well, what all have you done, and do you have any graphs to show the improvements, am wondering on the next step to take for tuning my cordy. am thinking that a chip should be next as i have already got a sportstek b/box and induction kit fitted.
btw, i already know most of what can be done to raise the power from the 16v but wonder which is the most beneficial without having to go back to the bank to request another loan!!
BRENDY,have you got the samco hose?just fitted one to my 1.816v(even though certain "specialists"said it won't go) and it does help .but in true 16v style only at the top end,£70
fse power boost valve, replaces exsisting one and basically can be tuned as you car is on the rollers to help give the best fuelling best get it set up whilst having chip done£90
de cat pipe mine is bolt on so don't have to worry about cutting welds off come mot time ,but may not give any help to later models as the cats got less restrictive mine certainly help it rev up quicker and gave quicker throttle response£100
chip ,i'm told amd are the boys to do it and my mate karl morecroft got 18bhp from a super chip but this was with all of the above less fse boost valve thats about it with out going down on the bank manager, then your onto cams gas flowing throttles(I WANT) nitrous etc oh yeh supersprint manifold is supposed to give good torque gains 350ukp fapp me did i write all the above??????
oh yeh brendy my 180016v ibiza has 20ltr 16v induction kit samco inlet hose(blue-they're the fastest ones btw)de cat strate thru exhaust to a sportstek back box and an eco tek valve (juries still out on that one)

ive done it a little bit differently jason, i dumped ther rubber induction hose for a stainless steel one, you might have notriced ther louder growl wen i was on the track!!, was thinking of getting the supersprint 421 next as i had been told by a bloke in tuning shop that it helps mid range a lil bit, have an ecotek valve but took it off as it didnt really help anything at all, brakes actually went a wee bit on me, and have only just recently got my new sportstek zorst fitted after curby!
I have listed pretty much everything that ive done to the car in the 9 months that ive had it, on my website, still a bit rough round the edges (and more) http://homepage.ntlworld.com/brendan.nelson/mycordy.htm

your motor looks sweet. nice job.
I notice your intercooler position. does it get enough airflow running through it? I guess you have ducting to it.
thought about charge cooled if running it in that kind of position.

Engine wise its been a bit slow lately, going more for looks instead of power - right now the Sx 16v is sitting at about 170-180 bhp - bought it chipped from the dealer - ex demo car - Samco hose connected to pipercross induction kit - was gonna upgrade to viper induction kit from pipercross, but decided to use money on body work - viper kit is supposed to produce an extra 20 bhp on a 1.8 lump, at 5000rpm - dont know if that is bullshit or not - John at SJB said it would be mroe like 10-15bhp - havent got the supersprint exhaust yet - although according to what a few of you huys have said it does release a few extra bhp - Jim at Star performance offered to change the cams, Kent cams - probally looking at an increase of 10 bhp - although he said we could put in on the rolling road to verify - about 516 quid
Whats better Ecotek or Power Boost valve- I know neither increase power but Ecotek is supposed to save on fuel and I heard the Powerboost valve eats petrol -
Would love to turbo the car like the maxpower - 97 i think - but all enquires always lead to the usual it would blow etc, i heard the only way to turbo a 16 valver is to whip out the engine and put in a 1.8vt from a leon, cost 5200 .
Ah well - better speak nicely to the bank manager

anyone that tells you that you cant turbo a 16v engine is talking out of their arse, you can turbo it and it will respond well but if you go and fit a huge turbo and high boosts thats when you come into trouble, having something the same size as a kk04 or summat would be great if you can get somebody to fit it, keeping the boost levels sensible, as it is widely reported in vw and vauxhall forums etc that it is way too tempting just to go straight for the power and crank up that psi, fwd is temperamental in the wet and adding another 30-50 bhp would exagerate this when pressing on, id say a 210 - 240 bhp cordy would be amazingly quick, only downfall is the fwd, id say go for it if you have the funds laying around, but expect the petrol and tyre costs to rise a bit!! id love to do it but insurance costs over here are rediculous and that is one thing you would haveto declare methinks cause its not exactly something you can just whip out after an accident!
im off now to put my months wages on the lottery hoping to get a big enuff win to get a turbo!!
alternatively you could always take a safe bet a try to get hold of a wrote off from behind 1.8t a4/ibiza etc
Brendy, I agree about the folk talking out of their arse- its I have asked around a few times, but everybody just tells me its not possible - but I having looked at nabils sx I can see all the details - only shitter is how to you go getting ahold of all the parts that are needed - thats the only way I could see my car turbo'd - i would need to buy the parts myself , then have to get somebody to fit the thing - and nobody wants to touch it as they all thinks its not possible - you know of anybody who can do it - let me know -

well mate, im in belfast, but, if you go through the yellow pages and look for garages that specialise in turbos, usually jap cars, ask them to do it, they dont necessarily have to be seat specialists you could also try the web! will have a look around and if i see anything i'll giver yer a shout!

20bhp gain from an air filter kit?
No way hosay. It would be nice if it was that simple.
Get the supplier to stand by the claim... like before RR figure and after RR figure or a refund. See if Pipercross stand by their product claims then.

2ltr 16v Jetta, with 174bhp @ wheels and 152lb/ft torque running split duration cams, direct to head throttle bodies and fully mappable ECU.
if it helps fuel the fire , i have seen a SUPERCHARGED one too
be warned it had a nasty habit of breaking away from its brackets

Bill, I didnt say that was a true figure- thats info that I saw at the local mod shop - I have already check with sjb - John said it was more like 10-15 bhp - he figured about 12 -

That sort of performance gain even 10bhp from a simple air filter is optimistic...
Dyno proven. I lose/gain 3bhp from running with/without filters on my own.
don't get conned by big claims.. thats the only point I was making.

It's defiantley possible. I've spoken to a few VW tuners and have been told the german kit used on the Cordy in MP is crap. What you need is a Turbo Techinics kit. Unfortunatley the 2.0 16v ABF engine we have had a limited run in VW's so TT didn't make many kits. Anyone with an 8v will find it's a piece of piss because you can just buy an old golf with the bits.

I believe getting the TT 16v turbo exhaust manifold is difficult, as they have run out and won't make more until they have enough demand to cast a batch.
There are good manifolds in the US though for T3 fitment. The TT manifold is for T25.

Stealth Racing had the last stock I think.. Maybe worth a call if you want one.
