View Full Version : Lime Pickle Latest Mods
Hi
Finally finished stripping sound deadening tar-like stuff out and the grand total was 6.6kg.
Yesterday, the ABS system and all metal brake pipes were junked. The old system was a split diagonal system - eg front passenger rear driver operated by the same line. Now there is a front/rear split system with an adjustable rear bias valve fitted. Bias valve is fitted near gearshift and can be adjusted from drivers seat when strapped in. All new lines run inside the car. This arrangement also means the 'pipe count' is much less - ABS plumming is very complicated. Less pipes and no ABS unit = less weight - not weighed yet but got to be 10kg and over the front of the car where its not wanted. Engine bay looks more tidy now also.
Blyton will be test to set up bias.
Ave it
Rob
Next job is to strip the paint off ;) Must be some weight to lose there :D

A-la-new jaguar - polished ali - very nice, bare steel may not last long though in our tropical british weather
More airfield days needed - that will strip the paint off the front of the car and have fun at the same time :D

Not wishing to upset but is this permitted unde the regs for the Curborough Sprint Championship you're entered for? I know that bias valves that can be adjusted on the move are only permitted in certain classes under the regs of many a sprint championship... Although as most of the interior is missing and a 9A was never an OE engine in a mk2 Ibiza, i'd guess you'll be running in mod prod which may allow a bit more latitude?
Playing the regs... Don't ya just love it???

You've just gota loose the 2.1 kg of underseal under each wheel arch, and 4.6kg under the floor pan now!
a job that it tedious with a capital T!
(also if you are really keen run down each chassis rail under the floorplan with a blow tourch and watch 3kg of cavity wax drip onto the floor!)
:p

Hi G
Nice to see you are up with these things - I will be running in mod prod yes - more as a result of the lack of interior than anything else, suspect the block would be thought of as original 'type' and anyhow the engine number is missing (it has a BRM engine number). A 2L engine was fitted originally to the Mk2 (ok a ABF rather than 9A) but its in the spirit of the rules. May be more of an issue if it was a national champs...
Valves that can be operated when moving are banned in this class also - it will be fitted with a cover when it comes to race time.
Because of the lack of interior and my wish to run on List 1B tyres, it would be mod prod straight away. I am not taking full advantage of the mod prod regs however which allow quite a lot of mods, suspension pickups etc, sequential boxes......this is what happens when you have a car already and not build one specifically.

Doing the job inside the car was bad enough - I think I'll leave this and try and get more easy savings first - what have you done with your rear side and hatch windows ? - was thinking lexan but the side ones arn't that amenable to this as they are inset from the bodywork..

Indeed - if you want the best toys for the doing the job, you need to build it to the rules. It's all about exploiting the loopholes. And as I implied earlier, a lot depends on the specific rules of the specific championship. For example, ASWMC sprint championship has this to say about tyres for Standard Production class:
"f) TYRES.
Any radial ply tyre is allowed which is fully Road legal and capable of acceptance by an Annual Department of Transport Vehicle Inspection (MOT Test). Tyres marked 'Racing Purposes Only', or similar wording are not allowed. Cross ply tyres are not allowed."
No mention of List 1A, 1B or anything conventional like that!

I'm currently running std glass all round my car - it'd heavy though, but fits well and is safe (i have some doubts about lexan etc. in an accident spliting into large sharp shards rather than shattering!) i think for the full EVO2 spec of my car we will end up with lexan all round and a CF tailgate to go along with it. The rear side windows could be easily made out of lexan, just cut accurately, bond in with windscreen adhesive, having first sprayed a nice black border 2" deep on the inner side so it looks OEM and hides the glue. They are not too curved so i don't think this would be a problem.
If you want to find weight, take a door off - they are heavy!! - i'm going to cut most of it away and make some CF inner pannels, just gota decide whether to leave e-windows, manual winders or just bin the lot and go for lexan with sliders.
There's also around 5 kg of unecessary bracketry for rear belts, seats etc that can come off with a grinder.
I'm also going to do a Kevlar bonnet for my car, i'm sure i could sort out a std fitting bonnet without my large vents if other people wanted one.
oh you've gone and done it now max, mentioning kevlar bonnets :D
/methinks you will lose a hand when rob bites it off

Bin all the electric windows etc and go with sliders !
I am very interested in a lightweight bonnet without vents - keep me posted - any weight saving from the front end is a high priority.
Cheers
