View Full Version : Choice of Chip for my 110 TDi Leon!

I've decided to do it, can't wait any longer! Had it for 15 months now and 26k miles, need more power now!!!
I've more or less written off Superchips due to price and some poor reviews, although if anyone disagrees I'd like to hear why. I've narrowed it down to Upsolute or JabbaSport. The Upsolute looks very cheap, only £174. Haven't checked the price of the Jabba yet as they're shut today.
I want the best performance possible without modding any other parts of the car (don't want to de-cat because of the hassle of re-catting at service intervals etc).
My questions to anyone who's done this are:
- Is the Jabba Postal remap almost as good as a custom job?
- What's the difference between the Upsolute and the Jabba software?
- Does anyone know if Upsolute offer a self fit postal service too?
Thanks!
have you considered Revo?
When I was at JABBA this week I'm pretty sure that Mike said they could do serial tuning on diesels, thus it being alot quicker meaning alot cheaper than the custom rolling road jobby I got (£425 inc. VAT). Mine was still a bargain though.
Just phone Mike for a crack about it, even if you don't go the JABBA route you'll learn alot about this subject off him, they don't call him 'the professor' for nothing.

Yet, someone on here has got 153hp RR confirmed from an Upsolute chip. IMHO they seem to be better at TDi chips than petrol.

Thanks for all of your replies. I can't see a price for the revo TDi software on their site, but as the petrol prices are all around the 500 quid mark I think my budget rules them out!
Think it's gonna have to be the upsolute software. I've heard of a company called Oetinger too, but don't know anything about their pricing or performance.
I'll ring Upsolute this week and see what the best deal is!
AFAIK Jabba don't have a chip for older TDI ie non PD available yet. Think this is also the same for Revo.
Last time I emailed them (Jabba) they said it would be available in a month or so.
Seen some info on TDI club on SpeedTuning and a number of tuning box makes.
You've got quite a few choices if you don't want to wait for Revo:
Upsolute
Kempower
Wettauer
Of these I think Upsolute seem the best.
Oettinger & ABT are quasi-OEM companies, excellent products, but for some reason the produce less power than the other companies (around 132hp).

Do you know what PS and Torque you get from your REVOd Toldedo prc?

Haven't RRd mine yet, but mines originally a 150PD TDI not a 110. I think it would be quite close to Simon (Rage's) 130 TDI.

I emailed Simon who a few other posters here have met and had fit chips to their cars, and he is going to come to my house in Norfolk and fit the Upsolute chip for £305. Seems like a fairly good deal to me, just waiting to arrange a time :)

Theres millions out there, hopa, jabba, upsolute, APR. You can usually get about 135bhp and 200ft lb from the 110.
i wouldnt bother with the serial for the money/gains but if you are loaded then what the heck.

I'm Upsoluting this Thursday! Confirmed!
I just hope the difference is worth it and very noticeable, although looking at others chipping experiences I think it will be.
Can't wait to blast away those GOLF GTTDi s !!!

Mike @ Jabba has been doing 110 & 115 TDi's for some time.
I would check again if I were you.

I know they bdo the 115 but didn't think the 110's were covered.
No info on their website on the 110's

My 110 TDi has now got an Upsolute chip in it! Overall I'm very very happy with the performance and the service. Simon from CCC Tech Sheffield fitted the chip yesterday lunchtime, and a short test drive easily confirms the extra power and torque available.
After a few more miles (about 100) I can definitely say its made an enormous difference to the overall enjoyment of my car! The difference is mainly noticeable in the far greater amount of torque available at lower revs. You can hear the turbo spinning up earlier than before, and a little faster too, and the pressure on your back in the seat as you plonk your foot down in third gear at 30 mph is very nice! In top gear, 50,60 ish mph, put your foot down and the increase in power is really obvious, 50 to 80 times must be a lot shorter now.
Had one minor moment of doubt when about ten miles after fitting the chip, at 30 mph in granny mode in 5th gear and 1000 rpm, the engine suddenly seemed to be trying to seek out the right fueling settings, the car started to accelerate and slow in a kind of sine wave for a few seconds. SOLUTION: I stopped driving like a granny to see how much fuel I could NOT use, and drove normally for a while, and now all is well however I drive. I put this glitch down to the adaptive part of the ECU setting up the fuel map from new, as it would have been reset when the ECU was disconnected from the power.
FUEL ECONOMY:
Seriously - ENORMOUS difference. Driving normally, according to my trip computer I am now averaging 56mpg, previously my average was about 43mpg (Im lead footed). This means the extra insurance cost (£150 a year with Privilege) and the cost of the £305 chipping service will be paid for by the extra fuel economy, about 20% improvement. I was only expecting about 10%, so this is a real bonus.
I would recommend Upsolute to other TDi 110, owners out there!

Inspired by what I read here I decided I had to improve the performance of my Leon 110TDi. I searched out many of the previous comments and eventually decided Upsolute was the best option for me.
Simon Coe of CCC Tech (07957 240822) came down to fit the new chip and his service was excellent, Simon was actually early on the day, had it all done by mid morning and showed me how to remove the ECU in case I need to reverse the process later.
So what’s it like….. superb ! Every bit as good as earlier comments said. The extra mid range urge when overtaking is probably the best bit for me but even standing starts are better - I'm sure a few petrol heads must be wondering '.. can that really be a diesel ?'. I can really enjoy the car as its now got the power to take advantage of the ‘sport’ suspension. Also, cos it’s quieter/smoother under acceleration I don’t get too many comments from the usual passenger !
The economy improved from 53 to 60mpg – calculated on a one tank refill to refill and driving like the pre-chip days, but has fallen back to about 56mpg since as I didn’t go for the upgrade for economy !
Problems ? Possibly a slight rumble type noise from the dual mass flywheel but this isn’t at full bore so it might be that its always been there but with a quieter engine I can hear it now. Also, an occasional flat spot just over 2000rpm which I cannot find any consistency to but can be a little unnerving when it happens.
Do I think its worth it ? Yes, every penny, shame I can’t afford to change to the new Leon 130TDi and get Simon to work his magic on that !
Hay chaps, check your MAF. My 110 is running at least 150bhp with larger injector only.
The performance was good, but not what I had expected. So I got it rolling road I had 110 at the wheels at 3000rmp, then power droped to 80 bhp.
This was due to the duff MAF. So must have more than 110 at the wheel, as max power with the bigger injectors is apround 3500-3600 rpm.
If you've got laggy throttal responce then your MAF is naff.

How much is a new MAF?
I keep expecting mine to go so will now have to pay for it as the warranty ran out at the beginning of June.
Incidentally I can also recommend Simon from CCC Tech (Upsolute),nice bloke, good service.....
....Right I'm off to Ibiza....see ya!
I paid £218 all in including full dynotics check and reset.
Could have got one for around £150 (+ vat?) + postage + fitting from Simon @ Central VW Audi.
But glad I got it fitted the spring clip was very strong on mine. Wouldn't have been fun messing with that with my limited tools.
Also know of a place that just does the sensor bit, the bit secured by the tamperproof screws for £75 + vat + postage. But with that part you have no idea if they have sent the correct part, except for there word.

Just back off me hols....£218 ouch....wonder how much German and Swedish etc do them for....then again that £218 isn't too bad if the bit comes with a decent warranty as genuine parts should and when it next goes you could just take the car back with the reciept....???
Was a bit on the high side, got a price £150 else where and also one of £75 for just the sensor bit.
But I was there they had done a full dynostic check, taken me for a drive to show that it was down and then fitted the new one.
To be honest I just wanted the VERY nice drive home :D other wise I knew that I'd be another month or so before I could get it sorted.
Got an email from www.seatspares.com, i think thats the right addy and they said that they where doing just the sensor bit for a good price and they give 10% of to members.

Where did you get it done?
Keep expecting mine to go (may have already as the performance is okay but the fuel consumption is only 40mpg ish so about 25% down on what it used to be - always blamed the injectors but could be the MAF?).
How does she pull over 3000 rpm? I went to Autotechic in Gillingham. VW specilist.
But at £75 ish it might be worth getting one just to see.
See if anyone on here has got Vag-com. At round 3000-4000 rmp is should be showing 800mg of air, mine was showing 400mg at best. With me MAF it toped out at 1000mg :D

With chip and injectors it seems to go well at all RPM's!
Seemed to go well with just injectors at higher RPM's too, just the fuel economy that's been bugging me.:(
Where did you get it chipped?
What bhp have you got now?

Upsolute Simon did the re-chip, and it's a bit of an experiment really, bearing in mind the injectors - my thinking being that 1)Simon is a good bloke! and 2) the Yanks use Upsolute chips with Kerma nozzles with success so thought I'd give it a try; and Simon said they could do a suitable program with maybe a bit of trial and error to make perfect - So here goes!
Not sure what power it's putting out but shifts quite nicely on the road with maybe a bit of smoke on hard acceleration. Only done a couple of hundred miles on it as I've been away for a couple of weeks and it's not my daily driver anyway (Drove to the Bristol Volksfest and back in it and that's about all!)
Will see how it goes and report back to Simon, seems good so far though.
BeezerDiesel, what injectors are you running ?
BeezerDiesel

VanAaken injector nozzles (probably Kerma type) on a 90bhp Beezer.
