I've just brought a RF sub, amp and box kit, all I need now is the RCA cables to go from my headunit to the amp, anyone know if a 3m cable will be long enough?? Any tips on how to stop the box moving?

Cheers

You've come to the right place my lad.....:D

3m isn't long enough no, you'll need 5m to be safe. You might just manage with 3m but you wouldn't have any play at either end and it would be a nightmare. Best be safe and spend the extra couple of quid.

The boxes usually don't move around if the bottom is carpeted but if you want to fix it down a lot of people use bungy cords. It's not so much of a problem in a Cordoba because the seats have to fail for the box to come through but Ibizas have a cardboard shelf which the box can punch it's way through in an accident ad decapitate the occupents...

Ta mate, much appreciated.

I managed to get a 5m RCA lead at lunch, i got a "lightening audio" amp wiring kit with other bits, im guessing the power lead supplied with be too short tho.

Still not too sure on the wiring tho...it ok to run the power down the passenger side and the RCA's down the centre of the car? This is the part that worries me, dont wanna rip the carpet up and not be able to get it down properly :)

Dont spose you got any photos of where to run the cables or the like?

Let me know

You might find there's enough. If you don't think there is then take the wiring kit back and get your wires from maplins. You can order any length you like from them.

I didn't take any photos sorry. But don't worry about putting the carpet back it's dead easy. You'd have to be very heavy handed to stretch it out of shape. Just take the passenger seat out and the trim allong the passenger side and you can lift it up.

The seats come out really easily. Remove the plastic cover over the seat runners. Undo the little bolt under the front of the seat. Then slide the seat back until it comes out of the runners and out she comes.... The only hard part about getting them back in is that you need to get the handle in the latch ( you'll know what I mean when you see it.. ) it helps to have another pair of hands about for that but you can do it on your own.

Right Pete, its all wired in and was running perfectly for about 2hrs, now all of a sudden the sub seems to work on and off, if it stops working I have to get out of the car, open the boot and give the sub I sharp tap, this tends to get it working again for a bit. If i apply pressure to the cone I cant feel / hear it working, sometimes if I remove the pressure it does sweet FA.

All the connections are fine.

Have I been sold a dodgy RF sub?

Let me know.

Cheers

Yea connections are fine mate, think the sub itself maybe shagged :(

make sure the crossover on the sub is set to lowpass, what sub is it, the model no. I'll check it out, it could be an X Card configuration that needs altering.

Also its possible the internals of the RCA lead could of broke, try fiddling with them at both ends, on the back of the headunit too.

Its unlikely the sub is broken, its very rare, but not impossible, they are manufactured very well.

Without seeing it, and being able to mess its a difficult thing to diagnose, i can only point out the obvious.

I'll have a word with my bro in law, to see if he suggests anything you can check.

Sorry Martyn I didn't see this yesterday, Glad it's sorted though. Sounds like it was a dodgy connection in the internal sub wiring somewhere. Hey these things are all mass produced and it happens.

So have you decided you need more power yet....  I only last a couple of days before I plan the next upgrade.....

At the mo I think its plent enough power, it gives the missus a headache before I've even managed to crank it up ;) She does think it sounds good tho

Btw, its fecking meaty even on the following settings...
Bass Eq = 0

Amp Bass = Flat

Havent really played with the above yet, wanna bed the fecker in first :)

Already got the next system planned......

3 JL audio Subs.. A Genesis mini block ( 650wrms ) to run them and a Dual Mono ( 2 x 150wrms ) to run the fronts, and the Compact Four to run the rears ( 2 x 50wrms ) and centre channel ( 150wrms )...

I think that'll do me for another week or so.... Problem is that lot will hit the wallet for about £1200. Ouch....
