View Full Version : New Cupra - ICE Questions
OK Guys - New member here
I've just sold my Pug 306 TD
(The blue one in the gallery on pug306.com if your interested)
Ive placed my order for the Ibiza cupra.
Looking on here, it looks like a great place for advice and problem solving along with a great place to chat.
As for the stereo... I have seen a few threads about fibreglass fitted boxes...
Is it a messy job?
I have had a few brain waves on how to do it and want to bounce it off you lot.
1- First thing to do is find the gap to use
2- Put a bin bag in it - then fill it with expanding foam to get the shape....
3- let it dry and then remove it. Do the same again over the first bag
4- let the 2nd one dry and hey presto, one mould for the back of the box.
Now what do I do for the front of the box?
Next question...
The sony 4x 50 amp -
I have been using a longmill 4x50 amp with the standard speakers in the pug with no problems (the speakers are clarion as standard) can the seat speakers cope ok with the new power?
Sorry for the long post
Russell
That sounds like a really good way to get a mould!!, might have a go at that myself, i fancy putting a kenwood w3003 12" sub in my boot but didnt want to loose the space!,
There are poeple running 4 x 45w rms head units so you shouldnt have any problems with it, i run a clarion 4 x 40w rms head unit and have had no problems at all
Oh and forgot to say, Welcom to the forum!!, you'll get a lot of helpfull advice here!:D

I wouldn't bother with the foam etc. I tried it and it took forever to make the mould and it's not very strong when you've finished. Just do the glassin' in the car for a couple of layers. That's all I did.
It's not that messy really but you do need to take care that you don't get the resin on anything because you won't get it off.....
As for the front you just need to bond a piece of MDF to the front of it. Dead easy but you have to be careful you have enough clearance.
As for the speakers you need to upgrade the Ibiza ones really. They aren't much cop. And if you want an amp just to run a sub how about my MTX amp?

Yeah but that's in the Leon Mosser, which appears to have better speakers. Russell said he's getting an Ibiza.....I wouldn't say the Beezer speakers (in my experience) are in the same league.
I've got the amp fitted with standard fronts and JBL 6x4's in my Beezer. The amp is more biased towards the rear so as not to blow the fronts up, the JBL's are 55rms so just about right. Not hugely bassy but enough for me at the mo until I get cash together for the 6x9's.
I'd recommend getting the 6x9's in if I was you, the Pug's speakers are spot on as standard (rear 6x9's and quite big fronts IIRC?) and probably more likely to take the extra power.....
Cheers
Andy
Oh and welcome Russell. :)
Thanks guys,
(sorry if there are girls on here, I dont know yet)
I won't be getting the car until March, 12-14 weeks delivery.
So I will be plaging as soon as i get it as I cant drive without some decent tunes.
Not keen on the 6x9 option as they tend to try and do every thing in one package and not always that good.
I will try the standard mids and see what they can do, and change them if necasary.
just one point for anyone interested, If you are running a sub in the boot get a decent cross-over installed and get rid of the low end to the standard speakers, this will normally give really good results as they can go a lot higher without the bass distorting them. The sub then pickups the low end without any problem
?? - Do the ibizas have seperate tweeters as standard?
Thnks for the welcomes.

Afternoon Russell,
I'm also looking at getting an Ibiza Cupra and can join you with the concerns on the stereo.
In my current car, I've the standard fronts that happen to be mids in the door and tweeters up on the dash. This is powered by the head unit which is 4*40W. In the back I have some 4 way Kenwood 6X9's and a bass tube. These are being powered by an amp and I also have a Kenwood low pass filter to send all the low stuff to the tube.
I've matched this up with a Sony Head Unit with a multichanger and I think it's got a really crisp and natural sound without anything being overpowering especially the bass! I have it very slightly faded to the back.
I installed it myself with a friend and he's done some multi thousand installs on other cars and he thinks mine has a far better sound! he thinks the sound is so balanced and full.
This is the sort of install I'd be looking to do in the Ibiza with CD, as people have been saying that the head unit is good enough, just needs a change in speakers etc.
Does the Seat have the Mid's and Tweeters up front? If so, where are they located?
Cheers,
Chris.
Russell
Hi and welcome to the forum.
The Cupra has tweeters as std, in the plastic cover on the inside of the door mirrors.
IMO the std speakers are a bit crap, i changed to the kenwood dual mag component set-up.
They come with their own x-overs so u can separate the low signals.
We mounted the mids in some adaptors (£17 delivered) as the std mids are moulded into a bucket thats screwed onto the door.
The tweeters were mounted into the plastic cover next to the std ones (theres a grille over std tweeters so they are hidden)
Its all been done well (thanks to zboyd and tricky) and they sound 100 times better than std.
Rockford amp and sub goin in soon aswell.
Will post some pictures when done.
NB Incase u didnt know, to replce the std mids u have to remove the complete door card, the grille does not detach!!!
If anyone knows someone that might want my 306, let me know as the last buyer pulled out....
3 days after we agreed price etc he decided to check the insurance and says he cant afford it.
(I had asked if he'd checked and he said he had. Turns out that he had only checked the insurence company in his head that said it wont be more than £xxx's)
I have ordered the car and have even cancelled my insurance as they wont cover the cupra... I'll keep the car on order but what to do about the insurance..... ARRHHHH
