I am intending on upgrading my brakes after christmas on my ibiza cupra, but what kind should I go for? What is the best make to go for, i.e. Tarox, black diamond, ebc...etc. Also would it be advisable to updgrade both the front and back at the same time, or would it be okay to do the front first and at a later date upgrade the back?
Also has anybody had any experience with Billet 4 brake upgrades. I saw one of their kits for sale for £600 + VAT. This included 4 pot callipers, 300mm disks, uprated pads and all other parts required. The only problem is that I dont know of anybody who has used this kit before.

gadge, if I was you I wouldnt bother upgrading the backs as they are really only there to stabilise the rear when braking, making them bigger will not really have any effect. You should either save that money for something else or use it towards getting a good brembo setup for up front, not overly knowledgeable on brakes though most people on here seem to like tarox discs and pagid pads, again lads correct me if im wrong.:D

I am not sure... but...
I would check to see if larger discs will fit without changing your wheels..
I believe that fitting larger discs and fitting different calipers may well require buying new wheels other than the standard ones..
Not 100% on this, but I have sneaky suspicion that it may be the case..
I haven't heard of anyone using the EBC grooved/drilled discs, only the pads (I have pads), and have heard the Tarox discs are pretty good.
I expect that the most common recommendation may well be Tarox Discs and Pagid Fast Road Pads... not sure about the calipers although I would love a set of AP's or Brembo's.. other things to spend my money on though at the moment.. xmas init.. :s

Cheers for the help lads. The next question is will I be able to fit bigger disks whilst still retaining the standard 16" cupra wheels? If so what is the biggest I can go without needing to change my wheels?

From what I've heard the Cupra R brakes at 305mm Brembo with 7x16 wheels is Ok.
Flapper is your man for prices on this.

I have 16 x 7" compomotive MO wheels on my car (ET 35 I think but not 100% off the top of my head) with 310 x 32mm wilwood disks / superlight calipers (4 bolt hubs) They fit no problem still with a little clearance so I would assume a 300mm disc would be a breeze - I think this kit costs about £700 - Rally Sport in CCC have them as do HiSpec. The std master cylinder works ok with these calipers but the pedal travel is increased a touch - would be better with a slightly bigger master cylinder to be 100%. Are currently looking at adjustable bias system that works with the brake servo still in place that has AP master cylinders so this can be played about with and the F/R bias can be easily adjusted. All this means junking the ABS but I dont use it anyhow. Would like to know if anyone knows if differnt bore std-type master cylinders are available for the Ibiza......................

A word of warning to people looking to go for big brakes on an Ibiza 20vT - there's not a huge amount of clearance inside the standard wheels as Dave Arthurton found out when he had an AP conversion done on his. It wasn't all bad though, as the wheels look kinda tasty on my mk2 8v :D
Not all 16's will have the same internal diameter - the AP conversion works fine on a mk2 16v on standard 16" rims but not on a mk3 turbo with standard 16" rims. Go figure... Anyways, I reckon you might get a bit bigger disc to fit inside the wheels but when measuring up don't forget that there'll be a caliper wrapped around the outside (and spacers to find if you go for bigger discs with standard calipers). You might just be better to go for either a drilled or grooved (or both) disc in standard size which will definitely fit.

I got VW Corrado G60 Discs on mi Ibiza, they are grooved and holed. Work Great with Carbon/Kevlar Pads.
I also have SEAT Sport Calipers but they use the same pads and disks as the original.
Oh, and dont bother with the rear, it wond change anaything.
