Hiya all

Just a quick query. I am going to be fitting the stereo out of my old car into my Ibiza PD130 (MY03). I have seen the guide in the forum about fitting a head unit, but im not sure if this is for the new ibiza or old, or infact whether they are both the same, so i was wondering if any of you could help out with some advice, and clearer diagrams if possible, on how to remove the head unit. Also, will i need to get a fascia panel to fit over the new(ish) one i put in? i have heard that the SEAT units are not quite the same size as a standard head unit, so will this mean i need spacers or anything like that? After i have done this, i will be running wires to the back of the car for the amps, sub, cd etc and i will also be changing the front speakers......i know this is lazy but does anyone know offhand the size of them? Any helpful pointers to any aspect of what i will be doing will be gratefully appreciated!

and on a diff note, i was trying to post a pic of the car a few days ago, for those who may be interested and my technological capabilities seem to have failed me as i couldnt do it!
any idiot proof pointers on that will also be gratefully received!

thanks in advance :)

Jono.

The leon's hole is bigger, but the Ibiza's is the right size. But the compartment thing below it is curved outwards, so on my Sony you see stuff you shouldn't bit naff, but not sure if there is anything you can do about it.

I didn't use keys to pull the old stereo out, just cut up a credit card.

16.5cm I believe. I yet to read a bad word about focals....

the hole is a std din size

SEAT units are very slightly bigger so they dont need a frame to fit in

Leon is wider and needs blanks either side if using a non Oe unit

try your unit in - you will probably find its loose - so use the usually supplied cage/frame unit - problem solved

yes, you do need the cage in too. It can be a bit tricky to get out if it is tight unless you have the right keys. I used some old kenwood keys to unclip the catches but there is nothing to hold on to to pull the unit out. You can always pull out the empty tray thing underneath if necessary to get a better hold (it just pulls straight out with a good yank)

Thanks for that, cheers for the help.I do like the front speakers that are in there, for standard kit they seem to cope nicely, although when i got in the old car the other day and switched on the tunes, i have to say i cant wait to get my phoneix gold's in there! I will try and have a go at it tomorrow, presuming nothing else crops up! Ive just got back from a round trip of about 300 miles today and i have to say that the ibiza really is a joy to drive, quiet and fairly comfortable (although i still have an issue with the upper support of the seats), and above all the car always seems to be able to hold the interest of a driver, which is the real sign of a 'drivers' car i think. i do like the low down torque as well! ....those TDI Golfs will try their luck wont they...:p

must start thinking about REVO......

cheers again guys :)

I went to my Seat dealer who lent me the relevant keys for 5 mins whilst I removed the radio.

fitting an after market headunit is commonplace amongst most owners of seat's of any model,as can be found on here most people have done just this.
However, installing a non standard H/U will invalidate your warrenty, as sometimes it will through up a fault code on the Diagnostic machine (vagcom). Then if you have a fault with your car and this as well as the electrical H/U fault is registered on your vehicle, eyebrows will certainly be raised by the SEAT dealer and you will struggle with any warrenty claims.
SEAT are now getting very uneasy with modifications aspects to cars and in my own experiance I have found the H/U mod is the one they most turn a nose up at and due to this I have struggled with warrenty issues.
not trying to put you off the idea in any way just making sure you are aware of all the issue's when modifing and the bigger picture.

ive heard of dealers getting a bit twitchy when it comes to mods, but for a headunit? i was under the impression that if a fault occurs that is directly caused or influenced by a modification, then it voids that part of the warranty, and even then not the whole thing. Still, i will definitely check it out! It seems a shame to void a whole warranty just cause of a kenwood mask lol! I know what these dealers can be like!
Thanks for that dan!

Totally agree with your statement-not trying to say your whole warrenty will be voided just a word of warning that the non oe H/U can cause all sorts of fun and games when it comes to warrenty issues with SEAT.
At the end of the day Modified Tinted windows cannot be to blame for an engine problem and such-the problem has to be directly linked to the fault.
But in the case of the none standard H/U it can put a fault onto the cars diagnostic system and as this is the tool now all mechanics use to verify the car functions fine......

Rage-I would strongly advise to retract your comments made above as SEAT are regular visitors to the site.

Valid point I hadn't thought of that.

Replacing the HU on a SEAT should not cause any diagnostic codes to appear, HOWEVER there has been a long standing problem that some HUs / adapters put 12 volts onto the K-line that is used by the 1551/1552/VAG-COM for communicating with the ECU, HU, ABS units etc. The result can be one dead diagnostics system which both SEAT and the dealer would not like!

I would suggest consulting your dealer before changing the HU and when taking the vehicle in for any work refit the original HU.

Or check that your headunit doesn't put 12v on the K line by either using a multimeter or a 12v LED between the ground pin and the K line pin. Also the fuse can be removed ( As revo do ) which will remove power from the head unit so solving the problem.

Rage-which is the K line connection on my beeza?
When you doing my boot build, got MDF and Alacantara now:dope:

I know the fault you are on about on the k line, blowing fuses and such but I have seen it where it actually registers a fault on vagcom,it read Electrical fault .......

Becoming increasingly Pissed off with SEAT everyday that passes, personally everyone I have dealt with at SEAT has been a completehttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/tosser1.gif

VAG-COM threw up stereo and speaker faults on my ibiza at IMG, aftermarket H/U and speakers replaced the standards.

Rage-which is the K line connection on my beeza? All pinouts for OBDII are listed here. (http://www.geocities.com/vaginfo/)

When you doing my boot build, got MDF and Alacantara now

If you're prepared to leave your car with me for 4-5 days and hand over a nice big wad of cash. I'll gladly do you a boot build.
