And there was me all happy with greenlight for the nice quote on the ibiza..

Called them today as i pick up the octavia vrs tomorrow and obviously need to switch the insurance over..

I was basically asked what car i was buying and was then told 'no sorry we dont insure skodas'.. I politely asked if this was a joke and if not why wont they insure a skoda to be told that they have had too many claims so its easier not to insure them..

Obviously i laughed in his face (over the phone lol) and asked for a manager to call... After getting the same response from the online 'change car' thingy i replied to the email letting them know how stupid i think this is...

I cant understand why they cant just add an extra premium to cars that have more claims rather than just not insuring them ? Obviously im now cancelling my policy as soon as the the new car is outside... and wont ever use them again.. Whats the point when they probably wont insure the car i want anyway ?

Just a bit of a warning really.. They might be really good with seats but pick another car and you may find they just dont want to know!!

Cheers
Dan

Thats why you shouldn't buy a skoda vrs!

I have heard this for other insurance companies but it usually only applies to fabia vrs not octavia.

I'm actually really surprised after all the good reviews!! Can't believe that...I've changed cars quite a lot in the last year so that would be a no no for me!!

trucido thats exactly why im posting this.. I expected a quick new quote and then all sorted.. But no they cant help... Quite surprised really as a few months ago i was singing their praises about how good they are

Im just wondering how many cars they do insure lol

oh and managed to find a nice cheap quote anyway so not too bothered in the end.. Just would have rather carried on that policy to get the years no claims rather than cancelling half way through!

Greenlight have stated on here before that they don't cover Skodas.

On our website clearly states the vehicles we exclude due to our bad claims experience please see: https://www.greenlightinsurance.com/carinsurance.php?Referrer=

We can quote for almost all performance models. Unfortunately the Skoda VRS models have performed terrible for us with a claim loss ratio of almost 300%. (so every £1 the insurer take in premium they are paying out almost £3 in claims)

Rather than increase our premiums accross the board to cover the losses of VRS models (and others cars that we have bad claims experience with) we would rather not offer quotes for these vehicles and keep our price competetive on the models that perform well for us.

If you had made us aware you were looking to change to a VRS mid policy we would of advised you not to renew the policy on the seat as it could not be changed to the VRS.

The insurer will offer a pro-ratta cancellation refund as they are unable to quote for the vehicle you are changing to (subject to no claim being made on the policy)

Sorry that we are unable to quote for your new vehicle. If for any reason your plans change and you dont get the VRS we would be happy to quote for any other performance model (providing its not in our excluded vehicle)

I could refer to the insurer to see if i could obtain a one off price for the VRS but i would expect it to be over 5 times the price you pay for the as the losses incurred on both fabia and octavia VRS models is over 5 times that of the Seat.

Also we do not advertise anywhwere to attract VRS models.

As a broker we don't want to turn away any customer and will only cancel a policy if we have no other choice.

Best Regards
Neil

My mate bought his gf a Fabia VRS which had a hybrid turbo, exhaust, suspension, filter and a few other mods. He found that insurance was more difficult to obtain at a reasonable price than his old 450bhp Escort Cosworth.

when i took out the policy i had no idea in a year and a half i'd be a daddy wanting an octavia vrs lol

Fair point i just didnt realise it wouldnt be covered.

Got the insurance on the VRS cheaper than i was paying on the cupra.. just.. but then its completely standard!

The argument against this should be, "I'm not insuring everybody else, just myself and as my driving record shows I have not crashed in ........... years".

However as usual it is the sensible people getting stung for the actions of the stupid.

I love this Country and it's funny ways.

I also love the way your renewal goes up every year despite not having had an accident, then when you haggle about it you get it back down (or nearly) to what it was the year before.

Now if the insurance company could offer it at that price in the first place then why are they trying to rip us off and how the hell can we trust them to do anything in the future if they can't even be trusted to give us a fair price?

Sorry for the rant this just got me going!!!!

I'll shut up now and get me coat.

This is interesting, never seen it before.

But I'm sure with the rising claims these days, other insurers are likely to follow suit in time to come.

Anyone know of a website that details the higher risk cars? IE those that get crashed the most?
Would be an interesting read when looking for a new motor.
