View Full Version : VAG-COM arriving tomorrow
And I was wondering what blocks should I be looking at. I've checked the VAG-Com page and it points me to the workshop manual, which funnily enough I don't own. Does anybody know what blocks would be of interest or have a workshop manual stashed in their garage that they could photocopy ( for backup purposes only ) and perhaps distribute those pages to me for safe keeping in the event that you lost your only copy in a nuclear strike.
Hope you have a serial port on your pc !
Came into some money and decided to go USB
Have you seen that (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/m_blocks/) ? It is not for Seat, but could be similar...
The thing is to find Seat Service Manuals... anyone has/knows how to get that ?
Just realized that it is for gasoline cars :D Anyway some blocks could be valid.
Sorry for double posting, I just pressed edit and it took me to new post...
Thanks I'll have a play and see what I can come up with. Failing that I'll ram raid the local dealership to get their manuals.
BEWARE !
Richard down at Revo showed me VAG-COM when I was there before chrimbo and warned me that if I ever use it not to go into the airbag module as VAG-COM will blow the airbag module in most cases needing replacement by your dealer. Also note that the airbag section in VAG-COM is easily accessed by accidently double clicking from the main screen as your mouse pointer is is left over the airbag button.
Just thought this might be useful to you Simon.
Its a known bug and its listed on the vag-com website. Richard told me the same thing. The claim to have fixed it in the beta version which I'll have to use for the USB support, Even so I think i'll steer well clear of the airbags.
So is the VAG-COM compatible with TDi then?.. what sort of things can be changed?
Haven't really had much of a chance to play yet. The number of options is just overwhelming. Im trying hard to find info on what I suposed to do and which blocks to monitor when driving.
If you need some help with Vag-Com e-mail 'smithrc' on here or on SE.
He has Vag-com on his laptop, he used it on my car & a mates Passat TDI (to check if his MAF was knackered which it was)
Thanks I might just do that.

What kind of things are you hoping to do with the VAG-COM
Is it just for fault diagnosis?
On anoter tack, i am thinking of getting the switchblade key, has anyone had one made for the Beezer? Is it possilbe.
Prob should put it on another thread, but my time here might be limited!!!!
Switchblade key: Toxxin has one for his.
Vag-com: Haven't had any faults to diagnose yet. Would like to check performance stats and check the airflow in the short term. Long term I would really like a complete breakdown of the blocks used by VW on their diesel ecus and see what I can play with.

Buy a spare ECU and practise on it first!!!!!!:D

Thats totally pish, tight @ss car company!!!
Even my toyota comes with 2 remote keys, come to think of it so does just about every other car in the Universe!!!!
Will have to speak to the dealer about that...Looks like i might get that Switchblade key after all. See if the dealer will bend abit!!
After all i could just go crazy mad and get a 320dSE. Well thats what i will tell him anyway!!
but if you only get 1 remote key.. does the alarm go off if you open the doors manually?
Being a vag.com virgin and a total technophobe what can I gain from it? I'm not bothered about diagnostics but is it better than performance meters for 0-60 etc. and power claims?
Is it pis* easy to use? As this would be handy, please tell me more. Oh, is it a dear do?
Its dead expensive but doe tons of stuff. Most of it is self explanatory but there is an awful lot of stuff that I haven't figured out yet. check www.vag-com.co.uk for more info.
So do SEAT dealers have vag.com or a different set up?
Will they be able to tell me what power my car is kicking out without the use of a rolling road?

I think the door lock disables the alarm rather than the remote 'plip' (VAG lock weakness, anyone?). I've never used my non-remote key though. It must have a chip in it for the immobiliser though, otherwise the car wouldn't start.
My wife's very late (V-reg) Mk2 has 2 remote keys BTW Rage.
Surprised at that. Neither of my mk2s had 2 remote keys.
one R reg and one T reg .
I think if you use the non remote key, you get 15 seconds from opening the door to turn the ignition on before the alarm goes off.

Either way its a very poor show on Seats part, both my self and my wife will use the car, so i will have to get another remote key!! Suppose that gives me the excuse to get the switchblade key....
