View Full Version : Revo fuel economy
...I've heard that the Upsolute chips actually slightly improve economy in normal driving conditions - is this the same for the Revo?
Cheers,

In theory yes. I assume because the maps are more refined and need less throttle to get them to the same speed. But more power = more throttle = more petrol!!!!
Depends how heavy your right foot is?? Cause mine weighs a ton!!!!!
Surely more power needs more fuel and more air (increase boost, adjust fueling map) so you can use a lot more fuel.

but at the same time due to the more advanced tuning of the car less throttle is required cause its more efficient??

I don't think a Revo map or any other is 'more advanced' tuning per se. Indeed, I think a simple chip tune is actully less efficient because you will increase heat (a wasted energy in a car), increase noise (another wasted energy), and maybe alter emissions (possibly indicating 'less efficient'). All of this is energy that is not going into powering the engine.
Typically more power is less efficient. For example look how much more power it takes to 'destroy' another car.
I'm sure there's some scientist or physics inspired person who can thow some numbers at this.
If you want efficient drive a Mazda RX8 :D

Don't very often drive any distance, but acheived 39mpg on the round trip to TSR RR.Generally i get 27-30mpg short trips around town ,which i consider reasonable for a tuned car. ANDY

I can get, relatively easily, 42mpg in my Ibiza but I know the computer is telling lies. :D
TBH, I couldn't give a t*ss about fuel economy or I'd drive a diesel. It would be the last thing on my mind if buying Revo or similar.

As a comparison....
My Ibiza returns 32mpg on road driving, not hammering it, but also returns 4mpg when on full chat on track.
Pre-Jabba conversion its road economy was the same low 30's.... unless Driving like Miss Daisy which resulted in 45mpg (once)
regards
Bill
..thx for the feedback guys - anything over 30mpg (I do 80 miles a day - mostly A road) is fine by me and I can justify the expense on the fuel.

I am REVO'd and ive just done a run from London to home (Manchester) I was averaging 80mph with short blasts upto 120mph, managed to get a 37mpg and im still on my tank of optimax that i filled up with at the London gateway service station- currently done 310 miles from this tank with a tiny bit more left in in. Not bad at all.

...impressive figures Mike, sounds like how I drive. Keep it to 80 nice and sensible with the occasional burst to entertain :)

Mike is that figure from the computer? If it is, and I assume your tank is a shade over 10 gallons like mine, then you should be able to get almost 400 miles on this tank. I'm quite sure you won't. :D The car computer seems to be very optimistic to me.

I've never trusted the fuel gauges on cars too much, that last 1/4 just seems to go too damn quick - are fuel tanks conical or something? :)

Exactly. Do a test and note the mileage you do from brimmed up to warning light on, calculate your average mpg from this add a digit for the spare 6L or so left, then look at the average your computer gives. How is it I can calculate I can get 280 miles on a 10 gallon ish tank but the trip for the tank says 36mpg?
I'm averaging 30 mpg on Revo 4 bar fpr optimax program during normal mixed driving - quite happy with that.

I do tank to tank refills to calc my mpg..... when I check it...
My figures are not MFA ones but real ones.

me too Bill - it's the only way to be sure.... Only done it once though or risk being classified as a sad git.

I just got 61mpg coming into work this morning :D Standard not revoed....

but you drive like miss daisy. ;)
Hardly, I averaged 60mpg sat at an average 80mph coming back from Revo before christmas and that was with the occasional giggle fit when the right foot got heavy. I got 54mpg going down in standard trim so the upgrade does improve mpg but I have found I am a couple of mpg down on town driving. So if you do alot of m-way driving you should get better economy but as mine is mostly town driving I'm a bit down on original but more than recompenced by the grin factor :D
