I've noticed my fronts are wearing nicely and will probably need changed in the next couple of months.

I've heard good reviews of using Good-Year tyres instead of the Pirellis and think I will get some.

My question is can I just wait until the fronts are knackered and stick Good-Years on or will this upset the handling?

Or should I keep swapping until all 4 are knackered at the same time and replace the lot?

Many thanks.

You'd probably get through 2 sets of fronts before your rears wore out. If you think with the wallet in mind I'd rotate your tyres. At least the handling balance will be maintained. I've got newish F1s on the front and need-to-change-to-pass-MOT Michelin's on the rear and wet roundabouts, quickish wet corners especially ones with bumps are quite oversteery.:D

It's a front wheel drive car, so take the advice of most tyre manufacturers and put the new tyres on the back. It's worth putting a few miles in with them on the front first though just to scrub them in a bit.

As Ed, I had a set of 4 Michelins on my Ibiza, wore out the fronts, had Eagle F1's to replace them and she was absolutely terrifying in anything other than perfectly dry conditions. Swapped the F1's to the back and everything was much more neutral in most conditions - albeit with the understeer of the rock hard Michelins when pressing on... Have since FINALLY managed to kill off the other two Michelins, and replaced with Eagles. Much nicer now...

Errr, summer 2001 those Michelins went on. 2nd pair of Eagles bought about 3 weeks ago, the weekend after Haynes. There was actually still plenty of legal tread left on the Michelins too, but the feathering of the middle tread blocks was getting on a bit... Can't wait for the next NavScatter - the guy who navigates described me as "commited" in the wet with gripless Michelins last time out. Or maybe he said I should be committed... :D
