View Full Version : Air box on the 250BHP Cupra
Attached is an image from the Cupra championship website.
Looks different to the standard setup!
Anybody know what filter is inside?
Looks cheaper than a full induction kit…
It looks like they got Dormouse to do a Gutter downpipe conversion:D
Where's the battery gone?
Looks like it needs a lot of cold air, which is good.
I see they replaced the pipe from the I/C to the inlet manifold with something stronger.
Battery goes in the boot, gives better weight distribution.
If you look at the picture on the website it has a high resolution image!
It is a lot clearer

Hey SEAT, I have noticed flaws already. Want some consulting done? :p
Dor.
Also i noticed this, asked Mork a few weeks back what he thought, but on that picture, have you noticed there is a pipe running from the water bottle to the induction hose or therabouts.
Almost Charge cooler -esque but not because surely that would plumb into the intercoolers ???
Well armed with lots of questions for the engineers this summer :)

also notice no front upper strut brace !
So if a 250bhp purpose built track car doesn't need it, do us mere 210bhp mortals need it

As Z poins out there appears to be a direct feed from the water bottle.
Pretty sensible idea if you want to use the existing bottle as a resevoir. You'll note the top of the water bottle has been drilled too, which implies something is either being drawn out or in at fairly low pressures. Considering the large-ish size of the pipe I would say it may be some kind of breather.
That induction arrangement also appears to use rather expensive brake duct hosing. An SPT no no. Sorry SEAT no SPT homologation for you :p

/OFF TOPIC/
Dor,
Shouldn't you have made your filter from tea towels and not have purchased a Green one?
/ON TOPIC/
No upper strut brace, well spotted Leo.
Is the pipe attached to the bonnet scoop (top left) for cooling the driver?

Dont think it is, because as i recall all these Cupra Champ Cars are left hand drive, so not sure what that pipes there for, unless it is then channeled behind the dashboard???
I noticed on an interior shot somewhere, they have the non climatronic dash boards, ie 3 empty round holes where the conventional heater controls and air con would be.

In fact if you look closely its a flannel sandwiched between two pieces of chicken wire....:D

They might have reinforced the towers and leave it at that. Probably not available for the Leon but for golfs North Viking make brake cooling & intake tubing.
Bonrath make replacement inlet pipes as well as air intakes:

Also check the ABD LAN cold air intake:

Sound like weight saving to me...
