View Full Version : Insurance-thatcham approval
A few people have now asked me about How do you get confirmation
regarding proof of the vehicles immobiliser thatcham rating.
Well if your having insurance probs like me:
Simple visit www.thatcham.org
Think it has most modern vehicles on it,hope this helps
I thought an immobiliser could only be Cat 2? Alarms can be up to Cat 1, no?

Think youv'e hit the nail on the head!
But there again "most" insurance companies only require a
cat 2 immobiliser!

Less windows to break, and less doors to force open? :dunno:

no the 5 door is safer,
but that means there are 2 extra doors to break into:confused:

Hi,
I've looked at the link but what I really need to know is where to get a Immobilser Certificate for my Seat Ibiza Cupra Y-Reg, it is for Tesco Insurance.
Any help would be appreciated.

Garth and others have posted about tesco/immobiliser stuff.
basically tesco are idiots, and refuse to accept its factory fit.
Seat tried speaking to tesco, but tesco wont do anything without a letter :bleh:
try another insurance company? :)

Thanks for the info,
Tesco say they wont insure me against theft or attempted theft until I get a Certificate. They told me to go to a SEAT dealer for the certificate, I did and after much head scratching later --nothing :(
I'll try my local alarm fitter on tuesday, looks like I'll to have sleep in my car until then.

Managed to get Seat UK to issue a letter of Thatcham 2 confirmation, got the Thatcham code. Phoned Tesco insurance up and they said the Manufacturer's word wasn't good enough and I would still have to get a Certificate for the Thatcham Approved Immobiliser.
5 Mins of babbling and no result :(
2 Mins of me losing it :censored:
Result no documents needed, totally covered on Insurance

Is it true that if your car is insured through Tesco, like mine, that your insurance isn't valid on Tesco's premises i.e. car parks of aforementioned company. I've heard this from a couple of sources but can't find anything in the small print. Could anyone help?
try talking to tesco's parent company for help(directline),may get some sense from them,i remember danny helping me out with tesco way back when ;) basically if you haven't got one from the thatcham webby ,you have no chance with tesco,my car missed thatcham rating by 1 year, even though it used the same one that was later thatcham rated.cost me 80 quid of me own dosh ,that i got half back from tesco cos they fuct up,my advice?use someone else.i have stayed with tesco for the pure fact that they managed to reduce my insurance this year(first time ever)and i hate p1$$ing about getting quotes and sorting DD out
i had the same problem when i got my ibiza, so because i fit alarms for a living, i worte a letter on head letter paper explainging this was the immobliser fitted quoting the thatcham eqaluation number and that i had evaluated the immobiliser i.e. the fitting and model number ( which i didn't) but a factory immobiliser is a nightmare to bypass without a spare key hanging aroung, but i did test to see if it worked by taking the chip out of the key and they accepted it, i felt sorry for the girl i spoke to there caus i know about these thing caus it's part of my job, she had to go and ask someone every minute becuase i kept on correcting her, and thank god after a week of messing around they acpeted it had an immobiliser
