View Full Version : Toledo Mod Idea's
Guy's
My car is not going yet but thought I would run this past you too.
Since having the car I have been toying with the idea of smartening it up.
9/10 I decided against due to the price of mabour to fit kits etc etc. I am looking for simple east to do, cheap ways of making this handsome car look like a non chav 25 year old guys owns it.
It is a standard Black 1.8 20 v Mk 2, with the horrible alloys with circular holes, so thinking of 17"s would look ok. The rear end always annoys me with that big fat reflector and I always thought a spoiler would look ok but then saw how much to prime pain and fit it is. I also dont think a spoiler alone works as it makes the back end look high and your into "i think i need skirts territory".
I am not a chav. I am a manager in an office, but I am still young and want to style both the interior and exterior properly without speanding too much or making it look cheap and nasty.
Thoughts?

front splitter? 17 or 18 rs6 alloys or the alloys off an r32? get a carbon fibre single wing spoiler 4 it. that way paint is not needed for a spoiler
tint the windows as wel, light brows, de badge it.
i've got a tdi toledo n its not 2 dun up but it looks wel.
Nice set of wheels, big drop, a bit of colour coding and you're sorted :)

yeah colour coding the rubbing strips will make the car a lot neater looking
this will give you some ideas too

Cupra front, Cupra Skirts;)
17" rims and lower by 30-40mm....or she will look a bit high!
Colour code is a brilliant idea...although...make sure you get it done Properly!!!
Spoiler...Seat Sport one is 60 quid and comes primed...and is easy to fit...;)
TT peddle rubbers, W8 interior light...
Deffo stay OEM....dont max power it to much! my old car was subtle and could only tell it was vastly different when it was next to another standard tolly....(ok so the real enthusiasts could tell without another car, but joe blogs couldnt)

now that, i like.quite subtle,bet it cost a few quid though :(
cheers,
i had her from July 2003 (while ago now..)......sold in Sept 07.........
wasnt all done in one go so it spread the cost, but looking back (although it was a big hobby and i enjoyed it) it did cost.
I think the next car i will have, i will get something you can play with the engine...
the 1.8 20v was ok...but couldnt do anything to it for any real power gain...
i found these the other day....its an interesting comparison...the rear badges were the first thing i changed......but the problem is that it is VERY addictive!
I wait with baited breath for the next saloon style car that Seat bring out...if they ever see sense...(cordoba not included) :)

I done quite a few of the same mods that Sam had done and was really happy with mines. Toledo can have a few subtle mods and look very nice indeed.
I miss my Toledo, sort of wish I got another instead of the Ibiza but I like the Ibiza too... two different classes of car IMO!

:D
I liked the colour of your tolly CHR15B....
i like your plate too....
deffo understand what your saying bout the beezer..my other half has one...and although it is faster (FR) it just wasnt the Tolly...
He is selling it now as well to join me out here...will get another Seat eventually! just need to decide which one!
Deffo like the brushed Aluminium interior (was yours sprayed or the stick on kit) i looked at the kit in the dealer but at £115 i thought it a bit to much....
I had a lot of comments about my painted calipers....too max power...but i liked them...i think with Silver Alloys it was needed...it really added that little bit of colour that was needed!
There is a really nifty roof spoiler too...that was my next plan but never got it...its by MS Design i think...there is a Gold tricked up tolly on here that has it. looks the muts...
Advice about doing it up...deffo think about your handling....already been said about lowering it as standard feels like a ship on the sea, and some 17"...(high suspension and those high profile tyres make her floaty...hahaha)
Sort your bushes....you wont look back...powerflex rock!!!!
My centre console cover was just sprayed, was done very well too! :)

and heres my ideas http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g98/toledotdi/IMG_3303.jpg
ms designs front and rear skirts ,seat spoiler on boot 18 " alloys http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g98/toledotdi/IMG_3306.jpg
Those are nice wheels mate, similar to the Audi RS6 ones but a little different. :)
Perhaps this be the Gold tricked up Tolly Sam mentions?:-
Originally looked like this:-
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd102/kewe1874/d745_27.jpg
The previous owner then done some mods and it ended up like this:-

Think I prefer the rear boot spoiler Silver Surfer, CHR15B etc have though!
Also wondered if tints would suit or look a bit chavvy?
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd102/kewe1874/Tolly_tints.jpg
Mate you have the nicest Toledo I've set eyes on! I dunno about the rear bumper but I know there isn't a lot you can do with that.
If you ever wanna swap for a TDI 130 Ibiza then give me a shout! ;)

Cheers Mate.
LOL the swap, think i've done enough of them for one year. That's how I got the car in the first place when I swapped it for my MG ZS 180. In any case I really love this car to bits, it drives like a dream and being the 170 V5 has plenty of poke to go with the looks. I know what you mean about the rear though, I think both Leons and Toledos look poor from that angle.
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd102/kewe1874/DSC00100.jpg
That be it!!!:D
i like the roof spoiler LOTS! finishes the rear...
not much you can do with the rear bumper IMO...colour coding is about it for the subtle look....otherwise you are into the realms of in yer face kits. The MS design offering isnt too bad.....
I deffo prefer the seat sport spoiler as you say....
God the tolly is a sexy motor with just a few mods to help it on its way.....
a few?!?!? i bet you're into a couple of grand for the work you have done(inc wheels and suspension)
a few?!?!? i bet you're into a couple of grand for the work you have done(inc wheels and suspension)
 HMmmmm yeah spose so.
Wheels 1K
eibachs £500
bushes £109
without the other stuff...
but for a cheaper option (not at all ideal but possible)...could go for lowering springs only...and you dont have to go for expensive 17" to make an improvement. but.............unfortunately its addictive, huh......just cant stop!

Looking back at some of your posts it was a shame about your Toledo, really nice colour that was! Don't suppose you still have the W8 light? Still 50MPG is fantastic and i'm sure the Ibiza can shift too plus with all the mods you've done it looks excellent.
Yeah I really like the Ibiza but the Toledo is in a different league altogether - it has the comfort the class factor the Ibiza doesen't.
Who know's ... I might still get my hands on a Toledo TDI SE PD130 one day! ;)
KEWE,is that an additional colour to the original? looks much richer than any other "gold" ones i have seen.some of it i like alot, rear boot spoiler and R splitter not so.
the leon cupra bumper looks much better left alone. IHMO of course ;)

Hope not
The original photo was taken by the previous owner I think using a phone camera. The Modded ones are taken once I had the car with a fairly good camera and after a good wash with meguiars which gives it a nice deep shine. That's the only thing I can think it might be. Agree the boot spoiler is pretty pants but probably better than no spoiler for now. Still like the splitter though. [B)]

Mine has a Neo-Design kit on it, running it on 20" alloys, tinted windows, still got a few bits to do, was looking at rear window spoiler, but they are really expensive, but you can understand why i want one, just look at Kewe's on his car, looks awesome.
We with the Toledo's, in league of our own, not many around and once modded up, they really stick out, so lets hear it for the Tolly boys and girls
Oh by the way left you a picture of my Tolly when i first bought it :D
There's a few interior mods that I think are worth looking at. Changing gear knob not only looks better but has a much better feel. Cupra R pedals, custom dead pedal plates, stainless sill guards, W8 light. Lifehammer fits nicely in the lid of the armrest too, oh and leather handbrake cover.

W8 light!!! dont forget the W8 light!!! :D

Was a doddle mate :)
Open the ashtray and look inside you'll find one philips screw - remove that and lift out the ashtray disconnecting the power and light source.
You'll now see two Torx T20 screws - remove them.
Remove the radio and once removed you'll find another two Torx T20 screws - remove them also.
Working from the bottom, pull the fascia away from the centre console and work the top away also - the bit under the vents can be a little tight but with some paitence it'll pull away no problems.
Hope this helps, Chris.

Some nice ideas here, thanks.
Have anyone wired the car for amped front speakers/power cables etc? does the toledo come apart go back together easily enough?
And also is there an easy passage through the firewall for the power cable to the battery?

budget didn't stretch that far for us,and we want rid of the vrs quickly so gone for a 110.

hahaha no probs....
Cupra front i got from ebay. as i remember it came with upper grills, was platinum grey and didnt have a mark on it...i got it for 200 squid. then spray was on top....they are like rocking horse poo on there, but sometimes they come up!
was chuffed it was grey as i had a bumper sprayed before for an escort....it was black and as it chipped (stones etc) it looked bloody aweful!
midcuk, that is really really nice. Like the little v5 badges under indicators too. Somehow it seems to capture the classy side of the v5 plus the sporty side.
Must get me some v5 badges. Noticed on ebay some have a red #5, is that to differentiate the 150 from the 170 or is it for another manufacurer?
I need to unsubscribe from this or I'll end up buying another!
I'd love a PD130 Toledo too, such a well spec car with reasonable power.

got my silver ones from the stealer mate, they did have red v's as well if i recall, quite pricey though for what they were.

not sure mate it was a while ago i think it was about £16 for the pair.
and yes thats me just swopped the v5 for a 180 kinda the opposite way round to you mate :)
didnt want the v5 to go loved the car but it had to :(

Cheers for the info, sounds like a decent price.
It's a MkII 180 U have? How do you like it compared to the v5?
Two completely different cars in terms of power delivery and the ZS is way quicker, but I love the smootheness and low down torque of the v5. It's amazing how quick you get used to the power difference though, felt a lot more than just 10BHP to begin with though.
what made you get rid of the v5 if you dont mind me asking?
guys,do the CUPRA honeycombe bonnet grilles fit with the standard grille/bumper? i just don't get the vertical/horizontal slats as standard.
you think they would look ok on a standard bumper(for now)

yeah a mk2 and power wise its a whole different league its a lot faster :), v5 suited me more though its dead lazy to drive and i miss the refinement it was so smooth (and used a lot less fuel :) ) good for the 30 min motorway car park on a morning, would of kept the v5 for life (got it new) but my home circumstances have changed and i was going to loose it anyway as its getting messy so thought may as well get rid quick and get another car i want / like instead of waiting for the courts and having to sell it and getting half of the money , glad my dad got a zs pity i dont have a car anymore:whistle:
yeah on paper they are similar but totally different to drive both brilliant but in totally different ways.
oh yeah the v5 was a much lower insurance group yet the zs is cheaper to insure go figure ?
Seen the threads yesterday, but could'nt make sense of it, thought you swopped your car for a Tolly Turbo 1.8, last few they made, what a crying shame, your V5 has gone Midcup, but at least you have a set of wheels, with all thats going on in your life, so have you sent it too a kind home, who's the lucky owner, KEWE knows about this he picked up a good buy with his, LOL and he knows it, for he loves he's V5 :D

You are so right. I have owned too many cars to mention, but included MR2, Subaru Impreza Turbo, Ibiza Cupra 20VT and ZS 180 - But guess which one I love the most - of course the V5. Have to say though the 180 is a brilliant car too and very under rated. Well suited to the more enthusiastic driver shall we say. I'm sure midcuk will enjoy his fathers immensely.
Kewe is that the 150 bhp sport model you have? I think I have the same one - have u had yours lowered or is that just the sport height? Midcuk - I really like those side-skirts and bumper, might get some of those. Need new wheels first tho - can't believe u paid 1k Sam! They are nice tho I might get some similar, but I'm not looking to go over £500 and want 17" :S

No m8 it's a standard 170bhp v5. Don't think it's been lowered but all the mods were done before I bought it.

At the time i bought those wheels (think it was 2001) they had just come out as a new OZ design and were lightweight racing alloys.....have a look in the shops i would imagine they are a lot cheaper than that now! (225/17" Superleggera)
It's in good hands Midcuk I bought it a couple of weeks ago, the work you've done on it makes it really stand out (thanks) and its amazing to drive - shame about the friggin dealer only offering you 3k [:@] It attracted a load of interest at the dealers show room but luckily all of the people interested in buying it struggled to get the finance whilst I went in and whacked a deposit down on it.

BIT OF A CHANGE AROUND WITH MY TOLLY, OFF WITH THE 20'S, BACK TO 19'S, LOWERED ON COILOVERS, STILL HAVE TO GET AND PUT ON REAR WINDOW SPOILER, SMALL COBRA DECALS ON SIDES AND REAR, THOUGHT IT DESERVED THE EXTRA COBRA IN ITS TITLE , STILL A FEW FINISHING TOUCHES TO DO, SO WHAT DO YOU THINK
It's looking good nak. I think that window spoiler on the back will finish it off nice. Must be very close to a completed motor now?

Nearly there, should have it finished this summer, just got to get that window spoiler and get it painted and put on, few other minor things, front fog lights and getting a better alarm for it, all money, just waiting for some better weather
Audi TT pedals now been fitted plus the V5 badges front and rear as the SEAT Sport ones began to rust

Thanks mate. They were about £30 delivered from VAG Parts which is cheaper than most go for on e-bay. Cannot get a direct link, but go into the Audi TT interior section and you'll see 'Pedal Rubbers'.

The photo really doesn't do them justice as it makes them look quite small
Really easy to fit, the old rubbers just pull off and the new ones just slip over the bare metal that is left - 10 min job.

Some nice looking Tollys there!
It's dangerous reading these threads as it makes me want to spend money, not done alot to mine as it's a daily hack (but I love it!) - slowly doing bits and pieces on a shoe string but I don't see it being worth spending loads on it, would rather save up a bit and get a good V5 or 20vt and mod that :D
Don't you worry mate, all started somewhere, took me a while to do my car up, something i wanted to do since my Teen's and i'm no where close to my Teen's now, :(, LOL, same problem for me always working on a budget, glad you like the mod's on the Tolly's.
KEWE, them dials look great, where did you get them from ?
As for the HID lights, look good, but are you going around blinding everybody with them, lol, because i seem to have this problem with vehicles that approach me with HID light's :drive1:
I got the dials from skewer.co.uk, custom made, took a while but I was pleased with the end results. These were the first set they had done for Leon/Toledo, so I worked with the guy to get them right fit and all.
Haven't had anyone flash me yet with the HID's though I know what you mean, they are so much brighter than standard Halogen therefore people tend to think you have full beam on. I think the important bit is to get the alignment sorted after you fit them. It is a fabulous mod though for the money, I cannot believe the difference in how much they light up the road. If you cannot beat them, join them ;)
Looking awesome mate, how did you get the twin exhaust to fit then [B)]
I like the way Nak has avoided answering the question! ;)
Did you start with a Miltek system and change the exit pipes?
BTW Kewe, feeling those dials. Nice touch with the V5 logo.

:D Naks probably too busy on his next project.
Yep really liking the dials thanks, gives it a personal touch.
These pictures maybe show them better lit too.
You can see the difference compared to the previous e-bay ones I had lol:-

Sorry, have been busy, your right Kewe, next project, nearly complete, bought a 1.8 Tolly turbo last year, needed engine replacement, only got 24k on the clock, old chap that had it, cracked his sump, lost his oil and still carried on driving it, basically wrecked engine and turbo, did get another engine with low mileage on it 28k, out of a Skoda Octavia vrs, so been working on engine and gearbox change, my mates got all the brains, but we have done it and started it,, just got trim and bumpers to put back on and now i'm stuck, what shall i do, got to Tollys now .
Anyway i'll get some pictures up of the exhaust, from underneath, showing the way it has been done, i never done it, exhaust place near me, for all to see, when i get chance, catch up with you soon ;), take care Tolly Boyz and Gals :)

There seems to be a distinct lack of decent Tolly back bumpers available out there. Lots of fronts because of all the Leon kits. JE design has a nice looking front, but only offers a naff carzone style 'skirt' to tag on the existing back end. Rubbish! Even most of the auction site sellers don't offer a pretty rear end. Help! :help: Where should I be looking?
I loike the Seidl kit but it's mega bucks money. The search goes on...

Do Leon back bumpers fit unmodified onto Toledos?
I'm afraid a Seat Leon rear bumper will not fit a Tolly, the problem you face is, as the model is getting older, the kits for them have come to an end, i did have a couple of sites that i noted when i was looking for mine, but on re-visiting the sites, no more rear bumpers for the Tolly, the only way to make your bumper look modified and good , is by what a couple have done already and these Tolly owners are StuC and TIIEWL, modify it with a TT bumper, StuC has a thread on here, look for Tolly To TT, this thread will help you, it looks really smart, but you will have to put a bit of graft into it

Is the back of the roof the on a Toledo the same shape as a Leon? I wonder if a roof wing was interchangeable, anyone?

It won't fit. I speak from experience! The back of the leon is a lot more curved than the toledo.
, might be letting my tolly go, but just looking for interest at the moment, is any body interested, how much do you think it's worth, after all the money that's been, ploughed into it, Year 2000, about 89k, with service history, someone's interested at 3k, but i don't know

Not sure tbh mate. Although you plough loads of money into the car you never really get it back. Best bet is a private sale where someone really likes the look of the mods you've done and might be willing to part with the money you're looking for.
Just to give you an idea, I have still got a draw back to a scooby and my brother went to look at one in a garage for me. It was an older 2000 model with 84K and they wanted £3995. He gave them my car details for a trade in value, 2001, 50K miles v5 170, 3 owners, FSH, few mods etc. They said as long as it was in the tip-top condition he described they'd give me about £1.5K [:@]
So 3K doesn't sound too bad and is probably what I would be looking for if selling privately.
Do have a number of options, some times i edge to the side of, take most of mod's off V5, transfer to 1.8 Turbo, this is still a option and it seems to be heading more this way, especially if someone thinks they are getting a modded up car, for next to nothing and we all know about dealer stealers, Kewe we know yours is worth more than £1.5k, but traders do not take mod's into consideration, untill they have got the car and it's time for them to sell it, remember in a previous post by Midcuk, oh well still thinking and scratching my head.
All this has come from having a drive in the 20vt, it's amazing how it pulls with only a 1.8 engine, it has less extra's than the V5, but can get around this by putting some in, someone's offered me a complete V5, Year 2000, engine problem for £200, but i have got no where to put it, still working on it :D, undercover from the wife .
Will see, but if you have not drove a 1.8 20vt, it is a experience and if you get chance, you must try it

Still trying to get the bits together for my Tolly mods. Got a Cupra bumper off epay and shopping for a splitter for it. does anyone know the partnos for the blanking plugs that cover the bolt holes?
Can anyone suggest a well suited bootlid spoiler that's not expensive?
rgds
Best bet might be to go along to SEAT dealer and get the bumper inserts and ask about the Toledo Sport spoiler while you're there.
right, i love the idea of this thread so thought i might as well revive it :)
Kewe: can you actually go out and buy coloured bump strips from the stealers? i was thinking of painting but it would be easy to buy them as is. Also, the SEAT sport spoiler, straight from dealers then?
Any other subtle mods then?

No mate, you can only buy the bump strips black dimple or smooth primed I believe. If you're intersested might be worth giving David @ Seremotors a shout as well as the spoiler.

hmmm...right. Who is this Dave guy? a club sponsor? how much do you reckon for colour coding and spoiler painting. Couple of hundred?

Not sure about cost but probably around £200 wouldn't be too far off the mark.

Spoiler...Seat Sport one is 60 quid and comes primed...and is easy to fit...;)
sorry, I can't quote the picture due to my postcount, but you know what I am talking about...
can anyone help me with a link to a shop or any information related to where i can find such a spoiler for a toledo (on PM if posting a link is not allowed) ? I have been searching for this part for months, and I'm finding only "toledo 1 style" which I don't like, or huge wrc-cheap-looking ones.
many thanks to anyone who will at least give me some hints on where to find it...

personally I would say lower first! then just subtle mods, cupra kit maybe, spoilers are extremely hard to come by. get some pics up!
Going to punch this post forward because it sure deserves it for we sure all spent some money..... not right for it to be lost in the background :funk:
