Dear all,

Help please! Only recently noticed a whooshing noise coming from near the engine when I rev the car (52 Leon 1.4S 4k miles) quickly. It's more of a sucking in air noise than blowing out. I had complained about some loss of power, slower response and rough running of engine about 3 weeks ago to the dealer.

Dealer plugged in VAG.com and no faults was found and was told that everything looks ok and it could be supermarket fuel although I've put it Esso.

Put in Redex fuel additive and switched to Optimax but still no change. I suspect that my problems could have something to do with the noise.

Anyone got any thoughts/suggestion. Thanks

Get a second opinion - often dealerships don't have a clue :(

Could be the inlet hose pulling air in after the MAF sensor or similar. This would make the ECU give incorrect fueling as more air would be there than expected I.E. lean mixture. Trouble with dealers is if the diagnostics says nothing, your a liar. Most suposed technicians are just incompetant fitters without any basic knowledge.

Whelme,

You might be right about lean mixture. I've notice less fuel consumption recently from 35mpg to 40mpg!

Hose connections seems ok. Will see if there's any black soot when reving

It could well be the throttle valve. I had a similar problem where I got a slight whoosh when starting to rev. I also noticed a small loss of power and slight flat spot. Diagnostic reported that the throttle valve was sporadic. This was re-set.

Try going back to the dealers and asking them to check this.

4ToThe Floor ,

Similar problems with your's but diagnostic showed nothing 3 weeks ago. Have booked a road test with dealer's technician on Sat.
