jase theres about 6 black plasticy blotheaded screws to come off.
ive had mine off for over a year, the car even sounds nicer without it!!

And I presume it does not slow you down without it on?

I was going to make one out of aluminium but that looks well fiddly - I think I need more that a trollye jack and some axle stand to get the damn thing off....

Am I supposed to have one of these on my 8v, or is it a 16v luxury?

Sure could do with one on the Pug, stop it dripping oil everywhere.

It catches all the spare change 16v owners spend on servicing. :)
Was looking at my mates 8v today can't say I noticed if it had one or not.

i got mine off with a normal jack and lay half underneath.
hasnt dripped a drop of anything since doing it. Its only thin plastic wth a little sound deadening so its not going to stop anything getting broken etc except for the odd scrape but nothing thats caused any problems.

Heh - It would look quality with a STI spoiler on the back like Shaggys. And some anthracite OZ Super L's.

I did not think mine had one until I went to change the oil for the first time. Comes off in a couple of minutes easy really!

I think they are only fitted to cars with the deeper front splitter cus it slots into it at the front (mines 1.6 but is late spec so it has one)

Dont know how much difference it makes to airflow though......another thing someone might know is why does my splitter only technically "split" the air on the near side?? There are only 2 cutouts and the rest are sealed up which seems odd, anyone know?

think this is a tdi issue, don't they have a cutout on that side for the i/cooler or vice versa, anyway there are about 3 different sorts, some have no cut outs some all, swings and roundabouts;)

Jase - you're right about the splitter cutouts - they're for the intercooler on a TDi and do precisely jack sh1t on a petrol engined car. I keep on meaning to rig up a cold air feed for my 8v running from them into the airbox but you know how it is, and i'm a lazy b@stard...

The engine under cover? That's where I keep all my bolts and spanners!! ;)
Everytime I do anything in the engine bay I drop something. Pain in the ass to get the tools back. Mind you when I got the car up on a ramp (a major job in itself because my car was too low) and took the cover off, all my tools and bolts were there, plus a shiny jubilee clip and the spark plug puller I never knew were down there :D
