Insurance for an LCR

Hi ive just sold my 2001 20vt mk1v golf gti aiming to upgrade to a leon cupra r but when i rang tesco they said i need two years no claims discount before they will insure me (january).The golf is a group 14 and a leon cr 17.
Is this the case with every insurer or just tesco?
Somehow i think i should of kept my golf till january!
Anyone know of any good insurers for lcr's and suchlike?thanks in advance.
