Renewed the insurance on the R today and asked the Tesco guy about the annual mileage stipulations.
I asked if the "Estimated Annual Mileage" was for the car's annual mileage as a whole or for the actual mileage driven by Mary and I on the Tesco policy.
He categorically replied that it was for the actual mileage that we drove the car on the Tesco policy.
He added that it was only an estimation and if exceeded by a reasonable amount then a claim would not be rebuked as it is only an estimation.
I then stated that our car is driven by other driver's covered by their own Full Comp policies and would their mileage count? ;)
His reply was "No".
I then said that determining the mileage of these other drivers is a very grey area. His reply was "Yes, it is!" He added that in cases of a large excess mileage further investigations could be made.
He also said that if the estimated mileage was due to be exceeded greatly during the term of the policy, then a quick call notifying them of the impending excess mileage and paying the excess premium could be done at any time during the term of the policy.
For us, our premium for 10K miles is £517 and for 14K miles is £555, £38 difference.
I am not one to mess about with dodgy insurance disclosures, but I think the above info could help out in getting cheaper quotes. ;)
