The boot light on my LCR in no way would accept a 36mm festoon, I know as I ordered one by accident :( 39/40mm will however.

i agree make it a sticky :) took me ages the other day to find out what the part number was for a replacement brake light bulb.. probably me being a n00b but still handy to have as a sticky!:)

Yep good idea for a Sticky !!

MDS

1-2mm off will not be a problem.

Its a matter of just pushing harder or opening the terminals.

The Glovebox is the only case where you can´t place a larger Festoon.

I got the rear roof light bulbs out today but they dont have anything on them to say what they are? Has anyone changed these for LED's? It would be a real shame if thes bulbs cant be changed. They seem to be wired in to a plastic holder which clips in to the light housing.

I'll dig out the ebay link so i can tell you - they're not 'designed' to fit .... but anything that has wires that can be bent can be made to fit :)

i wouldnt worry about a few mm out as you can just bend the terminals.

Do you think you could modify a wedge bulb to fit in the rear roof lights?

I fitted my rear roof light bulbs today but was expecting them to be a bit brighter? Its a bit of a shame coz i think the interior front LEDs look really good

UncleFester

I'm pretty sure with a bit of tinkering you could make something brighter fit.

Question for UncleFester;

How did you get the rear light cluster to come off? I've just been out there to have a look at bulb sizes and I got nowhere. Is it just a case of getting a srewdriver behind the unit and using some gentle persuassion? (Not sure if I've just killed the central locking by pocking and prodding. It worked fine when I opened the car, but not when I came to lock up.)

Any clues you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have done near enough a full interior conversion bar the roof lining lights. Anyone know what size they are? What type of led etc...???

18-11-2008, 22:11
anyone have any problems when replacing the two 5w5 bulbs in the light above the rear view mirror with led ones. the festoon bulb in the middle works but the two 5w5 bulbs glow dimmly and flicker.

UncleFester
18-11-2008, 22:18
You got knackered LEDS by the sounds - either that or they are in back to front :)

jiege01

they are new and i tried four bulbs all doing the same thing. when you turn them around they domt light up at all :(

Nutkin
18-11-2008, 23:14
mine used to play up but it was a dodgey connection making two of the leds go into paralel instead of series and shortening the voltage causing them to burn out.

jiege01
19-11-2008, 15:02
got it sorted it was at the stage where they always stay on dimly. when turned on consstant or the door open they are bright

Can you confirm if the bulb sizes are the same for a 2006 55 plate Leon MK1?
It suggests it will be 382 on auto bulbs direct website, but when I look at the rear indicator light I can see the pins are offset, which means 581?

Also will they be the same for the fornt indicators?

Please can someone confirm!

thanks

They are mentioned as door lights above.
Although I'm pretty sure they are the 39mm festoons. Can't remember without checking.

Can someone confirm if the dipped headlights H7 are either reflector or projector?

My reason for asking is I have ordered and fitted a HIDS4U promax 55w kit (H7R 6k) these are supposed to be anti glare too.
My beam pattern is appauling and although they are bright when you look at them crouched down say 10 feets away they don't give off enough distant light to cover the road in front, especially the drivers side which seems worse for some reason. I have spoken to HIDS4U and they suggested cleaning the bulbs with meths, which I have done and made no difference.
I now think I have ordered the wrong kit, i.e. what is the metal covering which the bulb fits into within the headlamp, is this a beam "projector"? or just an anti glare cover? I ordered the reflector kit and paid £170 !! and tbh am not too impressed at the moment, I am now thinking I should have just got the £44 Dianne shop kit which on some photos posted on the site clearly gives off more light than my kit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Clive:confused:

LEE69
24-10-2009, 20:37
H7 is the bulb type and we have reflector lights in standard headlights.

Leave that cover alone, i don't think they ar eavailable separate, so meaning new headlights.

You have the right kit, just not giving the beam you want.

sorry back again,
looking on the recommended site and want to make sure i get correct bulbs for door (puddle).
would these be correct?

really confused as if they will be straight swap or i need a holder or what.
what is diff between the 212 211 39mm & just the 39mm ones? as the prices also vary.

thanks.

LEE69
07-11-2009, 16:02
No idea on the other numbers or what they mean.
The puddle light will pull out then you can measure the length of the bulb but tbh the 3mm diffierence is nothing and can be taken up by a slight bend of the connector (sounds harder than it is)

oldman
07-11-2009, 16:19
cheers lee,
i'm more than happy to take it out, (removed door cards to fix known leak issue), but don't want to waste money if not a straight swap as the pics don't really show how they connect and if i should need holders (if not what do they do exactly!)

sod it, only £4 each so will order a couple and see what happens

LEE69
07-11-2009, 16:23
A festoon is held in by the tension of the contacts from which it gets the power.

oldman
07-11-2009, 16:41
right thanks, so not that different to a normal bulb then!
just different in that 18 mini brighter led on them opposed to normal filament type (guessing here)

LEE69
07-11-2009, 16:43
No the casing of the bulb is the same just the leds are bloody brighter lol

oldman
07-11-2009, 17:14
big thanks lee, understand better now.

just removed & it is about 37mm, so will order a couple of 36mm and push inwards a little the holding bars.

cheers again

oldman
24-11-2009, 15:12
for the doors / puddle lights, i would suggest getting 39mm as opposed to 36mm.
you need to bend the arms in and these don't seem to hold the led festoon very well.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I ordered 42mm festoons for the rear numberplate lights as recommended above and they do not fit.

I know people say that you can use bigger ones if it's only a mm or two, but they are much too big and do not stay in the holders at all.

I now have two bulbs I need to get rid of and two more i need to buy.

FYI the roof lining/rear interior lights are T5s - they fit perfectly after a slight trimming with a scalpel ;)

It's okay, I've got the issue sorted for myself, but what I'm saying is that I don't think anyone else should have to go through it. All we need to do is change the first post in the thread and it won't happen to anyone else. It's not a major issue for me, but it was inconvenient and could have been avoided.

I've replaced all but the rear clusters and the rear passenger interior bulbs (T5 Neo from what I've seen). All sourced from UltraLEDs.

Anyone know where you can get the rear passenger bulbs? I did have a pair ordered but they're supposedly coming from Hong Kong. Been 3 weeks now.

Incidentally, my number plate bulbs are 39mm. I'm thinking of purposefully breaking one of the LEDs on each bulb because they're too bright!

LEE69
04-03-2010, 07:59

Yeah, mine aren't that bright! I might mask off all but the centre of 3 LEDs in each festoon and spray it black. Should dim it damn by about, ooh, 33%. Should be alright then.

I'm really pulling my hair out over the rear passenger lamps though. I got some T5 Neo bulbs from Hong Kong, but they are utter rubbish. For anyone thinking about it, don't bother. I'm looking around for components to weld in the gap for a brighter white light in the back instead of a dim blue tinge. If anyone's got any advice, that would be great.

hmmm, sure i will find a way.

what is the exact kit you have? is it the dianneshop one?

LEE69

Wouldn't recommend diane-shop to much bad publicity about them.
You need H7 for dipped and H1 for main beam.

I have been upgrading all my interior bulbs and numberplate ones to LED's. I am struggling to find some LED bulbs that match the colour of 4300k HIDS. I have already gone through 3 different ones in 2 weeks! They are either too blue or too yellow. I just want one that is in between the others I have already tried.

I have had some luck with T5's though. I initially bought some from the ebay seller warden_jp2000 (excellent seller) but thought they were dim. Then I had another look on ebay and found these T5's (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320497489721&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT). These are much brighter!

how easy do those replace the existing ones marshyc?
i know people have said about trimming down to fit, and not keen on tht.

Chester

marshyc: I made the same mistake. Still got one T5 Neo from warden_jp and it's like a dim blue.

Thing is, after the UltraLEDs in the front, and bearing in mind that the bulb fits at 90 degs in the lamp holder, I've decided to do something a little different - solder in a direct LED assembly. I've only just ordered the parts (in the last 5 minutes) so I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm also having the same issue with the LED wedge bulbs for side lights; they're slightly too blue against the Xenonmax H7s I have. They're these (http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/ultimate-501t10194-watt-ultra-xenon-white-p-1677.html) from UltraLEDs. Which ones did you try that were a little too yellow? They might work quite well with the Xenonmax bulbs.

This post (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=2878815&postcount=3) includes pics of a modified G4 LED array made to fit in the rear passenger lamp. Some cutting, soldering and gluing is necessary to get this to fit, but I think it's worth it.

fitted the front interior light leds today, the 501's are great but the festoon one is shite, glows like a green colour when you look through the cover,

number plate lights gone in too, only to find the muppet who sprayed my rear bumper sprayed over the light lenses so cant see the brightness
so ordered 2 more from seat, came to £12 so not too disappointed.

for anyone upgrading the bulbs dont buy this, get a different one but same size.

i know people have said about trimming down to fit, and not keen on tht.

You do have to trim them a little bit but it's only like 1-2mm on the little lugs that hold it onto circuit when you twist them in. It's noting to worry about and worth the effort.

Which ones did you try that were a little too yellow? They might work quite well with the Xenonmax bulbs.

They are the 5 LED tower ones from warden-jp. The warm White ones although I have just got the xenon ones for interior and they seem pretty White. Although most of em do until you put them next to the HID's!

Glovebox - 1 x 36mm festoon
Boot - 1 x 42mm festoon
Puddle - 4 x 39mm festoon (or two if you have a 3 door)

Sorry, I must have miscalculated! This is the list:

Sidelights - 2 x W5W wedge bulbs
Glovebox - 1 x 36mm festoon
Boot - 1 x 42mm festoon
Puddle - 4 x 39mm festoon (or 2 bulbs if you have a 3 door)
Numperplate - 2 x 39mm festoon
Rear Courtesy lights - 2 x T5 bulbs
Front Courtesy lights - 2 x W5W bulbs & 39mm(?) festoon

I worked it out to be $55.29 inc P&P which is still only £35.28 :)

Here's the shopping cart so you can see which bulbs I chose

Thanks for all your help mate, just got ordered, worked out to about 28 quid for mine, I didnt need number plate bulbs or sidelights though so thats why its abit cheaper, how long do you expect pistage to take, the only other thing is I ordered a 39 for the glovebox, have seen a mixture of 36 and 39 as the size needed, just wait and see if its right now!!! :-)

Amjad
31-10-2010, 14:39
No worries :)

Seeing as it's from China probably around 2 weeks or so I'm guessing?

I think the glovebox is the only one that can't take a larger bulb, so I ordered a 36mm

The LED bulbs with multiple SMD's, such as this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320703873882&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) for example. Do they cause any problems or are they more fail to break/die? Also do they fit in the bulb holders and are the self contained ones, within a glass tube better or no different?
