mrs jase has just got back and reports of a problem.
the starter isn't turning off properly when the engine fires up and the horrible grating noise can be heard for a second or so,but goes away completely when the engine is running.
i presume from this that its sticking, any ideas' or tips to unstick the bugger?or in true jason style should i be looking at a replacement?or will rusty's cover as i've only had it a while?
also since i've had the cordoba i have noticed it takes more to get it to turn over and fire than the ibiza ever did,i thought this was due to being a bigger engine with air con,so would take more effort to turn over.

sorry to go on  in advance

Sorry Jase haven't got a clue but if it's working then surely it ain't broke and shouldn't need replacement?

Did you get one of those 1 year SEAT warranty's for 2nd hand car's? Should be covered under that.

jase, the 16v was starting inside 2 secs of turning over easy, after getting the head skimmed it takes a little longer but i was playing with the idea of getting a stronger motor from, say, the tdi range as id like to think it'd be stronger.
btw jase, put the engine tray cover back on, use only enough nuts to secure it, reason is that the power steering belt slips a little making sharp coners a bugger as the steering goes solid.
it doesnt do any lasting damage but at the time you think..FOOOOOOOOOOOK!!

Jase,

I seem to remember having this problem on an old car once. The solenoid kicks in and throws the arm out and engages the starter gear with the flywheel. If it doesn't properly retract, that's when you get the nice grating noise. Could be a duff solenoid or you might need to replace the whole starter unit.
