View Full Version : 02M and 02J Engine mounts in two densities, street density and track density
As above.
These are avaialbe through a company in America, I have been incontact with him and gotten this responce
"I am still selling these and the retail price on them is 300US. How big of a discount depends on how many orders you are doing. If you are buying say 5 sets I can do #edit#/set. If you buy 10 sets I can do #edit#/set and shipping to UK is approx 90US. Of course that also depends on the weight."
These have been very popular on VW Vortex and are waaaayyyy cheaper than the ones I've been quoted for in Britian. The dollar/pound price is still great just now so at 10 sets this is approx £115 for the engine mounts and the dog bone mount plus shipping.
See below information
We are VERY excited to be announcing the release of our 034Motorsport Street Density and Track Density transmission mounts for the Mk4 5-speed 1.8t applications!
We've been testing these mounts for some time to ensure they are reliable and meet the criterion for the intended use - results so far are very exciting!
WHAT THEY ARE: A new line of rubber motor mounts made FOR us by OE suppliers to OUR specifications.
STREETDENSITY Mounts
solid rubber mounts with a 50 durometer about 25% stiffer than stock, this means they still ride smooth and quiet but provide a marked improvement in drivetrain dampening over stock mounts.
Livable street performance with serious sport intentions. Note, don’t mistake these mounts with OE mounts, though they look almost identical, the rubber stiffness very vastly, think of these mounts as what the factory would have produced if they weren’t catering the car to whiney cheerleaders.
TRACKDENSITY Mounts:
built with an 80 durometer rubber, approx 90% stiffer than stock, these are solid for all practical purposes and result in ZERO drivetrain movement. Vibrations from the engine are noticeably increased but not horrible. Definitely not smooth and quiet like stock mounts, but in return you get a completely locked down drivetrain with NO slop or deflection. These are perfect for the street/track enthusiast who doesn't mind a marked increase in vibration from the drivetrain, or the hardcore drag racer or track driver who is eliminating all slop in the chassis.
Performance with serious sport intentions. Note, don’t mistake these mounts with OE mounts, though they look almost identical, the rubber stiffness very vastly, think of these mounts as what the factory would have produced if they weren’t catering the car to whiney cheerleaders.
NOTE, THIS IS NOT AN OE MOUNT AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE - These are built by an OE supplier to 034Motorsport specifications.
These mounts will fit all MK4 1.8t and 2.0 5-speed cars, and includes the motor mount, transmission mount, and dogbone. Priced less than OE mounts, these are a no brainer for the street or track enthusiast.

There are sepperate prices for just the engine mounts, I will get this if anyone is interested but thought most people would jump at the chance of a better dog bone mount that will control their transmittion better without having to stick to the nylon ones.
I'm planning on ordering these pretty soon but if there is good interest and people need a month or so to save up then I'll easily wait for them.
The comment of the guys who have these on their cars is that unless your car is solely a track car then the Street density ones are the ones to go for.
Right there are four of us interested in this GB just now.
We need one more person to get us the $240 set plus shipping. In real money thats £120 plus shipping and if you've looked into this in any way you'll know this is a great deal.
I maybe interested in this as well.
Do you have any price on postage and will we pay vat?
Can you give final price to my door.
Cheers
I might also be interested. I'm planning on spending around 1k on mods later in the year (money/situation permitting) and I'm mainly going for handling and a few engine part upgrades so at this price it's something extra I could easily justify adding to the list.
I am interested in a set as well, put me down as a definate for the street mounts.
With 7 people interested now I'll get more info ASAP.
I'll look into either getting it sent out individually, getting sent out to me for the Scottish guys and one person for the English guys or Get them all sent to me and I'll distrubute them all.
It entirely up to the individual how they want to play it.
I'll get back to you on this
well I could recieve the english shipment and drop them off for JayMD and FLK as I go to Staffordshire on business regularly, I also travel across yorkshire and cumbria so could accomodate quite a large area depending on how quickly people want them

SO, will these fit the LCR ?? You say only 5 speed gearboxes above, but you have a LCR right juniorsenior.
Also I already have an uprated dog bone (polybush) - will this one (streetdensity) be any better??
Favourable anyswers to the above and I will stick my name down,
Cheers.

My thoughts exactly.
Well what the script with this is that the VAG MK4 1.8T have 5 speed boxes in the USA.
Our transmission is the 02M which is the same coupled to the same engine.
I have the uprated poly bush in my LCR and as I understand poly bushes have a life span, this has been in for about 2 years and was thinking about changing it anyway. The problem with poly bushes is that because they are so hard and resilient they don't give (much) but they also don't reform when compressed like rubber can.
I'm going to get the full set, fit the street density dog bone mount and see how I like it. If I don't like it I'll sell it (this covers 02m and 02J so shouldn't be a problem to sell as that covers loads of VAG's).
I only asked for a price for the set as the difference between the set ansd the engine mounts themselves was very little coupled with the possible revenue from selling either the new dog bone mount or my old one with poly bush made it a more attractive proposition.
But to cut the crap I think the new dog bone mount will give all the benifits of the uprating but with none of the negatives of the poly ones.
I'm going for the street density ones, I'm going to be tracking my car quite alot so will benifit from the uprated bush but without getting a huge amount of vibration through the cabin that the stiffer ones on the market 'might' give.
I have a friend that just fitted OEM ones on a car the same age but less miles than mine. He said the difference was very noticable. So I'm thinking with a little upgrade in Durometer (10 points) I'll get the best of both worlds but with none of the vibrations (as my car will continue to be my road/family car aswell.

SO they will fit a LCR...?!
Any idea on prices for fitting.
Yes they will.
They fit all 02M transmissions which include the LCR.
As for fitting its a case of supporting the engine, unbolting the old mounts and fitting the new ones. Same for dog bone mount but support the gear box.
Would it be possible to get a price for all replacement bolts as it may be cheaper than buying them over here.
put me down for a full set, including any bolts i would need :)

Heres the reply I got from the guy about firm shipping costs.
I asked this before the point was brought up about the bolts.
Shipping 1 set with or without the dogbone you are looking @ 75US
Shipping 2 Sets you are looking @ approx 135US
Shipping 10 sets you are looking @ about 300US if so much.
This is going off an estimate of an order i did to UK last year.
I can drop ship all the mounts for you to wherever you want. The price of the mounts still remains @ #edit#/set if you buy 10 sets.
The customs aspect could be about 20% of the price, this is very unlikely to be added but if it was this is covered in the GB discount for buying 10 sets.
Let me know how you want to play this with shipping, collecting money etc.
Buy the sounds of it we could all pay our own to the guy and these could be sent out in any quantity we needed.
Sorry if this messes you about but I've decided not to modify my car now as I need the money I planned to spend for more important things.
I could be interested
any idea how much could it roughly cost to get the engine mounts fitted?Need to know this first junior.

Sorry I don't know how much it would be. It's a very quick and easy job so I would suggest 1 hours labour max.

It's not a problem, thanks for letting me know
I may be interested depending on final cost.
If possible could you get price with new bolts and final cost to uk.
As 'dssr' (Dave) mentioned mine could be delivered to him as we are local.
Cheers
TBH I think the bolts will work out costing more due to increased shipping weight.
I'll try to find out the size and grade of bolts. We have heaps of fixings suppliers around here, I could probably get them cheaper here than getting them shipped over from the USA. Perhaps dssr could source these in you area.
I'll see what I can find out
I changed the engine mounts on my last Octy and had no problems re-using the original bolts, I dont recall them being stretch bolts, torque them up correctly and they should be fine
Bolts are one-use.
When I got my ECS cambelt / waterpump kit, it included new motor mount bolts.
Right guys, I'm going to put a finish date of the end of May on this.
Hopefully this will allow us to get our mounts by mid June and fitted soon after for this summers track day events:)
So last day of May for this.
Right guys, just to whett your appetitie a bit more here is the post off of www.vwvortex.com for these mounts.
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3566881
The most popular choice for all but full track set up is street density engine mounts and track density dog bone mounts.
There is the option for getting bolts aswell so will ask for a price shipped.
What are we thinking about in terms of how we want these shipped?
For the Scottish people we can easily get these shipped to me then deliver these out.
For the English guys are you happy the "dssr" takes delivery of these and sorts out the shipping to yourselves.
These options would be the easiest and it is possible for each person to pay for these themselves directly to the supplier and still have these shipped out to two people.
I'm thinking I want to fit mine very soon so if we're all still interested and we can get the money together quickly we'll get these ASAP.
Roll on this summers track days:)

Yup good point
The price we pay will be an equal % if the cost to buy, including the customs, shipping, tax and delivery costs (with in Britian) I'm sure you'll all agree this is fair.
If your not happy to pay these costs please opt out now before these are purchased.
I will endevour to get a total cost to you all ASAP but take the prices above as a close guestimate and it shouldn't be far off.

excellent, more people on the whole GB then
JunioSenior, do you know when you will be want the money for this (how we paying by the way?) and when do you think these will actually get delivered
will they be in by July 1st, just so when the car goes to AMD for the map I can get these fitted at the same time
Thanks
The guy said we can all pay him individually if we want.
I'm planning on ordering mine by the end of the week
If everyone get their act together then the 1st of July should be very easy
I'm still waiting on one guy getting back to me, if he does we'll have 10 people therefore $220 for the full sets. I'll have to get back to the guy asking for a price for the engine mounts only.
I'll email him tomorrow with all the questions including a price with the bolts aswell.
If anyone has any questions either post here or PM me and I'll get all the questions asked in a oner.
brandon888
25-05-2008, 21:47
is the $220 for the full set include the postage to uk
Little tip for those who have posted that they want Engine mounts and no Dogbone mount....The DB Mounts sell VERY well on Ebay, especially uprated ones if you do a good advert ( hint hint given they are only £20-30 cost you should at least double that, I have an EIP Mount fitted but I am buying the full kit! for just that reason)
Snap, me too.
I've got the poly bush in there just now, I'm going to try the track density one, if I don't like it I'll ebay it r sell it on here.
The #edit# is the price to buy only, depends how we get these shipped. To get the set shipped to your house its $90, plus you might have to pay import tax and duty which would be about 20%.
So worst case senario it'll be $360, which is £180
If your already looking at buying these for an after market dealer in Britian your looking at double this.
Hope this helps.
I'm going to be emailing the guy tonight, (USA approx 6 hours behind us) plese let me know of any final questions to ask him before I wrap this one up. It would be good to have the ten but if not were still getting a very good product for a very good price.
Sorry guys, although I appear to have my problems fixed now, between road tax, insurance, kids birthdays, etc., I can't buy the mounts just now, my apologies.
Rob if you want these later on I'm sure after everyone reports back how good these are there will be more people wanting these;)
Right email sent to get the actual prices of the sets with bolts and a set without the dog bone mount.

UPDATE!!
William 8 is fine really, lets get this show going: Each person CAN pay individually BUT in order to split the shipping cost I will need to send to 1 address in the UK.If I am sending to each individual address then there is no way I can split shipping. Price for 1 dogbone ,1 engine mounts & 1 transmission as we agreed was 240US/Set.If you want bolts add $5US/corner to the total ($15US for all 3 mounts). To ship to either Scotland or England is going to be roughly the same in shipping because the mounts are coming from California. USPS is still going to have a field day with me when it comes to shipping.I would say about 90US for the mounts. As soon as payment is made I will process
The only big change is that we need to send all of this order to one address to get the benifit of the reduced shipping rates. The last price I got was $300 for ten sets so for 8 I would expect the same price really.
Also see above that the bolts will be $15 for all the mounts which seems fair to me
If were all agreed that we are all happy with this please post here to say your happy with this deal and we'll get it sorted by the end of the week hopefully
Is paypal payment okay for everyone??
brandon888
26-05-2008, 20:17
im happy ..... think everyone wants the bolts ! so what is the final price ...?
So final price is $240 for the engine mount and dog bone mount set and $15 for the bolts for these items.
Don't have a final price for shipping yet as need to see if dsrr is happy to take delivery of these then ship them out to people. If not then I'll get them shipped to me then I'll ship them out to people
Right I have the final prices here
$240 + $15 = $255
We have 8 sets coming at $380 to ship these to 1 address, so
380 / 8 = $47.50
So to get your engine mount/dog bone mount set into Britian (not including customs - 20%)
will be
$255 + $47.50 = $302.50
I think its only fair that whoever takes the delivery of these sets gets the 20% from everyone. If its not asked for then this WILL be refunded
20% of $302.50 is $60.5
So $302.50 to Issam and $60.5 to the person who takes delivery of these sets
There will also be a cost to ship these to people within Britian, the individual parcels will be
12" x 12" x 8" and weigh 15 lbs
A quick look on parcel forces web site says a parcel will be from £14.99 for 2 day delivery with say £2 packaging costs
When I get the package sizes and weights then I'll be able to give you a costing for this.
I'll see if he can mark down the price of the value of the goods on the custom docket to see if we can avoid any chanrges but until we are 100% that we don't have the charges then this has got to be paid to the person recieving the goods in Britian, I hope you all see this as being fair
So £152 ($302.50) + £30 ($60.50) + £17 = £199 All included
Willie, that's fine with me, full set + Bolts and I can pay you by Paypal as soon as you need it!
speedinsaxo
27-05-2008, 16:44
I am happy with that - but do you know it's 20%??
Why not just send them all to someone, we pay £152 now and when that person has them, knows what has been charged at customs and how much it costs to send them out to us in UK - we can send further money and he can send them to us on receipt of this extra customs/postage charge. Saves any refunds later. I have a feeling it's more than 20%....
Cheers,
John
speedinsaxo, its a very difficult one this, I've never bought anything from the USA. But I believe that the customs don't always get in touch and even if they do it might be later on, much later.
I'm not willing to have to try and chase up people that now have their goods and I'm getting hit for their inport duty and I'm sure dsrr is of the same feeling. One person cannot be expected to pay for everyones duty.
Either that or we decide a figure and pay this to the person recieving the goods like say 20%
What do youz think?
speedinsaxo
28-05-2008, 13:00
Everything I have bought has either slipped through, or charged straight away. You have to pay the shipping company as they pay on your behalf usually.
I don't mind, which ever way is easier.
Try and research exactly how much dust will be added and charge it up front.
Perhaps your first thought would be better then, the reciever gets all the kits then when he gets charged we all pay our dues then we get our stuff from him
Sound fair by everyone??
jamiebennett81
28-05-2008, 13:23
Perhaps your first thought would be better then, the reciever gets all the kits then when he gets charged we all pay our dues then we get our stuff from him

sounds easier and more understandable
what I would suggest is everyone makes payment FIRST, then upon the relevant money given to the person co-ordinating this then places the relevant order for people who have paid
that way it means people who said they want some, but never pay up, does not leave the actual buyer out of pocket?
so I would suggest someone takes all the money via paypal, cash, cheque what ever, once all the orders and money are in, make the actual order to the US
upon delivery the organiser distributes the kits?
sound like a plan Junior?
As stated above, the reciever WILL be charged the customs charges, the way it works is that the courier will recieve the goods as a freight forwarder, they will then write to the recipient of the goods to advise customs charges and a handling fee ( usually about £8 per consignment) Import fees are usually 3-4% then the VAT plus the Handling fee and from my experience usually work out around 26% when all is taken into account. The customs duties MUST Be paid prior to the goods being released so we could work it that the price of the goods is paid by each individual, then on reciept of a letter from the courier stating how much is owed in duties, this can be forwarded to each individual to pay there bit to the Recipient ( bare in mind that as the recipient of the kits is acting like a Hub for distribution YOU will need to pay the Paypal transaction fees for your payment otherwise the one person ends up ££ out of pocket)......I hope that this makes sense

yeah i agree ! think is better do a bank transfer or cheque in that way we save a little fee by doin it on paypal . at the end of the day the reason for group buy is try to save some money so little bit of saving we get is better ..
Sounds like paypal is the best Idea then. The seller would like there to be one payment to be paid by paypal to him, this would not tinclude the customs payments as these would be seperate.
So we need one person (me) to collect all the payments for the kits and one person (maybe dsrr) to collect all the customs/handling charge payments.
This way no one is out of pocket and we get the best deal possible for the cheapest price

ok so to clarify,
we send one payment for purchase of the actual kits - sales@ianengineering.com - What is the total cost of payment
(presume this also includes shipment of kits from US and to peoples houses?)
we send the other payment to Issams for the customs money - address TBC - What is the total cost?
thanks

We all send
$255 + $47.50 = $302.50 to Issam at sales@inaengineering.com
For the kits, bolts and share of the shipping costs
The customs will be charged when it arrives in Britian, this is going to dsrr.
So we also need to send however much the customs cost is plus shipping costs from dsrr's to our own house, when this has arrived and the costs have been worked out

David I only recieved your payment...no one elses. They need to go back and cancel that payment and someone needs to edit there post before we end up in MORE problems.
When the Mounts are delivered, and I have the exact customs charges etc it will work out at 3.6% to the total amount outstanding to cover Paypal fees, I will post exactly how much is owed and by whome ( I have calculated this from the last 4 transactions I have been paid for) if anyone wants to pay by cheque that is also fine but I will have to wait approx a week for the cheque to clear
JUNIOR SENIOR please DELETE post number 76 as you have posted the incorrect e-mail address for payment
JAMIEBENNET please DELETE Post numbers 75 AND 77 for the same reason....can we make sure that NO MORE e-mails are posted or copied other than the CORRECT ONE FOR PAYMENT WHICH IS
sales@inaengineering.com
The posting of incorrect e-mails is causing confusion and payment to an unknown e-mail address:confused:
Please dont forget the 3% paypal charge!
Take the total you need to give me ....add the 3% and then do the currency conversion
First of all:redface:
Right my post is edited
My initial transaction has been cancelled and the money sent to
sales@INAENGINEERING.COM
Which is the correct address, sorry all
So you should all be paying
$311.60 this includes paypal charges

Done
Don't forget you won't pay any tax/vat on the carriage only the goods amount.
Dave, will txt/speak to you on monday.
pretty sure duty and vat is paypable on the whole amount (including the shipping) if it's over the £18 customs limit
dsrr, do you need my details? i've not had confirmation that my set manged to get sent out, but i've not had the paypal sent back as yet.
Duty etc should only be payable on physical goods not on the postage as far as I know, send me your details and I'll contact INA to see if yours has made the shipment
you MAY be right on the duty bit.
i know for a fact that VAT is applied to the whole lot though :(
Well soon find out I guess! can the people wh have NOT mailed their contact details do it sooner rather than later.....if you want your mounts that is!
you got a PM - lmk if you need anything else :)
from: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageVAT_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000014&propertyType=document#P115_10821
Duty is charged on the price paid for the goods including any local sales taxes plus postage, packing and insurance costs.
VAT is then added on top
Any progress with this guys?
ETA or shipping code to track this order?
'dsrr' do you have all the information you need to get these kits out to everyone?
Issam do you have all the money?

just so I can book in a date with my garage to get these fitted, as they did comment on the dog bone mount and that it does really need replacing........
I would imagine I will be getting the request for payment of Duty in the next day or so, the shipment is still in customs according to the USPS Website.
I will ship on receipt of payment for the customs / delivery charges, paypal / postal order I will ship next day, cash on collection or if by cheque on clearing of the cheque.

Did you give dsrr our details?
Right, I have recieved the customs payment demand this morning and paid it online, came to £122.64 in total so divided by the 9 mount packages ordered this comes to £13.62 each for the duties and customs side of things, I will recieve them tomorrow from Parcelforce, package them up and get an accurated cost for delivery and mail you all individually, some are taking delivery of one mount, others several and one is picking up so no point in making a general post as someone is bound to get it mixed up.
Juniorsenior, I have got your revised delivery details, all 3 mounts to be sent to Rico and he has given me his details.

schweet, will be good to see what you think of them and any siginificant difference
I imagine so, as the dog bone mount alone gets very good reports, so the engine mounts so change the feel of the car and acceleration a fair bit :)
I've already got a poly bush in my DBM, I've got the track density DBM and street DBM coming.
Will try them all with Engine mounts fitted and give you all a write up in the Leon MK1 section as all the guys have Leons in this GB, OH apart from our poor Skoda cousins in the Octy's;)
LOL
Only joking Dave and Jay:)

Well guys as i said mounts arrived and had a chance to work with them on saturday.
It was a very fustrating day, not due to the mounts, this I will cover in the Leon MK1 section.
Small report.
Fitted transimssion mount, feels stiffer than the OEM one and transmission doesn't move when starting off, so all good so far.
I'll write a report on all of the fitting in the MK1 section but will be tomorrow/wednesday as I have bigger fish to fry today[:@]:censored:

I got the mounts through, thanks dssr, didn't realise they were so big!! Especially the DB one.. Not fitting them for a while though. Going to treat the car at her 50k service with a sprinkling of new bits.
Any one got any reviews yet??

How does it perform?? Though I suppose difficult to tell if you have only fitted one.
I only have one fitted, I have a leaking sump 2 ARB bushes that need a changed and a gearbox that is crumbling away, forgive me for not taking the car round the Ring to see how it handles for you:P
