View Full Version : kriso's 240bhp Ibiza Cupra
I thought I would start a thread about my Ibiza and any mods as I do them so here goes...
I'm now on my 2nd Cupra. The first one was a PD160 which I had as a lease car from my old job. Here is a pic
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/CupraFront.jpg
'07 Black Magic Ibiza Cupra PD160 - No mods apart from Green Cotton panel filter.
I had to give up this little beauty after switching jobs but missed it so much I brought another, older one; 20vt this time ;)
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/Cupra_Front.jpg
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/Cupra_Back.jpg
The first difference I noticed from the old TDI was the difference in sound! The 20vt is sooo much quieter than the PD160 engine. It only really gets louder when you really rev it, and this took some getting used to after always changing gear around 3000rpm :p
The First Mod
Green Cotton Performance filter element from my previous Cupra. 2 minute job and not really sure of the difference as this went in almost straight after I picked up the car :)
LCR Splitter
£17 well spent from the stealers. I just sawed off the ends and screwed it into the bumper. It was a little fiddly to get it mounted in the right place and I think the front is a bit further back than others I have seen but is is symmetrical and I think it looks good.
Headlights
I got myself some Philips BlueVision bulbs for the dipped headlights and sidelights. After alot of fiddling (and dropping a metal clip down into the front bumper ), I got the dipped ones fitted. Didn't get around to doing the sidelights until a couple of weeks later as this involved taking the front bumper off in order to remove the clusters and get access to where they would go. It jsut seemed easier to do it this way than risk dropping the bulbs or breaking something.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/bumper_off.jpg
Air Intake
Trying to squeeze some more performance (and noise) out of the car, I decided to attempt smoothing out the air box and front intake bit. First I removed the trumpet in the air-box and then attacked the front intake using a drill and a pair of pliers to remove some of the restrictive plastic from it.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00143.jpg
I've since tidied this up using a Dremel, and the air box is partly done but I don't have the patience to spend too long doing it :D I'll come back to it another time to finish it off.
P-Torque remap :D :funk:
Had to be done really...I did the 400 mile round trip to get a P-Torque stage 1 remap. It was well worth it! The car pulls more like the old PD160 did but without the endless gear changing needed to keep accelerating. It is a really smooth map and I would recommend it to anyone.
Forge 007P
This was more difficult to fit than I thought. Most of the time was spent trying to remove the clips and hoses from the old one. I found that going for a drive to warm the engine bay up made a big difference as the spring clips were easier to bend and the hoses slipped off more easily.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00155.jpg
N249 Bypass
I got myself some silicone vacuum hose from Forge and swapped a few hoses around to do this simple mod. Now I have a suttle noise from the 007P when lifting off the throttle. It doesn't sound chavvy like most dump valves too
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00156.jpg
I'm also slowly replacing the standard vacuum lines with the rest of the silicone hose I have.
That's it so far. Still to come are front Seat Sport strut brace and Whiteline rear ARB.

Nice amount of work done to the car matey in a short time!
Looks nice, got anything planned for styling? or all performance?
Thanks for all the comments..I really want coilovers to lower the car a little and get the side strips colour coded but don't want to attempt painting them! HID kit is tempting also.
Don't really want to spend anything on it for a while now tho as I'm skint lol
I fitted a Whiteline rear ARB the other day. It really improves the handling and feels alot flatter through corners and roundabouts now :funk:
I've done a guide to fitting it here (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152177).

Nice work! im definately going to get me one of those rear ARB's
Anymore pics Kriso? Id like to see some external pics of the car ;)
I really need to take some. The external pics above arent too good and were taken quickly the day after I got the car and I have been busy or it has been raining most days since! I might give it a wash and take some at the weekend :D
Well I finally took some pics today as the sun was kinda out...excuse the Photoshoppy ones :D

Just a quick update...I have fitted a S2000 aerial which looks alot better than the stock one.
Changed front brake discs and pads (Ferodo DS2500). The brakes are even better than standard Cupra ones now :D
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00191.jpg
Changed rear wiper for one of the newer Cupra ones and fitted aero ones on the front.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00195.jpg
Here's a pic of my strut brace I fitted a while ago now plus you can see more silicone vacuum hoses and N259 bypass.

Here's my new toy...a Scangauge 2.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s233/jaxkesa/DSC00208.jpg
I bought a blank DIN plate, cut a hole in it and stuck it in the dash. Im a bit disappointed it doesn't do boost on my car but the inlet temp and other values are nice.
I managed to puncture my tyre....and my alloy the other week  Thanks to a 6 inch iron bolt in the road [:@]

So I now have the spare on, but need to buy a new wheel and tyre (about £300 or so :()
I now have a Milltek cat-back :D :p Sounds much better than the standard exhaust but not too chavvy.

Hi mate great looking car, how much was the remap?
Stu :)
Cheers Stu, the remap was £225 as it was a special offer. But P-Torque regularly do discounts and things, take a look in the P-Torque forum on here

wow! thats very reasonable considering the power gains, really your car looks fantastic and i'm very jealous:cry:
Basically I don't own one yet but I do have £8000 sitting in the bank so any day now :)
My question is though whats it like to drive mate? when your doing say 70mph is it quite quiet?
I am in a very horrible position as I can't decide between the Civic type r (old shape) or the Ibiza you have!!
Problem is everyone has a type r and I don't want to look like a chav but I do want the reliability of the Honda engine, and I have a young daughter who would come with me from time to time so don't really want the boy racer look, Aghhhhhhh I can't decide what do you think any down sides to owning the cupra?
I'm worried that if I bought the civic I would get bored of thrashing it as I bet the Ibiza is much more smoother and quiet and better finished inside than the type r?
P.S sorry if this in the wrong area of the forums!
Comments?
Stu :)
I nearly brought a Type-R but I was worried about the chav look :) Someone at my work has one (and he isn't a chav) but he gets less MPG than I do. I've never been in one but they supposedley handle better than the Ibiza as I think the rear suspension is fully independant. The ride can be a bit harsh in the Cupra but coilovers can sort that out (if you are intending on spening more money on it). You have to rev the hell out of Type-Rs to get any power but the 1.8T's turbo gives you lots of power and torque throughout the rev range. And you can't use the VTEC capability until they have warmed up too.
There can be a bit of road noise in the mk4 Ibizas when cruising at say 70mph. But the engines are very reliable and there are alot of people who have VAG cars so can help if you do have problems and lots of spare parts available. I think servicing on Hondas is every 7,500 miles as opposed to 10,000 on Seats.
I would say test drive both to really compare the handling. Good luck!

29-03-2008, 20:10
Great thanks will try them both :)
Sorry to ask as its a bit cheeky what sort of price was your car? I don't mind if you don't want to answer, I have seen an 04 reg with 22k 1 owner full seat history and from a seat dealer with 2 year warranty! mint etc, etc, £8300 but will offer £8000 is that too much or a good price as they seem to fetch as much as the civics,
I paid £8700 from a non-Seat dealer. It is a 54 plate and had 16,000 miles on it when I got it. But they seem to have dropped in price recently, £8300 seems a little high for a 04 plate but the 2 year warranty is a nice bonus if it covers everything!

nice car mate
No updates for a while but I have since fitted a Forge TIP and boost gauge. More pics soon
Coming in next couple of weeks:
Milltek down pipe, sports cat and P Torque Stage 2 :cheeky:
Got the downpipe and cat fitted today and P-Torque Stage 2 and some runs on the rolling road.
240.2 BHP / 274.3 lb/ft :D
The car pulls like crazy now, but I'm waiting for some better conditions so I can really push it on the Parada Spec 2s which have so little grip in the wet! I'm not going to do anything more power wise as it would involve a big turbo and lots of $$$
Coilovers and rear spacers are next on the list when I've paid off some debts  And I'll get some new pics when it's not pissing it down outside so I can clean my car...
Nice results Kriso - 240 is more than adequate imo! lol :D
nice car mate, i am taking a liking to the mk4 ibiza cupras now, some nice work and results, im sure more to come?

liking the progression on the car....keep it up
ive got a yellow mk 4 cupra, (mods in sig) away getting the exhaust fitted on friday....was it a pig of a job to do the TIP looking into to doing that next plus prob the n249 bypass.
Thanks guys!
cupraajy - the TIP is a bit annoying but well worth it. N249 bypass is easy, I've had no problems and the DV sound is more noticeable but still doesn't sound over the top.

yeah...i think the bypass might be the next thing i do...something cheap coming up xmas!!!
Any guides one the forum on how to do it???
It pulls.....trust me.
Its fast but in a controlled way, defo recommended
(and I won't mention the roundabout..;) )
nice car bud, I'm nearly at the same stage as you :D Have you got any pics of the back of your car now you've had the downpipe and cat fitted? I fitted mine the other day and it rattled like hell on the brake line bracket on the rear axle so I took it to an exhaust place for them to adjust it and it turned out that I hadn't pushed the pipes together enough. Anyhow, they'te pushed the pipes together properly now and my exhaust sits so far under the bumper it can barely be seen :( I want it to stick out more but theres no hope without welding in a bit of extra pipe.
Keep up the good work anyways, hopefully my car will be as powerful as yours soon :)

Cheers, funny you should say that about the rattle! I'm getting a really annoying rattle on idle and when going into reverse and its worse when ppl are in the back. They had to take my cat back off and refit it again when I got downpipe fitted which they didn't seem to do very well I think. I haven't looked underneath the car to see what it's rattling on but I guess it is the same as yours. It doesn't stick out much but it didn't before I had the downpipe fitted either.
How much did you pay to get it fixed?
I'll try and get some pics but it's so dirty at the moment with all the crap on the roads!
I took some pics the other day after cleaning it, but my camera has corrupted and lost everything
Here's a pic of the dyno results anyway:

Yep, lets not forget you are comparing with/without full exhaust...
Once fitted, the turbo has less back pressure, and will therefore spool a little faster and stronger :)

I paid £20 for it to be put right at infinity exhausts. Thing is though, now the pipes are pushed together properly the tip sits miles under the bumper! :( shouldnt worry about the dirt lol, get sum pics up! I went to the world rally at the weekend and my car is in a right state but I havent had time to wash it yet..
I got the cam belt done today as it's just coming up to 4 years old (but still only 26k miles). JKM also fiddled with the exhaust and so far the rattle seems to have gone :D
Damoegan
15-12-2008, 18:35
Poo, I forgot about my cam belt needs doing next year too as mine is on a 54 plate (only 35K)..
Thought I best get it done before I forget :) It hurts paying out £300 for no noticeable improvement or performance increase etc. tho!
Damoegan
15-12-2008, 19:48
I can get it done for £50 pluss parts ;)
Nice :) I paid £144 for parts (G12 anti freeze, belt, tensioner, idler and metal impeller water pump).

Cool, it was just out of curiosity realy mate. What does your boost peak at?
(Still got standard headunit and gearknob I see ;))
I think it's around 22psi, it's round the top of the gauge so I can't really see it.
Standard head unit and knob are ok, I'm saving money for power ;)
Damoegan
29-12-2008, 22:05

More power, what you got planned mate? Big turbo?
Nah, coilovers and rear spacers next. I'm not going for any more power now, but wouldn't have been able to get the Stage 2 if I had wasted cash on a gear knob and head unit! I would like the round Seat Sport knob but think it's about £50 and I could get spacers for that!

Woah now! Glad mine's lowered! ;)
Red Ibiza's are nice.... :(
The back doesn't sit that high normally, its parked on un-even ground in that pic and that's what having my ARB on stiffest setting does..Will be lowered more soon tho :)

what's the estimated time of work you spend on you're car? must be nice, the power ......
I'm not sure about the time...probably not that much for the amount of improvements. The power is nice, the engine pulls from about 2000rpm all the way to redline and sounds like a beast :)

how's you're clutch and flywheel cooping(is that spelled correct?) with the truckload of extra power? I mean that i would use 300bhp if i would have 300bhp figure of speech. And i'm even having difficulty finding traction with my (at the moment) standaard cupra diesel.... Did you're strut brace feeled like giving more traction?
cheers
They are coping fine. The power delivery is smooth throughout the rev range, there is a noticeable pull when the turbo kicks in same as standard Cupra TDI but then it just keep pulling to the redline. I don't floor it in higher gears so clutch is treated well :)
I don't think the strut brace helps much but softer tyres do. I went from Toyo T1-R to Yokohama Parada Spec 2 and it has almost eliminated wheelspin in the dry. In the wet/ice they are useless and it will wheelspin in the first 4 gears, but now the roads are dry and warm they just work so well!

Nah I sold that on and got the boost gauge instead..really the only useful thing it showed was the intake temp..most other things were available on the dash/trip computer and no boost pressure :(
There are some better gagues out there that show things like 1/4 mile times etc. which look good.

Ah, ok mate. What other gauges have you been looking at?

Liquid Gauge does some good stuff but a little expensive. There is another similar one, but I forget where I saw it now. :)
I've now switched to a LCR 225 (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?p=3005305) :)
