ok folks, gonna need a wee bit of advice now,
was down halfords, (yes halfords) and was about to fork out for a pioneer oel headunit, £299, with free fitting, then i found out that it wont drive my changer (grundig standard jobbie) so what I really need to know, in lay mans terms is where I can go from here, really want a pioneer unit, but dont want to fork out for another changer also.
on the speakers front, is there any particular make/model that i should be going for, baring in mind that i like my tunes but not "that" much, so price will be a factor..
fire ayaw boys , please, im desperate!! need to be able to turn it up ad not worry about being laughed at cause of the distortion!:repuke:
I've run quite a few different head units in all the cars i've owned and the alpine that i currently own has the best sound quality that i have heard yet for the price !! (althoughthe RF headunit was probably slightly better but lots more money and a bit boring looking),
One feature to particularly look for if you do get an Alpine is called BBE, this really brings music to life!, adding some extra zest and vitality that i havent ever heard in a head unit before!, it really separates all the instruments in a piece of music and just brings them to life!!, if your ever down this way you can have a demo of it in my car!
Oh, and forgot to say that most car hifi can be bought cheaper on the web!, so listen to it in halfords then buy on the web!!

yea mate, have bbe on my bedroom hifi, is really good at pinpointing the more trebley type freq's,
what sort of money should i be paying for a decent set of speakers, rear 6x4's dont like anything over the ninth increment out of 50!! so the balance usually sits 3 or 4 to the fronts!! and even the fronts dont like bass or even the higher freq's , so basically i want new 17cm's for door and 6x4's or else a wee 8" or 10" sub for boot with a wee amp, also , is there any way round drilling the bulkhead for access for the leads??
Although if you feel like caning your speakers to within an inch of their life:D , BBE is best turned off temporarily,as it does distort slightly easier with it on at very high volume levels!,
I have got some MB Quart 16.5cm (6.5") two way component speakers for mine with a separate crossover but still havent got around to fitting them yet even though i have had the car for a year now!!!,
In my old car they had an unbelieavably good sound quality, but the tweeters (liquid cooled titanium domed) are best mounted down low on the door panel as they can sound slightly harsh if fitted up top on the dash, but having said that, you will get better imaging if they are mounted close to the mid speaker low in the door anyway!, the mid/bass drivers use neodym magnets so are really light and the magnet size on the back is tiny so you shouldnt have any mounting depth problems with them either

Brendy DON'T touch those rears mate. That size of speaker will never get a nice sound. Get some quality front comps and a sub, you won't regret it.
Mail me and I'll give you some more info. Oh and you don't have to drill the bulkhead.

Go on Mosser get round to fitting them. I was wondering about a set of MB Quarts a while back - would like to know what the difference is like. Considering the standard speakers have a pretty reasonable sound I was wondering how much you would have to spend to hear a reasonable difference. My guesstimate is that you would have to spend somewhere around £80-£100 to match the sound quality of the std speakers.
Ok!, i wanna do it anyway so if i get time i will attackthe job on sunday!, am redecorating the bathroom and retiling on saturday
Damn!, was just thinking i could start taking the door cards off at work today (when i finally go in!!), but just remembered i havent got my car!, its down in bristol having its LPG conversion done at the moment!, should be back by friday hopefully though,
I'm driving a crappy nissan 100nx which is 10 times slower shan my Leon!, when you watch the speedo climb it goes 61......62......63......64......65......66......67.....,
My leon goes 60..70..80..90..100..110 int he same amount of time!!!, the highest speed i have managed to get out of it so far is 91Mph and it feels like i am doing 180Mph!!, everything shakes and rattles, all the mirrors go blurry and the engine is screaming!!, all that for 91!!
