View Full Version : Dynamic Sat Nav
Just had our Sat Nav unit replaced due to a fault, and it has been replaced with a brand new "Dynamic" one.
Can anyone actually tell me the difference between this new one and the old one? I have searched the forums, and it looks like maybe there is another Route Option, but I am not sure.
Also, the old "non-dynamic" disk does not work in this one, so a new one has been ordered, Is it the case that the "non-dynamic" one is not compatible in the "Dynamic" head unit?
Lastly, as I have not yet got a disk that works, the unit is still all in German. Can this be only changed throught the Navi menu once a disk is inserted?
In this country, not a lot 'cos VAG won't buy the licence for the TMS information. The dynamic bit refers to the ability to receive coded traffic information on traffic conditions and automatically navigate you round jams etc. I think someone on this forum did report that the facility works on the continent.
I ususally set the Sat Nav on long journeys anyway so I can use the diversion button if I see or hear of a jam on the radio. I've found that setting the Sat Nav to avoid motorways can give some great drives and keep you away from the b****y awful M27/M3 rat run.
BTW this was an official SEAT customer care response - after waiting a few weeks of course.
Thanks for the reply. Any ideas about the Languages and disk compatability?

Renault have said the same - but the excuse is after a 6 month term test the system quality was unacceptable for retail use
are redoing a test (6 months) on updated version as we speak

I've got the old satnav and can confirm the CDs are not compatible. The new one needs a DX. Have just updated mine to the 2003 CD following the instructions on the update website. Unfortunately that produced a DX CD as the site instructions are not clear :-( Now waiting for a replacement .....
Got our new Dynamic(DX) 2003 Sat Nav disk. Finally, I can get rid of the German text everywhere and make some sort of sense of the options!!
For information, the differences that I have seen so far between the Dynamic and Non-Dynamic systems are.....
1) There are Auto and Manual settings to control the illumination. (I have set it to Manual as in Auto mode, as soon as you switch the ignition on, it sets the display to night mode!)
2) The address detail goes down to house number level now.
3) You can have the map just on Info mode, where it follows where you are, but you do not have to set a destination.
4) There are more options allowing you to configure where you are and the direction of travel (in case, I suppose, the system gets out of sync with the satellites?).
5) You can change the contrast of the screen.
That's all I can remember at the moment, hope it helps!!
Phil,
Where did you get your Satnav swapped out.
Was it WJ Kings in Sidcup ??? :)
No, it was Westerham Garage.
We got the V5 in March at which stage it was under a year old. The voice instructions of the Sat Nav were distorted, so the dealer ordered a new unit. The old unit was a non-DX unit, but was replaced with a DX one! We didn't like to complain, you know;) .
We have always used Westerham, and have always had great service from them, so decided to stick with them. Also, I have heard that the salesmen are a bit rude - someone mentioned it a while back on one of the forums.
That would have been Andy who left a few week ago.
There has been a few threads regarding WJ Kings and how good they are. (not on commission).
Just thought it may help out as they are a damn sight closer to you.
Hope to see you around :D
Have you got any pictures of your car with the tints?
It was something I was considering a while back, but it is difficult to know if it would look good or not.
Was it expensive, if you don't mind me asking, that is!
Not at all....
Shopped around for ages but found the best place was in Bexley Village. Called Kevlon Tinting (01322 523292). Done a fantastic job and very professional. Cost me £250 which I thought was very cheap compared with other -fly-by-nights- in the area.
Don't have any pictures...sorry :(
Is that the one behind the chemists in Bourne road?
£250 sound pretty good. What grade tints did you have done? I would probably go for a 'Light Smoke' or equivalent all round.
Thats the one.;)
I went for a grade darker than you are supposed to have, but got mi' dad to test 'em (he's a trafik cop). He said they are OK and legal. Think it is a 50% tint but to tell you the truth, anything lighter is not worth doing. Visibility is not affected looking to the outside world and stops the cabin getting too hot in the sun.
You can also check the chicks out in the cars next to you without the words "PERV" being shouted back :D :D

Excellent. I'll be down there this afternoon!!
I think the max tint you can have is 70%, so your 50% is fine.
Just got to save up now, oh, and convince the wife that we 'need' to have it done!!;)
If you approach it correctly, don't worry about the missus.
Just explain to her that after the tints are done she is less likely to be cut up and stared at by hairy @rsed builders/white van man. The film also acts as a security feature. She will feel safer and less vunerable after the tints are done. It makes the cockpit feel more comfortable and personal.
It is well worth the money. Also, he may give you a big discount for cash. :)
i have professional tints on my toledo a grade lighter than light smoke and looks well cool and not too dark
what is the site where you upgrade your sat nav cd from ?
You can either go through Seat themselves, or I think the company that makes the cds is, off the top of my head, TeleAtlas.
Your dealer should fill out a requisition form to seat uk.
I think my new 2003dx disc took about 3 days.
