Does anyone have a certain brand of derv that they use? any people find they get slightly better performace/economy from one particular brand?
I tend to use shell because its cheaper where I go. Being as these are the people who bring you optimax I hope their derv is of a good quality as well.
I use BP or Shell. To be honest I haven't noticed any difference, but tend to use BP as I can use my Nectar Card and earn points :)
I once filled up at ASDA - car did not like it, and the first time I've EVER seen smoke out of my car window (that was last week)
Goot :)
Have avoided supermarket apart from the time I had a Safeway coupon for extra money off (me tight? yup! :D).
The two nearest stations to work are Esso and BP, home is Esso and Total but also used Texaco, Shell etc.
Any major brand does me - makes such a change from searching out Optimax every 200 miles. I avoid places like 'Spot' though.
altho im still a petrol car owner.. in my experience.. i stay away from supermarket fuel.. coz, it aint really any cheaper.. and the last 2 cars ive had dont run too good on it.. so its usually esso for me.. (closet) but shell and bp are also options... i dont like the others.
Guess I'm the lucky one hear:D
In Portugal at least, BP offers 2 grades of diesel, normal (as offered everywhere else; 51 cetane and ultra which is 55 cetane.
I really don't notice much in performance gains, but the engine does run a bit smoother and produces much less smoke.
Used to go to Tesco all the time for diesel but after reading comments on here i started goin to Shell or Esso and i have to say that the performance and fuel economy has greatly improved.
Supermarket fuel may be cheaper but its nowhere near as good IMO.
so does anyone know who supplies tesco? I usually go there as it is a couple of pence per litre cheaper than other places - but if it really is lower grade fuel then I might have to change :)
Hmm...
round here (manchester) everywhere seems to be the same price.. so id always choose branded over supermarket.. even if there was a price difference!
I know we had this a couple of weeks ago, but I paid 79.9 yesterday at a BP garage for diesel (it is gonna be above 80 in the next week or two I reckon)

I have heard (so i mite be incorrect) that tesco and other supermarkets get their fuel from the same place that all the other companies get their fuel initially. Tho it seems that the supermarkets get the leftovers of what the main petrol companies dont take (so they get the bottom drags out of the tanks along with any dirt that is in the tank).
Also the major fuel companies put additives into their fuel taking out any dirt and making it better for your engine. Supermarkets dont do this so that is why they can sell fuel cheaper.
The fuel should be the same "grade" but it just wont be as good for your car.
Sainsbury's in Dundee have Diesel @ 75.9p per litre.
Just filled up on my way to the boat in cairnryan - didn't notice any adverse effects - yet ?
On the basis that some Esso stations now have a Tesco Metro shop attached (Worcester springs to mind as one I've used as well as one in London somewhere) then there may be a tie-up :dunno:
I am in spain this week, and diesel is 79 euro cents a litre :( (petrol is a few cents more than the diesel)
