Now then u lot..

This is for all those with the new (2001/2) Ibiza Cupra's..!!

Have any of you changed your brake pads? If so, what did you find?

As some will have seen on another thread, I had some problems with the EBC Green pads I bought for my car.

I have found out why..

When I went to the shop to buy the pads (Larkspeed), they looked in the catalogue of parts, and the SEAT Ibiza 1.8T (2001 onwards) stated a part number, and so I obviously ordered them.

I get the pads, and come to fit them onto my car, only to find that the carriers for the pads that I had bought are TOTALLY different to the ones that are on, and the EBC's would NOT fit into the caliper.

I drew round the old pad carrier and took the drawing and pads (EBC's) back to Larkspeed, and we looked at the sillouettes of the pads in the catalogue.

What did I find..???

the Calipers that are on my NEW Cupra are actually the ones off an OLD 2.0L 16v cupra..!!

I AM NOT HAPPY...!!!!

Should my car have the old calipers on it? or have SEAT conned me by using whatever old tack they had in the parts bin, and just simply painted them red to make them look right.. ??

I need some clarification from SEAT about which calipers should be on my car. I am taking the car into the garage again (4th time) on monday so they can fix the rattly accelerator that they managed to fix for a day and the wonky steering wheel they have put back on wrong, so I can possibly ask them about it then.. but I would be interested to know what other people have found.. ???

The old Cupra (2.0L 16v) has pad carriers that have a single 'knotch' on the front and have a spring round it, to hold the pad in place. The 'proper' new Cupra pad carrier has two 'rungs' on the front of it, and no spring.

Check your calipers... tell me what you find...

Flapper/Swinny... Do you know the score..?? Have they skanked me on the calipers? and if so... Can I get SEAT to replace them with the correct ones free of charge...??

Cheers..

Can't they change the spec to whatever they want without telling anyone??

When you bought your car did you specify the type of calliper or a 20T Ibiza???

What's the difference between the callipers?? Are they different or has EBC got it wrong (like they did with my EBC pads on the 1.4)?

I am plaesed to tell you that you haven't been done at all.

All Ibiza Cupra do use the same calipers and pads as the previous 16v model and this is correct.

The only difference is on Cupra R wich has bigger discs and pads.

Possibly it was a parts interpretation problem from whoever you bought your EBC's or they got you pads for an R

Hope this answers your question

Yup..

That was indeed the answer I was hoping for.. and the one I expected..

I was just a little miffed that I had found out they had the old pad size after waiting so long with the EBC's for the Cupra R in my boot.. !! lol

I have ordered a new pair of pads to fit the calipers that are on my car now, and I have received £46 back..!! :)

the Cupra R pads are £82 ..!! and only £36 for the proper ones for the '2.0L 16v/standard Cupra' calipers.. !! Nice..

Should get them sometime this week and will hopefully get them fitted at the weekend (weather permitting).

When I go into the shop I got the pads from I will inform them that the catalogue is incorrect and that the 1.8T Cupra they have listed is actually the Cupra R.. Hopefully will save someone else having the same hasles as me..

Well.. Cheers for the info guyz.. mucho appreciado..

U got a good deal then..

Cos EBC themselves state that their range of pads start at 29.99.. !! So you must have got them from a place that is running a 'loss leader' on that item to sell them in the hope that you buy something else.. shops work like that..

I should have got them off the internet, but that would have been more of a nightmare as I would have had to post them backwards and forwards..
Went to a local (Hull) shop and expected to pay a little bit more. Still £36 is far better than £82 that I had originally paid..!! lol

Once I have had the EBC's, if I still have the car when they need changing again I will probably go for the Pagid Fast Roads.. as they are apparently better and more suited to the brakes (correct thickness).
