View Full Version : Leon Tdi 150
Asked Seat UK if there were any plans for the Leon TDI 150 BHP to be released in the UK, using the contact thingy on their website. This was their reply :
Thank you for your e-mail of 17th March 2003. Please accept our apologies
for the delay in replying.
We can confirm that we are always in discussion with our Spanish factory to
introduce a variety of specifications into our model range, however at
present we have no plans to introduce an 150ps engine into the Leon range.
Please keep visiting our website www.seat.co.uk as this is updated on a
regular basis, therefore as soon as any decisions have been made to
introduce new specifications, this information can be located on our site.

I was hoping tht it would be in the pipeline !!!!
Oh well.
Do you really think they would tell you even if it is in the pipeline. They'll save that kind of news for a special unveiling and probably not until after the beezer 150 has been released which should give some idea of how well it will do in this country. Of course by that time the Tango will be near to unveiling and you may find that they'll wait for that.
Alot of people have been waiting for the 150pd engine in the leon/toledo. I've heard this every since I've been on the forum.
If you haven't got it by now I seriously dought you ever will. Might as well wait for the 2.0l 16v engine due out this summer.

Prob very true, wait for the new engine as it will prob be a good bit better. Only trouble is how long before Seat get it....Will VW hold on to it of a year while Seat and Skoda use up any stocks of 1.9!!
Not that i care it will be 5 years before i will be looking for a new motor!
However speaking to one of the guys at my local dealership....He did mention that u can order th 130BHP Leon now Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I know the 2.0 16V 140hp is coming out in June on the new A3. Adding another 6 months , I guess Seat will probably not get any til 2004.:(

Should be a really good engine, as the game has moved on quite abit since VW revolutionised it with the 90bhpTDI 1Z...
There no excuse, if its not atleast as good as ther BMW 2.0 td..

the 150PD engine is as good as the bmw 2.0l. I would only think the 2.0l VAG to be better.
Euro Continental Cars can get you a Leon 150 TDI... nice.
I have heard that a Leon Diesel will be coming out in the spring with the PD 130 engine and that a TDi R will be coming out with 180 BHP by the end of this year.

It's Porto!;)
IMHO I believe the VAG 1.9l to be better than the 2.0l dieel bmw engine.
I have test drive a BMW 320d and was very impressed, alot smoother than the VAG TDi and quiter as well.
Onlt test drove it as my wife was buying a BMW Compact and went for the 316 ES as the 320d may be an excellent diesel but it comes a cost:eek:

Fair enought but you will be in a minority of one. The BMW 2.0d is prob the best all round diesel engine ever made, according to every road test ever done ever anywhere in the world. Lets face it the 1.9tdi is well over 10years old now. I dont think even a VW board member could say that the 1.9 tdi was better than the bmw 2.0d with a straight face.

I've read quite a few reviews on the new A3 (thought about getting one until i went for a test drive in the Leon Cupra), most reckon that the 2.0 diesel is good but not as good as it should and could have been. They also said that the BMW 2.0 diesel is still better. One diesel that should be good is the new 2.4 (5 pot) JTD in the Alfa 156 - 180 BHP, 280 lb/ft.
hmmm the 3.0 litre BMW diesel is my favourite.... bit of a beast

Not half, they (BMW 330 D) put up a bit of a fight against a standard Leon Cupra such as mine!
THE diesel to have though has got to be the one in the new VW Toureg - 5 litre V10! 300+ BHP, 500+ lb/ ft!!! I wonder if they will every release a Leon Cupra with one on those in? That might be quite interesting!!!!!!! :D
See what Revo could do with that!
yeah but only 17mpg.... rather have the 40 odd from the 330d :D

Good point and it would probably pull the front end of the car off. The 330D is probably the best diesel engine out there for all out grunt, economy and tuning possibilities. I race Landrovers offroad and a friend of ours has the 2.5 6pot BMW diesel. He's done all sorts and it runs at about 300+ BHP with obout 450 lb/ft. Trust me it goes quite well (At the moment he's not far off some of the 5.0 Supercharged V8's that race with us)! He's now on about the possibility of the 3.0 BMW and reckons that will be seriously fast.
yep, totally agree Ali.
I have just traded my Cupra in for a 320d ES saloon. The 320d engine is awsome for a diesel. No more noisey than my Cupra and 50mpg and ultra smooth it really does feel like a petrol.
Intend to get it chipped as well to 180Bhp and 390nm of torque, about the same as the old 330d but 100kg lighter so should be fun!!
But why oh why could I have not brought a 150TDi Cupra:mad:
Looks like you have just lost out Seat!!

I think the most impressive thing about all of the above is that someone actually got a response after e-mailing SEAT UK!!!!!!! Good work fella! :)
I reckon you will get a leon tdi 150 in rhd when the golf gets the new 2.0 tdi. (just like the leon cupra r got the 225 engine as soon as the S3 was stopped being produced).
Well orginally the 150TDi was going to be released in Dec, but it now seems like it has been called off. Instead there is talk of the Leon replacment being realesed at the end of next year.
The 150TDi looks like it will only appear in the Ibiza Cupra R, and that is not due untill Summer next year. VAG will probably do what they did with the 210 1.8T and let Seat run stocks down untill it is replaced by the new 2L 16v engine.
This is most annoying part about Seat lack of proper info. They may have just lost a customer because of it. If the TDi was coming I may of hung on and waited. But seeing as they won't give me a firm answer I have brought a BMW 320d ES instead:mad: Saving me about £50 month on insurance and fuel.
