dropped the motor (she knows shes more than that to me!!) into the engine bloke yesterday, hes having a look at it today, at worst i think for the engine repair alone will be around 300 notes, (worst case scenario is damaged valve seats ( i think ) that he has to send her away up the road a few miles and and for an extra few quid it comes back all shiney and ready for him to port/flow etc she WILL be ready for the end of the week, a wet slap with a kipper and constant bomb warnings round belfast today still cant take the inane grin of my face today!!

Hi Brendy

cheers for thr info on Zimmerman's

Sorry to hear about belt. How many miles had it done ?

I've just had mine replaced at 33k - not taking the risk. Had one let go on my old 205 1.9 - that was easy to replace (ha ha - not) in comparison to a 16v.

My local dealers were really good - 40k (big) sevice, timing, power steering, and alt belts plus lots of other bits & pieces £350 all in. Nearly fell over when they handed me the bill - was expecting well over £500.

Cheers

:)

No probs darky, happy to be of assistance.
After inspection 8 new valves required, sourcing them is a bit of a problem as nowhere seems to have a part number!!
two of them did hit quiet hard, not bent but are scraped, and the rest have marks where they did make contact.
Manifold is cracked a little (trackdays i reckon) but richard is going to weld it, he said that it wont be much of a problem anyway though he did recommend a decent 4 branch.
all in all im having 8 new valves, timing belt (i supplied from seat), flow job and also decided to get the head skimmed, im staying away from the flywheel lightening for now as i dont want to lose any grunt in higher gears during hill climbing on mways etc.
all in all this is costing 350 quid inc oil and spark change too.
on the other belts subject, i changed the power steering belt myself one day after my steering became juddery when stationary, 7 quid for the belt if memory serves and was a piece of the proverbial to fit, one nut to loosen slack , fit belt and tighten it up again , tho not too tight and itr was like new again :)

yes mate, standard ones for now, finances took a little dip but should be ok next month for some more work, id rather get cams and chip done at the same time as the other fella in cookstown, triple 7 can do all of that work for me.
car will be driven like a granny for the first while until i feel that it will stand up to a little "spirited" driving.
I might actually try and source a performance manifold first tho as it does have a hairline crack across the top of one of the branches. Any ideas? i heard supersprint only do lhd and will only make rhd if enough are requested..ie dozens!

cheap as chips matey!!
ill be going there as soon as i get the motor back as it sat there for two months without being used, i fancy pampering the little thing, a really long wash and polish s on the cards too.
darkstar, try europarts too, but remember to search for the equivilent vw part esp if you phone them as they are a bit thick as far as seats are concerned.
the local ones in belfast wouldnt sell me corrado g60 pagid pads as they were sure they wernt right and had someone in last week (ages ago now) with a 16v ibiza bringing his pads back saying they didnt fit.....hmm

brend RE the manifold, was told by scott of amd that you would lose stacks of bottom end with a tubular manifold.am thinking of cams and head work myself(after arbs and suspension),why not get yer stnd ones reprofiled?works out cheaper, but i suppose not as good as buying a set of shricks for example, mines in for a cambelt on monday,so gonna get eric(my mechanic)to give me the nunber of his guy that that does his heads, gonna post a few questions in the tuning section, have a peek and maybe ask your guy the same q's on my behalf:cheers:

Going to GSF - checked the parts with VAG OE # - GSF said they're the same as Corrado G60 - for Brembos & Pagid pads. AS GSF are only 40 mins drive away, it's the easiest option.

Has your car got the factory "flip" paint job as well then Mine's Obsideon Grey metalic, but looks purplish in sunlight ?

Cheers :)

mine goes a shimmery silvery colour, not very strong silver tho, up close you can see the pearl effects, basically minute silver shards of paint :) i love it.
brakes wise, pads, discs, callipers etc are all from the g60 corrrrr ado.
on another similar note, anyone noticed how similar the cordoba sx follows similar lines to the corrado?? only my opinion.

Yeah, there's one just round the corner from me. Little shorter, but if you're looking from the front o/s and an angle, I reckon you could easily mistake them for one another when your p!ss3d! :D

head flowed, (sooo much waste metal came out!)
head skimmed 1/8th,
new cam pulley,
8 intake valves,
head gasket,
magnatec 10/40 f/synth
oil filter

picked her up last night, and this morning after getting ecu reset (to sort searching idle) shes running like a dream although a little rattly (getting new tappets to sort but arnt doing any harm)
car is flying again and a little bit extra, feels a little more torquey in higher gears at lower revs than usual, bonus!!
one happy chappy indeed, how much did all this cost i hear you ask?? £1000, £900 ?
400 ish give or take a container of oil! the mechanic bloke is a genius!
