I knew DIY was dangerous... a trip to Homebase gets you a flat tyre thanks to this bugger. Right in the grooves in the middle of the tyre.

Drove about 50 metres on it to Safeway over the road to try the air pump but it wasn't taking any so I changed the wheel and found it.

Still, a nice day for catching some sun whilst swapping the wheel.

It could be fixed but only if the tyre is rated less than Z..

If you want a repair on Z or above speed rated tyres they have to go back to the manufacturers..

Looks fairly worn to to be bothered with to be honest.

Worn? Worn? *cough choke*

It's only done 3700 miles on the back... :D

Looks like it's repairable to me.
As Mark says you'll loose the z-rating though.

Are the OE 205/45/16s Z rated on the TDi? I'd look but can't be arsed walking outside  :D

Had to nip to the car so looked.

SP2000 Sport stamped 205/45R16.

Looking on Dunloptyres.co.uk, there isn't a ZR rated in my size.

May be lucky cos the nail has gone straight in and not at an angle. Only prob is it is in between the tread. Leave it in, squeeze some more air in it if low and drive it to a tyre shop for repair. Better still replace with spare for the trip.

Almost exactly the same happened to me last month when I was at B&Q but obviously it would have been a better quality screw ;) . I had no problems getting it fixed apart from the price £13  by QwikFit but was the only place I could find open early on a Sunday morning.

Chemix managed to fix one of my tyres that had a great spike of metal in it - they said they used the biggest bung legally allowed for a car.. Looking at yours - so long as it has gone in between the ribbing in the tyre you should be ok for a repair jobbie. :o)

Took it into National Tyres (the current people who do VW/Seat Finance stuff).

Blokie said new tyre as there's some run flat damage on the side wall.

Ho hum.

Space saver or fullsize in the boot? If you can repair it and get your spare tyre on the axle instead and put the damaged one in the boot if still good for temporary use.

Full size steel rim in the boot.

Not repairable due to side wall damage (was he telling the truth? Who am I to guess?). Hence Seat won't pay under my tyre cover.

National wanted to stiff me £115 or more for a Conti!  I forget the exact price as I was to busy trying to collect my jaw from the floor.

No way was I bending over to take it like a choir boy, so the alloy is in my boot and I'm off to independant local place tomorrow to get an SP3000 Sport for £75 all in.

They said the SP2000 is now discountinued in favour of the SP3000. I tried ringing Dunlop today (who answered the phone Goodyear Dunlop which was news to me) to ask about mixing SP2000 & SP3000 but no one in.

Typical ain't it? Under 4000 miles into a new car and the OE tyres are end of life already

Just had to get a new tyre today

Noticed when I was getting in the car this morning a small bulge in the fronts tyre wall. This is obviously remnents from when a drove over a corner of a kerb 2-3 months ago and I thought I had got away with it. I have obviously been driving around on it for a while but knowing now that the tyre was damaged I had to get it changed.

I too had to settle for a SP3000 as I got the same reply that the SP2000 was discontinued so I had them swap tyres around so the new one's on the back. I would have prefered to shell out and get two but I'm fitting a new kitchen at the mo' so paper is a bit thin.

The tread pattern on the new SP3000 is totally different and has a different pattern on each half of the tyre. The guy at the tyre house suggested they may have changed the tread pattern to improve road noise as the SP2000 is quite noisy.

Oh hum, life's a bitch when you are having fun !

I spoke to a lady in Dunlop's Technical team yesterday prior to getting my SP3000 fitted.

She didn't know anything about the SP2000 being end of line and said her PC showed them as being in 'in-stock'.

Not looked at the tread pattern on the 3000 yet.

I've had the 3000 put on my spare so I have four 2000s on the car. Tyre place didn't charge me anything for swapping spare to alloy and new tyre to spare :)
