Right guys, here's the deal.
There seems to be loads of you out there with Ibizas who want a sub box in the quarter under the shelf. After christmas ( or maybe before ) I am going to start making these for sale.
I need one volounteer to lend me thier beeza for two or three days to make the first one and then I'll make a mould and be able to knock up as many as required. Oh and the motor won't leave my driveway whilst having it done in case you'd be worried about me melting your brakes....
The volounteer will also get thier box at cost price....
Who would be interested in a box? How much would you guys be willing to pay? And would anyone be prepared to lend me thier Beeza for the first one?
If there was enough interest then I might also make some for Cordys and Leons too.

Oooh, how much is a train back from 'Pool? :) :) Probably a bit far for me, plus I can't leave my car for a couple of days. (No I don't mean I'll miss it, just I need it. :) )
What size subs will fit? I don't want to overstress my little 4*55watt amp....
Anybody know what size/power sub would work well with the amp? It might save me having parcel shelf holes.
Which side are you going to put it in? I assume you mean in the area behind the suspension mounts.
Cheers

Unfortunatley that little sony amp won't power a sub. You'd have to buy a larger amp.
I'd be able to make the box to fit an 8", 10" or 12" sub no problem.
I was thinking I'd make it for the left sid of the boot but if the majority wanted the right I'd do that instead. the box would fit on the side of the boot and most of the voloume would be behind the suspension turrets as this is generaly wasted space.
I'll also be able to do a boot floor and side panel for the other side which could house an amp for anyone interested.
Pete
Any idea what box volume your going to be able to get?
As for Amps and subs... I have just bought a RadioMobile 2x200 amp and it rocks. Aparently its last years kicker stuff in a new case etc.
I can get 2x12" RM subs for £60 the pair (again old kicker stuff)
Im looking to get 2x12" in the boot (or 10" if I have to) so left and right boxes would be good ;-)
I have built installs in the past from MDF but I like the look of the neat and tidy side box (especially with the yellow sub)
Have a look at my last car (with my install) at www.commercemagazine.co.uk/pug306_site2/russels_pugl.htm
(or go via pug306.com)

I'd be going for about 1 to 1.2 cuft in size so any 10 or 12 should be fine in that.
I could make both left and right boxes no problem. I just need to make moulds for both.

Pete,
I thought as much - as you can see, I'm not an audiophile....I'm learning though. :)

My car won't arrive til mid feb 2002 but i would definatly want a left sided box and a right sided box that would house my two 10" rockford fosgate subs.
Will they be trimmed in carpet or can we choose?
What sort of price are we looking at here?

Current plan is that the RHS would be the sub box since the CD Changers fitted are on the LHS.
Then a LHS build which will give enough space for an amp to be mounted and give access to the changer. It would also help protect the changer from knocks at the same time.
Once I have a mould I would be able to make them to fit one or two subs. Although two subs would cost more.
Trimmed in black carpet to match the rest of the boot I was thinking maybe £70 - £80 for the sub box and about £45 for the amp mounting.

Put me down for one of each for a mk2 beeza when you get round to making them. Been looking everywhere for them but had no real luck. Price is good too! :D

Will do mate. I think I can make a universal one that fits in Mk2 and Mk3 so that'll be no problem.

Celica GT4 is a poss at the moment. Especially as the insurance is about £200 less than on my cupra? damned if i can work out the logic on that.

I found the same thing when I got a quote for a golf 1.8T 250 quid cheaper than the Cordoba even when chipped to 192 and lowered on 18's...

Top man......
Yours is a MK2 isn't it? I'll do a comparison of a Mk2 and Mk3 on Saturday but I think they're the same. I'll get the stuff in to start it off and I'll get back to you. I could try and make it mostly over a weekend if that's better? Say drop your motor off on the Thursday night and then I can use Friday/Saturday/Sunday morning to sort it out. Then you only have to pull a sicky for the one day.:D
Thanks mate..

Yeah that's fine. I want to make a universal one so it fits both so having yours for a couple of days is ideal. Oh and it'll be safe because we'll park it on the driveway behind my car so it can't be moved. I think my alconbury brake killing session has put all the cupra owners off lending me their motors......

Right then so all we need is a date, oh and the small fact of price, me thinks i should get this well cheap if not free as im loosing my car for a weekend and doing you the biggest of favours!!!! (he he, worth a try!!!) Also when your doing this and as your buying carpet aswell, can you also re do the whole boot for me as it looks very taty from the povious owner ??
Sure this wont me a problem for you !!
Cool...boot build sounds good to me and I would be very interested in that dependent on cost etc etc as always
Cheers.

Minty : I've just replied to you mate. Don't know when yet I've got a couple of busy weeks coming up but I'll discuss it with you in a week or so. Doing the whole boot is no problem. If you have a sub build and an amp build all that's left is the floor. I've got the template for this already so I can knock one up easy.
I've done more Ibizas than anything almost. Mikes, then Sauls this weekend, and yours mate..... VanillaICE has never been so busy...:D :D
CupraSi : I'll stick your name down as a possible then. Prices are looking about £80 for sub box for RHS, £45 for LSH build to house an amp, and probably about £25 for a solid floor to fit between them. So for the price of a AutoAcoustics box you would have a complete build...
The prices are aproximate untill I get proper costs for materials.
Pete
Pete, thats cool....at least its an approx cost and one that I would not hold you to until...you have done another and then I guess that you would have a better idea of cost etc etc.
Cheers.

I think those prices are pretty accurate. But I'm not sure yet. I won't know how much of the materials I'll need until I've made one.
Pete
One minor point....
Deos the CD changer come with a decent length of cable? i ask this as it may need to be moved. I'm running 2x12" in boxes in my pug and the CD changer is fixed to the back seats - however if i turn up the bass the CD skips nicely.
May need to relocate the changer.

Sorry mate I've just been too busy of late....
I have one customer that keeps coming back every weekend for tweeks which keeps delaying things, some people are never happy.... They know who they are...hehehehe ( Sorry mate, only kidding )
Plus the auqisition of the new demo car is taking a priority at the mo. It might have to be after christmas but I'm trying to find time before....

Right I'm trying to work out numbers for these boxes/builds etc. Could everyone who's definately interested reply here or to me by e-mail at peter.stewardson@marconi.com and let me know what you'd want - Sub box ( Drivers side ), amp rack ( passenger side ), floor - What mark it's going in ( Mk2 / 3 ).
I'm busy for the next couple of weeks but I might be able to start on some after that.
Oh and if any Cordoba owners are interested e-mail me. I think I have 1 definate and another possible so I might make a few of these as well.... Bloody hell I'm gonna be busy....

Is it possible to have Two sub enclosures? One on each side? Ive got two 10" Rocky fos and want to keep em both if possible!
What size amp fits in the amp rack?
Icecavern
24-01-2002, 08:54
Right that's two people that want to put a sub at each side. I might have to look at doing that as well then. As for the amp rack, I'm not sure how I'll be doing it yet. It might just be a pannel that you screw the amp to the side of so it can take amps of all sizes. I've not looked at that yet.
Problem is I might be re-doing the VanillaICE demo car so I can get 3 JL 12W3's in. I'll be trying to get it done by Donny so I could be busy until then.
Oh and anyone that is interested in my current build then I'm open to offers. I can send photos to anyone that's interested.
