Right then over the weekend Sauls MK3 motor got the full VanillaICE treatment and now has banging tooonsss....
Here's a few points to help everyone else. ( But VanillaICE may still have a few bookings yet to be filled..... )
DO NOT : Use Autoleads speaker to RCA convertors... They are pants.. After wiring everything up, the alternator noise was so bad we ditched it and use the high level inputs on the amp..
Before beginning undo the two screws that hold the bottom of the passenger side dash on ( right underneath ) and remove the glovebox to help later.
First off power.
To get the power wire through the bulkhead undo the two screws that hold the coolant fluid bottle down and move it CAREFULLY out of the way a bit. Behind it is a rubber grommit that goes through the firewall. By pushing a coat hanger through here you can tape the power cable to it and bring it into the engine bay. Then remove bits of trim along the car to feed the wire down the passenger side.
Now power is done you need the remote lead.
Follow the instructions on Flappers sheet on removing the Radio unit. Two screws at the bottom and then the facia pops off ( carefull of the ribbon cable ) Then four screws and the radio can be removed. Now this is where the glovebox removal comes in because you need to coax the cables to remove the unit.
Now unplug the bottom of the three connectors and feed it back into the glovebox area. Remove a longish amount of the tape round the wiring and then tap into the black wire ( I think it was the third wire from left on top row of wires on plug ) You want to join a 5-6m length of remote wire to this. Now tape the wires back up nice and securely and feed back into radio aperature. Now fit radio back and check everything works....
Now all you need to do is feed the remote wire to the back of the car and feed any speaker cable from the back to each door if you're powering components. One thing to note is feed the speaker cable down the centre or drivers side away from the power cable...
For an earth point on the passenger side of the boot near the rear lights you'll see an earthing point just under the edge of the carpet. Dont try to just use the light fixings like I did to start with.... ( That gave us 20 mins of head scratching.. )
That's it all done. It couldn't be easier. Oh and if you want a full system I'd recommend Kenwood comps up front an RF 3412 sub and an RF 400.4 amp to run it all. I tell you what, I want a hatchback now to let the bass in. I could feel all the hairs on my head swaying to the beat...
If you only want a sub then remember I've still got an MTX mono block for sale..... ( plug plug... )
