Just had a very good experience with the Halfords own brand alloy wheel spray cleaner. Does a good job of getting some of the crap off that wash and wax simply can't do.
And to get into all the nooks and cranies i'd recommend buying the alloy cleaner brush. About £2-3 and it's brilliant for scraping gunk out of the tight corners.
My alloys are now imaculate, well they where before i drove the car along the motorway.
