When i cranked my stereo up on the way home from work, the screen dimmed with every bass line, which i thought only happened when the batery was low or loadsa power being drawn yeah? Well i had the air con off, rear heater off and my stereo is bog standard!! Anyone else had this?

Also, whats going to happen when i seriously upgrade it all (ie 2 amps and a sub)? Am i going to need a power cap?

Cheers

If its on a Leon, mine did that too, but when i upgraded the headunit it stopped doing that,

I think it is just that the power supply in the oem headunit is Pants!, the car seems to be able to supply plenty of power, but its still worth running a stiffening cap on your sub amp, mid and tweeter amp shouldnt need it though

All it is is that you are drawing near maximum current through that circuit.

When u put an aftermarket amp in, you will draw less power as it will be louder, if u follow me ;)

Mark Forbes put in a new ground for his new Alpine head unit so maybe that would help you with the screen dimming....

I agree with Mosser,
The Aura radio in my toledo also blinks when the tunes are up, I'm almost absolutely sure it's from a cheesy power cable to the head unit.

I actually meant that the power supply for the amplifier section in the oem radio was probably a bit suspect because the voltage is usually stepped up to around 30-40 volts for an amp internally, and to save money they probably speced a power supply with just enough power to drive the amp in the oem unit and that this was probably the reason for the dimming lights!,

My more powerful head unit is still running from the original wiring, drawing more current than the oem unit and not dimming at all!!, although that might be down the the electro luminescent display technology used as the voltage for the display is upped to around 100 volts for this type!

I have a new ibiza 20vt also with this problem . I opted for the cd player up grade as well which, when turnd up to 22 ish, cuts out for a mo and then starts up again . Also the flickering is a lot worse, starts at 11 on volume ,where on the radio about 22 . I took it back to the dealer. He said it was a factory fault and there was nothing he could do apart from putting out a flash report . Then seat customer care phoned . Once again i explained the problem . They said "we have never heard of this problem before we will get the technical department on to it ". (RUBBISH). A mobile enginieer phoned and said he would look in to it and let me know what they would do. 1 1/2 months later, still no reply . So back to the dealer and they tried a new facia . It is just the same. Customer care phoned back and said "it is a safety feature". RUBBISH . I stumped him with a few questions that he could not answer. They said they would still look in to it .

What is the answer to this problem ? The car is under warranty and not working properly . Is this a matter for trading standards?
This has now been going on since 15th September. I only got the car on the 1st September. Still no result.

Has anyone got theirs sorted out . And how?

Is there an up grade head unit for the new ibiza as the box does the heater air con and all the other functions. They all appear to go through the grundy head unit ?

I would love some feed back to all of the above as i would like to change things. ie amp speakers and so on, but would like the car right before i play with it !

PLEASE HELP!!!
