
best left on as long as possible in 1 go

was planned early 2003
i bought my toledo (last week), when i picked up the car they said thay had to change the battery, thus causing the radio to block. Salesman emailed SEAT with radio serial number etc, they emailed him back with the code but it didnt work, turned out salesman gave em wrong serial number (muppet). So he emailed them again with the right serial number and said he'd phone me when he got email back.He phoned, i put the code in, and guess what.......'SAFE' (muppet!) i rang back, told him that it wasnt having it, told me 2 bring it back and he'd change the radio 4 another one. Thing is i live 40 miles away. We arranged a day for me to bring it in, this day comes round and i thought id call b4 i set off to make sure he's there and guess what, he's nowhere to be seen. F***ed it off now and bought an aftermarket one. Love the car, but the dealer, Autoworld of Sheffield could do a lot lot better.
