View Full Version : Greenlight......... Not impressed, more with myself than them though.
Been with Greenlight for 1 year and it was a good experience while it lasted.
Got a renewal letter through on 12th March but with doing house for impending arrival of a mini me I put it down and forgot about it. Picked it up today to find it ran out at midnight . Rang Greenlight at 11 to go ahead with renewal to be told that the policy has now lapsed and as I have no NCB  they cannot run me a new quote.
No NCB ????. Ok had 3 years when I went with them. Ran over some debris in road Oct 07 and wiped out 2 years NCB, then in Feb some :w4nk: ran into the side of me. Claimed through his insurance for this but still got NCB taken off me until claim is settled. Seems a little unfair to me.
I know I was late (by 11 hours) ringing for the renewal but my circumstances haven't changed in that time.
Really am very pi**ed off. Now got to ring round declare all mods and get class 1 business use with no NCB........... GOOD LUCK all because I was 11 hours late and the computer said NO.
From what you've said greenlight haven't done anything wrong and are not at fault, a little unfair yes but nothing to publically name and shame Greenlight for. Just my 2p worth.
Yeah I know and accept that it is my fault for not ringing them when I received the letter BUT what I am annoyed about is they now say I can not renew as I was late and have zero NCB yet up until midnight tonight I could have with exactly the same circumstances. Just seems a bit unfair. Plus all descisions are made by a computer and there is no human compassion, interaction or even understanding anymore.
Anyway without telling a few white lies about my mods I am unable to get below the £1400 mark. Where as the Greenlight renewal was £790.
Greenlight are brokers.
They had a renewal with your existing insurer that expired. That's not their fault.
After the renewal expires, they must approach their panel of insurers to get a new quote - but they couldn't get one because of your lack of NCB. Again, not their fault.
Lying about mods to get insurance cheaper is very foolish.
Yeah guess so just a bit annoying. Prob more annoyed with myself really.
What is their fault though is that they have taken NCB off me for an accident that was not my fault and is being pursued against the other driver to only give it back when the claim is settled. Why not just wait for the outcome then take it if I am deemed to have any fault?
Not paying £1400 for insurance though. Will take mods off if I have to.

............
Standard practice throughout the industry, I'm afraid.
Also have to say that ALL other insurance companies I have been with automatically continue with your premiums unless you contact them to cancel. Greenlight you have to contact them to continue otherwise they cancel. Seems a bit daft.
There is also no common sense being used here. I will be getting back 1 yrs NCB.
I have not had a quote below £1400 all day long and am fed up of trawlling the net and phoning up.

Give Elephant a go mate.
Im in the same boat and sadly Greenlight wont insure an Octavia :(|
Tried Adrian Flux and they were £1500. Not tried Elephant yet other than on the comparison sites but not hopeful. Think the main problem is that I effectively have no NCB!
Might have to go with one of the extortionate ones then send my proof of NCB when Greenlight re-instate it. Will get the discount then.
Premiums didn't increase they must have decided to wait until renewal.
One lesson (expensive one) learnt........... read your post carefully!

Hi
If you went with a higher quote based on zero NCB and the claim is settled you new insurer will reinstate the NCB from the start of their policy.
For example if you got a price with "Joe Bloggs" insurance at £1500 with zero NCB and £1000 with 1 years NCB. When the claim is settled you would get £500 refund issued even if you were 9 months into the policy.....Basically as the NCB is reinstated prior to their policy inception the refund is calcultated from the start date rather than when the NCB proof is recieved.
Sorry if the above is a bit complicated to understand but it means if the claim is settled quickly you would only be paying an increased price temporarily until the claim is settled in your favor.
Sorry we are unable to help this year but we require a minimum of 1 years NCB on all new policies so with NCB currently zero we are unable to help.
Best Regards

Yeah definately I know the insurer started doing some liverpool postcodes that had been previously excluded in january but had a number of claims so after a postcode review asked us to stop quoting. If the quote was within the 21 days guarentee period you could still take it out?

Cheers Neil, I thought this was the case.
I have however taken out a 28 policy and intend to try and sort the matter out with yourselves and KGM in order to get the NCB re-instated. I have an idea that I would like to run past you that may pursuade them to re-instate it.
I can't bring myself to pay the extortionate prices that these other companies are quoting and I really would like to stay with Greenlight.
I will ring you to discuss my thoughts.
